A strong answer is not exactly possible, considering we're playing with vague statements here. I will say that the inclusion is fairly borderline, could happen or it couldn't, it all depends on if the developers think it's worth the inclusion. I suppose form a design standpoint introducing a character like Takamaru is a bit of a gamble considering the lack of exposure, you can either create the best thing ever or flounder on your own words. But I will probably say that because of more recent exposure of The Mysterious Murasame Castle and statements from Word of God, I do have some confidence.

I disagree entirely. Most people predicted Pit and he got in. Is there really any Retro character more deserving AND unique? No there is not so Sakurai has every reason to put him in and want him in.

No, because all the retro characters are pretty much in the same boat in terms of deservedness. The same could be said for uniqueness. I don't see how Takamaru is any more deserving than other retro characters such as Mach Rider and Lip.

Getting our hopes up just sets us up for disappointment. I'm indifferent about Takamaru. If I had to pick a Retro, I'd pick him, but by no means do I expect him.

First off, one doesn't need to be playable to have its series revived (see Saki)
Second off, that is not always guaranteed to happen (see Ice Climbers)
(Though I really would like to see For Frogs The Bell Tolls revived. It was a really fun game)

If you're going to go around spewing this "deserving AND unique" line, how about you try to back it up? Especially the 'deserving' part, because I'm failing to see what Takamaru has done in order to be more deserving than the other retro candidates.

Lip is certainly just as deserving as Takamaru, and she could even be more unique than him as well.

Well...
He has appeared in Nintendo Land. Not much. But it does help his reveal seem less "out of the blue." Plus he's just a popular character with a lot of potential for a revival ala Uprising. Lip has some of that too, but not to the degree that Takamaru has IMO. I think a samurai would be accepted more positively than a magical girl (as cute as she is). Sakurai also commented during Melee interviews that if we got another MMC game he'd put Takamaru in. (This hasn't happened, but he's appeared a lot, so maybe that counts?)
Although I agree with you. Saturn needs to back up his statements with logic of some sort. The "seriously?" comes off as condescending and doesn't actually help his case.

Then I guess Stan Marsh being more deserving than Mario is opinion too.

I think both can create appeal, it's just got to have the right chemistry to pull it off. I suppose the main argument I'm getting at is that interest comes from the impressions, if you can create a good first impression you can win over others.

I usually don't back things up at first when I assume it's common sense. But, Apparently it's not.

Lip has more games in her own series (It's true. Look it up!) Not to mention her games are referenced more than MMC.
Those are facts.
How we interpret how that information affects things is opinion.

There's the problem I have when it comes to people discussing retro characters. A lot of people only seem to be looking into the future in terms of the character ("What can appearing in Smash do for this character?"), instead of looking at what the character could potentially bring to the game. It's something I notice comes up quite a lot, because most of the Takamaru support I see are just people who want him in Smash in hopes that his series will get a revival because of it.
As for the mini-game in Nintendo Land...okay, you got me there. I kind of forgot about that one. My bad. I guess he does have a bit more going for him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't show up.

I honestly only think Takamaru is the most likely because his series is the sister series to LoZ that KI was/is to Metroid.
In all honesty, though, I like Lip a bit more. I just think it's more likely that we're getting Takamaru.

I've never played Dillon's game, but I've read a bit about it, and Dillon seems like he could be a fun character to play.
