Its not hard to grab the ledge with fox from facing the wrong direction.

Or do you mean make sure that you turn around so that you can fall and grab the ledge?

i meant starting your up B facing to the left, then going straight up but facing right

and yea i know how to do the fastfall tricks to grab from behind, pretty tight

Sadly this doesn't work with Fox or Falco.

I do know that they can turn around by touching a wall or something though

Yes, they turn around when going straight up if you touch a wall. It's automatic

A math major friend of mine (Ed) calculated the "radius" of the octagon around the control stick.

I'm assuming that this might limit the maximum UpB length when it is not towards a corner notch.
