I think Little Mac have the better chance to be playable but also think Isaac and Tingle got a good shot to.

No friggin' surprise this thread's got crappy standards if we all just treat it like it's fine to have low expectations.

ANYWAY:

Smash Bros. 7 is coming out and Sakurai is no longer the director of the series.

Press releases confirmed that the roster will feature a heavier number of fan requests.

That said, the new directors have an especial focus on balance, followed by marketing potential and notoriety as secondary qualities in characters.

Who gets in?

I honestly don't think we can say. Even if you count Smash 3DS as "Smash 5", Smash 7 is still 2 games away. Given the timeframe of release of the seires, that's probably at least a decade from now. I don't think ANYONE here can honestly predict who will or won't be popular at that point in time.

Edit: that said, if it doesn't happen this time around, I'd predict that Bandana Dee will have become a very strong contender by that point.

I thought only Melee cut characters. But I guess I'd be fine with ATs too. I'd get Nintendog and Starfy and Samurai Goroh and Waluigi and Tingle and Mr. Resetti and others.

Possibly. If Pichu ended up as a DLC character then I'd be near certain he would be listening to the fans when it comes to DLC characters.

If a character is an Assist Trophy, I don't really see why Sakurai would change his mind and make a playable version of the character in addition to the Assist Trophy version, unless fan demand for certain characters is absolutely massive.

You mean Brawl ATs? It's possible. Little Mac would be a huge contender regardless of his AT status. Plus, I think that the characters that Sakurai implemented as ATs might give a good window into characters who "didn't quite make it" into the final rounds of roster consideration.

Not likely, unless they get REALLY popular. Considering that would not only require making the character's a moveset, but also would likely require creating another AT to replace them.

don't know about that, but the one chatcter that feels perfect for DLC is:

but on the subject, I doubt any assist trophy's will turn into DLC characters, I imagine it would be the characters considered during development, that were either scrapped and/or ignored, especially if they had data on them

If DLC characters happen, I doubt they'll be newcomers with unique movesets, as those would be prioritized for the initial release. Probably just the cut Melee characters and possibly "Forbidden 7"-esque characters that didn't make it in. Oh, and if any Brawl veterans have to be cut due to time constraints, they'd be good candidates for DLC as well.

Assist trophies wouldn't be converted into characters even for DLC - their role as assist trophies will have been firmly established for the game, and having them be both an item and a playable character wouldn't really work well.

If they decide to go with just an Awakening rep and Marth, I'm sure the Ike DLC would sell like hotcakes.

That's a very un-Sakurai thing to do, though.

I can realistically see Wario get revealed next week.

A Wario reveal is very well possible, and I'd be glad to see him revealed, but in term of preferance I'd still much rather see a reveal of one of the original 12. (Captain Falcon or Jigglypuff in particular)

I think DLC would just mainly be used to add stages and costumes. Character DLC probably wouldn't feature any newcomers, just Melee and Brawl veterans that didn't make the cut into the initial game.
