Recorded videos from capture card dont work with video editing software. on WMM

They turn into .mpg files and they work on windows media player but when I put them into windows movie maker they are just audio files I tried also putting them into camtasia same results? if anyone has any ideas how to fix then it would help. Intervideo WinDVR 5 wont let me save it as anything else either.

This happens to me too. I have downloaded a few codecs, which don't seem to help.

you could try using virtualdub to convert it into a different type of file first if you have the codecs to do it.

What capture card & format are you using?

The more specific, the better.

Windows Movie Maker as far as I know isn't very compatible with mpeg files

as soon as I record anything it saves it to a .mpg file and when I import to WMM it the video doesn't show up.

I also tried to edit in Camtasia same results how could I convert or get it to work with what I have

Try converting them into wmv. That's what I do.
