Kojima finally left Konami earlier this month. That may not seem like a big deal, but Snake's inclusion in Brawl was nothing more than a personal favor to Kojima, and Sakurai may not feel obligated to bring Snake back. Heck, we still don't even know the true reason why Snake was cut in the first place.

I won't beat the dead Konami horse even further. I'll admit I'm being a tad generous with Snake's chance rating this time partially due to his popularity. I also think he realistically has a better chance than most of the other non-Capcom/Sega/Namco third party characters we've rated. (To list some examples, I can't imagine someone like Crash, Spyro, Sora, Bubsy, or any Square Enix character not from Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest getting in before him.) That said, I've long accepted that he's not coming back.

Want: 75%

Snake's cool and I'm not opposed to him returning, but if there could only exist one Konami character on the roster, I'd honestly prefer someone from a series with a much more immense history with Nintendo, that character being Simon Belmont from Castlevania. Not that his chances are any higher, though.

This seemed to be a deal between friends than one between Nintendo and Konami. He could return on pure demand, but I think if he was planned to at all, it would have been in the retail version of Smash 4.

Wolf: 70%
He has a lot of assets salvageable from Brawl and people want him back.

Inklings: 70%
Definitely a strike-while-the-iron's-hot character. There's no telling if Splatoon will continue to enjoy success into Smash 5's time, so their ideal chance at Smash is now.

I'd feel pretty meh if they got in now, save them for smash 5. A Splatoon stage with music is fine however.

WOLF

Chance: 90% -- Nintendo would be stupid not to. He has everything going for him. Veteran, highly requested, easy to bring back, Star Fox Zero cross-promotion potential, and so much more. His chances are so high because he has about a 40% chance for being pre-ballot and 50% if he end up being post-ballot.

Want: 100% -- As a Star Fox fan and a Wolf main, this is a given.

SNAKE

Chance: 10% -- With all the crap going on with Kojima and Konami, it'd take a miracle to get him back. Which is unfortunate, because his chances would be a lot higher if it weren't for that.

Want: 80% -- Snake was fun in Brawl, but the reason his want is lower for me is because I don't want too many 3rd Party characters on the roster. Four is stretching it, and five would be my absolute maximum. If he gets in, sweet, if he doesn't, well, it's sad but I'd be alright.

INKLINGS

Chance: 50% -- There are a few things that I question about them, as I fear that they share the same fate as the Ice Climbers. My reasoning is because of the whole 'claiming turf' ordeal. Could the 3DS handle four Inklings spraying four different colors of ink on stages that change form, have moving platforms, have stage hazards, etc? They could just make it so that ink doesn't stick to the ground (Like shooting glass in Splatoon), or they could make it only a visual thing that is exclusive to Wii U. If they go with the latter, that could the Wii U handle eight Inklings spraying eight different colors on ink on huge stages? It's a wierd situation that I guess I just don't have too much knowledge on.

Want: 50% -- They're my fifth most wanted (Not counting characters with pre-defined roles) and I think they've earned it, even with how young they are. That's mostly because they belong to Nintendo, though.

The only thing holding him back is if they do exclusively new fighters for the rest of DLC--but in terms of Veterans, he is next up

Snake:
Chance: 70% Want: 100%
Not sure what's going with him. But I think it's possible that if enough demand was built, they could work around whatever issues they had with him to bring him back. With how much he was advertised in Brawl, I'm surprised there's a question of him.

Inklings:
Chance: 80% Want: 50%
I'm kinda conflicted with their chances, really--trying to put myself in Sakurai's shoes, they show a good deal of uniqueness--turning into squids and using ink they splatter on the ground to travel. But why weren't they put in to begin with? I guess Sakurai wouldn't want to risk putting in an unknown IP. Then again, he put trophies in for them--which are another thing that baffles me. In a similar vein to K. Rool's costume, the Inklings have gotten both a trophy and a costume--so while this could be a tease, it could also say "this is all you get". I could see them going the way of Animal Crossing in Brawl--we get a cool level but no character. Now, if they were confirmed, there is indeed a possibility I could fall in love with their play style as Smash Fighters.

Chances: 70% He's more likely than not, but I don't think he's a guarantee either. Still, he's far and away the most likely character.

