ROB Boards are utterly useless for this one. I've talked to some high level ROB players and I've gotten good advice but I want to hear from the Marth Boards.

This is one of the most "even" matchups in the game according to some people on the ROB boards and I want to hear what Marths think.

What stages does Marth like in this matchup?
How does Marth avoid being camped?
How does Marth rack up damage, and how does he finish?
How does Marth deal with moves like ROBs Ftilt and Bair that can be used to stop the Marth from advancing?
How does Marth edgeguard here?

Some points of interest.

there's a match up thread for this stuff so don't take offense when you thread gets locked.

It is a very even match.

Marth has a lot of kill moves Nair Bair fair Utilt. Should be effective.

Dash to sheild to approach don't let him charge gyros.

Marth racks up damage by baiting punishing and Danicing blades.

Ftilt vs ftilt should clash. ROB bair is pretty slow start up and he's at a disadvatage when someone is behind him. So if they are using bairs to stop your are you should be able to capitialize.

I don't think rob can air dodge out of his up B so keep that in mind try to come from underneth since he is weak from their and bair.

^That. Actually Rob can airdodge if he does an attack out of his up b (usually fair). The only thing that makes this match annoying is that rob outranges marth with a lot of his moves. Getting rob off the ground helps a lot if you condition your opponent to nair you if u jump at them and you counter, or if you bait an airdodge and nair/fair/uair them. Getting Rob low offstage is key as it leads to easier gimp/ kills if u make his fuel run out by keeping off the ground.

This matchup is one of the more annoying ones for Marth in my opinion. Rob has good range, pretty powerful smash attacks, and good spacing techniques. His spot dodge is the most **** IMO, though. He can spot dodge to Dsmash really easily to take control of the stage and possibly juggle the opponent. I usually DB or Dtilt when he spot dodges though, at least, to my best ability. When he's off the stage, I try as hard as I can to punish his recovery. Although he's not always vulnerable, it is no doubt easier to hit him when he's floating back. I think this is slightly in robs favor though. He keeps Marth away pretty well.

ROB has the advantage on Marth in the over all match up due to ROB's better selection of legal stages that allow for much more extreme camping from ROB that Marth cannot give reliable answers to.

And by camping I also mean just letting the stage kill you while ROB uses unlimited fuel works to lol at Marth's dolphin slash.

Marth vs ROB on any neutral isn't too bad. ROB abusing fuel if he's above the stage isn't a good idea, ROB has a hard time getting back on the stage if he grabs the ledge. Marth's juggling racks up easy damage; and what goes up must come down so to speak.

The biggest issue within neutrals for Marth is getting past the unbelievably awesome ftilt ROB has. Marth's speed allows him to cover lost ground from gyros/lasers that hit his shield. Also ROB using the gyro as a glide toss approach is mostly shut down by a simple dolphin slash.

Marth can get gimped more easily by ROB in most situations as well. The trade off here is how Marth can just rack up so much damage if Marth can get ROB into the air.

While there's some decent discussion in this thread we do have match up threads for these situations...

uair allot, when you land from fair, jab to shut down his punishments.

Dont mindlessly run in to fair, his ftilt works like DK's in that it shuts down air approach. Dont dash shield him as you will probably misstime the shield and take damage, just walk towards him if you want to powershield his stuff.

mostly uair though.
