Rock Band 3 is, obviously, the new game in the Rock Band 3 series.

It will also have real guitars and a keyboard controller.

The ones that caught my eye.

I wonder how well the keyboard will work, I hope my not-so-epic piano skillz magically transfer over.

I'm passing on this one. I only bought Rock Band 2 instruments because the day before my guitar and mic died. I really don't want a keyboard, and I can imagine this being over $200 since Rock Band 2 was $180. Add in the fact that I have a PS3 Slim and only two ports (I have a hub, but not the point), and I really don't have the room for it.

I might get the keyboard, but for now I'm just going to get the disk.

I added some hands-on impressions, an interview, and pricing details to the OP.

Edit: By the way, the "real" guitar controller shouldn't be that expensive; it's a fender squier, which is a decently cheap guitar.

Anyone willing to bet that we will see a certain massive Journey hit with the new keyboard?
It's already DLC.

Yeah didn't Rock Band Green Day JUST come out?
That was just a side game. They've been working on this one since 2 came out, lol.

They've only made 3 Rock Band games in the last two years. Compare that to 6 last year from Guitar Hero.

Op updated with Pro Mode hands-on stuff.

You can't really say it like that though.

If you call Green Day a "side game" then so is most of what was released for Guitar Hero. Gotta be fair.

2009 Releases for Rock Band:
- Rock Band Beatles
- Lego Rock Band
- Rock Band Unplugged
- Rock Band Mobile
- Rock Band for iOS
- Country Song Pack
- Metal Song Pack
- Classic Rock Song Pack

2009 Releases for Guitar Hero:
- Guitar Hero 5
- Guitar Hero: Metallica
- Guitar Hero: Van Halen
- Guitar Hero Smash Hits (expansion)
- Band Hero (expansion)
- Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits
- Guitar Hero 5 Mobile
- Guitar Hero Arcade

Guitar Hero had 7 releases last year (omitting the Smash Hits song pack) with Rock Band having 5 releases (omitting their song packs. Take out the phone and arcade versions for both and Guitar Hero has had 5 releases to 3 releases.

Really, it's about the same. Metallica and Van Halen were mild in comparison to the treatment that Rock Band Beatles had (full instruments, whole new UI, new manner of singing), and Lego Rock Band was their answer to Band Hero.

I grew tired of Guitar Hero once I played World Tour and realized the songs on Rock Band were better charted, but to say one development is better than the other is just an unfair comparison.

You have a great point, CK.

I personally prefer Rock Band because of the charting and great DLC.

New songs were revealed during Comic-Con today!
* "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears
* "Rock Lobster" by The B-52s
* "Foolin'" by Def Leppard
* "Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson
* "Hey Man, Nice Shot" by Filter
* "Cold as Ice" by Foreigner

I'll update the OP songlist later. I would do it now, but I don't have time to look up what decades each of these songs are from.

The full set list has been revealed! It actually looks really good despite the songs that were once on Guitar Hero.

I'm sooooooo going to dominate Beast and the Harlot on Pro mode guitar; I can play most of it irl. :3

Beast and the Harlot is sooooo overused. Seriously.
Ok then.

Crappy cover version on GH2? Check.
Crappily charted version with super-loose and easy timing on Guitar Hero: Smash Hits? Check.

A better charted version (on all parts, btw) that is played with Rock Band timing? AND pro mode (real guitar)? **** yes.

Considering that I ****ing hate the hammer-ons on Rock Band, I guess I'll give it a shot.

Crappy? Really? Most people seemed to like Smash Hits. As for easy, I guess you must be FCing it every time to think that :) Not sure how you've come to the conclusion that the RB chart is guaranteed to be better though since it's not even out yet. I mean, it certainly could be but at the same time Harmonix can sometimes be pretty inconsistent in their charting so really if I were a betting man, I'd say the best odds are for it to be very similarly charted, small chance of it being "better" and an equally small chance of it being "worse".

Now more on-topic, this setlist really looks like the worst setlist out of any main RB/GH game to me :( None of the songs really stand out to me to be great on guitar/bass other than ones that I've already played. GH:WoR's setlist just looks way more fun. Though, not being quite as good at drums, this'll probably be awesome for me to play on them and hopefully good DLC will come out soon after it gets released.... that and maybe I'll be able to scrounge up some money for a keyboard/pro guitar cause those seem like a lot of fun

Well, I actually do usually FC it on Smash Hits. :p

I just generally prefer RB's timing and charts. It's just personal preference, tbh.

They look like fun to me, and they all look like they'll be a blast to play with the pro guitar. I play all the instruments, so that may be why I like the list so much.

Du Hast would be a blast to sing, but only if it's the Volkerball version, which it won't be. Rammstein live is seriously a whole other animal/band.

I'd like to get this game, but I really don't like rhythm games anymore. I play them maybe a month, then my friends move on to a new game, and the game is lame solo.

I've been waiting for them to put more songs from GH1 into RB simply because Harmonix made GH1. It was a song list I fell in love with, and since owning RB, craved those songs within RB.

Also, Queen rocks my socks. I've been wanting Bohemian Rhapsody for forever and a half.

I'm terribly saddened by the lack of Led Zeppelin... still. :(

Rock Band 3 details: RB2 export confirmed for all consoles, 'pro' mode DLC may be more expensive

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/06/rock-band-3-details-rb2-export-confirmed-for-all-consoles-pro/
Awesome! I was planning on switching to ps3 for song exporting, so this is great news. ^_^

Hands-on impressions with the guitar trainer mode and the actual guitar. Apparently, the Squier is the way to go.

So somebody told me that if you had a real guitar you could just jack it in the console and play.

Any possible way this could be true or what? Because that'd save me a ****load of money on a controller

Oh god.

I might have to get the game, though only the game. I'm fine with Rock Band 2 equipment.