Want: 95% Awoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

:snake:
Chances: 6% Konami is in shatters, but the main problem is that his friend Kojima was basically fired by Konami, I have severe doubts Sakurai will let Konami make money off Snake as is.

Want: 20% Don't get me wrong I love Snake, but I'm not sure how'd I feel about him being in Smash after Kojima left Konami, it would be like a big slap to his honor.

Chances: 20% They are a bit new to the gaming scene as a whole, but they've left a big trail in their wake already, I think they are possible, but unlikely since both AC and Pikmin had to wait many years their slot. To top it all off, I also think Nintendo is going to focus on satisfying older series/fanbases for the ballot, so I don't they are really that big a contender.

Want: 10% I'd tolerate them, I have no attachment to them, nor do i hate them. It will be very annoying having them in game though since my brother will be nagging non-stop since he's a full on hater of them (their art style is very off putting to him), but then again, it might be fun to annoy him as them :smirk:.

Wolf chances: 98.8%
Same as my previous score which is a 0.2% increase from the score just before due to the discovery of the seventh slot. Anyway, it's hard for me to imagine Wolf not coming back. His inclusion makes a lot of sense regardless of Star Fox Zero, which only adds a new layer on why him being excluded again would be baffling. Then again I wouldn't say he's guaranteed, but I would be shocked if he wasn't revealed in the upcoming Nintendo Direct which was confirmed to be revealed before the end of the year, probably early-mid November.

Wolf want: 88%
While I'm not exactly Wolf's biggest fan, there's something wrong in the idea of him not coming back. I also remember seeing Crazy Hand for the first time thanks to Wolf when my brother played as him.

-----

Snake chances: 18%
To be honest, some part of me believes Sakurai just didn't intend to bring Snake back in Smash 4, due to him being possibly supposed to be a one-time special guest requested by a friend. His inclusion was very challenging in the first place, and with Konami having zero involvement in Smash 4 I'd expect Sakurai to add other characters who would as such be easier to implement from an administrative standpoint such as characters owned by Nintendo or by another third-party already involved in Smash 4 (which already happened with Ryu).

Snake want: 36%
Not gonna lie, Snake added some very unique flavor to Brawl and he's a blast to play as, but I'm not sure I want him back. There's just part of me who believes he's not really Smash regular material, and that he works better as a one-time special guest. But as I already said he's very fun to play as, so I guess I wouldn't mind his come back too much.
Overall I'll give him a 40% want score minus 4% because if he comes back I don't expect him to have his codecs back from Brawl unless if he's the very last DLC character (so his codecs can include all characters even the rest of the DLC) and still I'm doubting it. While I never activated them when I played Brawl, I read them on SmashWiki and they really have more personality to them compared to Palutena's Guidance. It really helped him to stand out as a special guest star whose appeal was based on being so much different from the Nintendo characters, and it'd be a shame to lose them.

-----

Inkling chances: 44%
Yeah I know I gave them about 7% chances last time, and no it's not because of these rumors which I'd say are pretty safe to deem as fake. Then why a such increase? While the rumors ultimately proven to be false they at least made me reconsider their actual chances: are technical issues such a big deal after all? I've thought about it and I'll copy and paste what I've said earlier in the character discussion thread before reposting it in the Inkling thread:
[...] at least those rumors made me reconsider the chances of Inklings which I used to consider very low because they would potentially be a technical hell (because you now, the paint), but actually when I think about it there's a potential simple solution to deal with it while doing the Inklings justice by still giving them a turf war based moveset: to limit the amount of RAM the paint takes and thus prevent framerate drops, instead program them like puddles with fixed size. I'm not sure I can clearly explain it with words, so I'll instead use pictures:

Let's suppose the orange thing in the pic above is Inkling's paint. It would take a lot of the game's RAM if it must remember each smallest unit possible where's there's ink, isn't it? But now, let's take a look at this:

To save RAM, the game's memory only has to remember one single spot for each puddle before giving all the remaining work to the engines. This frees place in the RAM where every item location is stored (it only has to remember one spot rather than several dozens) and gives the physics and graphic engines less work to do by making them work on only one item. For example, in the second picture, those orange dots represent where the "ink puddle" items are stored in the game's memory, and in the first picture, how the physics and graphic engines interpret these dots.

To make sure the game may support those puddles without FPS drops, there would be a limit to them, for example, five by Inkling. Those puddles I suppose could definitely be able to be handled by the Wii U, maybe it'd be a little harder for the 3DS but I don't think it'd be undoable.
tl;dr to limit the amount of RAM the paint would use, instead program it as puddles and limit the amount of them on the battlefield for each Inkling.

I don't think the Mii costume means much, it was announced even before the release of Splatoon itself and made available after the official release of Splatoon, which means it was only done for cheap and non-intrusive promotion at the time especially with the trophy given alongside the costume. I don't believe those were added with any Inkling disapproval in mind. If new DLC stages can use musics already used by previous DLC stages, then I believe a Mii costume is not a big deal. There's just the fact that the Mii costume are very faithful to the Inkling design, which may possibly be the biggest problem, but I don't think it'd be a deal breaker. Overall I think Inklings are respectably likely candidates who could go either way.

Inkling want: 42%
While I'd say the Inklings have their merits well established at this point, part of me would doesn't really want to see a DLC character literally younger than Smash 4 itself. If anything I'd say they should be the very last DLC characters. If they're not Smash 4 DLC then they're perfect for Smash 5.

There are other characters who deserves to be in the roster before Inklings like K Rool and Dixie. If Inklings get in, then cool, it keeps the roster fresh. Just like to see some classic characters who deserved the shot a long time ago make it

By far the most requested character and cut veteran worldwide. He will be appearing in Star Fox Zero, which I think helps him a lot. Also, because he is a veteran, he would be a bit easier to make since he has an established moveset. I will go 50/50 because I can see him make it in and yet I can see him not return at all; I am unsure if Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, and Ryu were the only planned characters and the rest will be determined from the ballot.

Honestly call me crazy, but I think that they have a shot for a few good reasons.
1. Splatoon is a game that went gold. It sold a lot of units for Nintendo and was a pretty good seller for the system when the game first released. I am pretty sure this franchise has a future.
2. The Inklings are pretty requested, both from a combination for Splatoon's hype and the fact that they could be unique in battle.
3. They already have content in Smash in the form of costumes and a trophy to boot. The series already has representation.
I can't count them out just yet, even though they already have a trophy and a costume. I think that their chances are 50/50 at this point; it really comes down to if Sakurai and Nintendo want to push for their inclusion and promote the game now. Now is better than later, where Splatoon might be irrelevant in a few years (though I doubt that).
Provided if the Inklings and Splatoon are still relevant in a few years, then they might become the next Diddy Kong or Little Mac of the next game.
Actually, in the investor's meeting yesterday, the Inklings were a part of a picture alongside other Nintendo characters. I think it's clear that they have a future with Nintendo, especially when Splatoon has now sold over 2.4 million copies (which, for a Wii U game, is impressive).
Want: 10%
Mainly for the fans. I am not interested in Splatoon nor the Inklings.

Snake
Chance:
1%

Copy and paste:
I am not confident in Snake's return at all. Yes he is a veteran and thus will get a lot of votes worldwide and has a moveset already, but I think he has four key factors working against him.
1. He is more loyal to other consoles than with Nintendo. Judging from the history of the MGS series, it has been on other consoles more than recent consoles. Sure, it was on a lot of Nintendo's earlier consoles, but the MGS series has been on the competition's consoles more. All Nintendo gets from MGS are remakes that were originally on Sony consoles; Nintendo is not going to get the new MGS games.
2. The E10 rating could be seen as a preventable factor. MGS is a very mature series and Snake is a very mature character; his inclusion could have raised the rating of the games. Snake uses weapons like grenades and mines, something that the ESRB could have raised the rating on. Nintendo may have prevented his inclusion for this very reason and they did outright cut content to get this rating.
3. Konami's relationship with Nintendo is very bad recently. They are less active on Nintendo consoles and they have a very iffy relationship with Nintendo. Konami may not want to request to put Snake in, especially when the guy who begged Sakurai to put Snake in Brawl is (supposedly) fired (and I only say supposedly because who knows what Kojima is actually doing).
4. The Wii U isn't doing well financially. This also could have been a preventing factor as the Wii U isn't holding up well against the PS4 and Xbox One, two systems that will get MGSV. This means that Snake's inclusion is a double edged sword; include Snake and they will get profit from MGS fans who might not have bought a Wii U in the first place, but the competition could profit by buying MGSV and thus hurt Nintendo a bit more.
It's honestly for these reasons why I think Snake doesn't have a strong chance at all. Could I be wrong? Perhaps, but I think Snake should have been in the base game to have a chance.
One thing to note: yes, Ryu is pretty odd as he is a Capcom character. However, his inclusion is made slightly easier as Nintendo already has the rights to a Capcom character with Mega Man; they could ask Capcom to include Ryu and, knowing how Capcom loves their crossovers, would agree to such a thing.
What is going to be a major preventable factor now is going to be Konami itself. Konami is moving onto mobile platforms instead of working on home consoles, so they might not take interest in having Snake in Smash. Not only that, but Kojima is going to be laid off, ya know... the guy who made the Metal Gear series and begged for Sakurai to put him in Smash? Now that he won't be around, this casts more doubt on Snake's chances. Being a veteran and having ballot support as a result of it can only push Snake so far.
I think the chances of a Konami character are pretty low for the direction that they are taking.
Konami has made it clear where they are going and what direction they are taking after those pachinko machines.
I can't account for what has gone out recently, but I can imagine Sakurai might not want to work with Konami for what they have done to his friend.
EDIT: Also, I want to state two things in regards to Konami.
1. Konami hasn't supported the Wii U at all. At least Sega, Capcom, and Namco tried with the trio of Sonic games (and the new Mario & Sonic), a new Monster Hunter and Resident Evil Revelations, and a Tekken game (and they tried to port a game before canceling it) respectively. There hasn't been any new games from Konami on the Wii U, not even the newest Metal Gear Solid, and they have only released Virtual Console games. They even abandoned the 3DS and even that Castlevania game was ported to other consoles. The trio is also still making games on the 3DS.
2. People have been mentioning about the Hudson Soft thing. What I say is this: So what? They own those IPs, yes, but they are still technically Hudson Soft IPs. They probably don't have time to focus on those series to instead focus on their own. If anything, I say that the Hudson Soft thing helps Bomberman more than anything, because it shows that Konami will allow other companies, including Nintendo, to work on it. This is something that I find to be irrelevant, unless they say that Nintendo can make a new Metal Gear.
Want: 0%
Copy and paste:
I don't hate Snake as a character and I loved playing as him in Brawl, but I don't want him to return at all.
In a game with Nintendo's all-stars, he is far from one in my eyes. Sonic, Mega Man, and even Pac-Man, I can identify them as Nintendo all-stars due to their history with the company; Snake barely has that with Nintendo.
My 0% want also comes from another reason: Bomberman. Snake's cut doesn't mean that he will get in, but the door is open for him slightly. Bomberman is an absolute dream of mine and Snake getting in was a preventing factor since he is now owned by Konami. This cut at least gives me hope for the next game...
Also, after hearing about what they have done, I started to hate this company and everything that it stands for. I can't support such a greedy, petty, and disgusting company.
While I still support Bomberman, I view him more as a Hudson Soft character instead of a Konami one. He may be Konami owned, but he is still a Hudson Soft character at heart.

Chance - 92% - Same as last time. He's as close to confirmed as we can get, I think.

Want - 100% - Of course!

Chance - 2.5% - Snake's not looking so good. He's got a semi-respectable spot, but it's not likely at all considering the main reason he got in is now no longer part of the company.

Want - 65% - I'd like him back, but I can handle his absence.

That's some questionably high optimism for Wolf there.

Wolf

Chance: 50%
Want: 70%

Now, let's be honest. Wolf, I acknowledge, is popular and wanted. But this late into DLC speculation, if he wasn't in during the time when the ballot was ongoing, then his chances of getting in AS a ballot character have plummeted. Sure, Star Fox Zero is a thing, but he's not going to come with it due to the Spring delay for the game(not to mention cross promotion with actual characters has NEVER been a thing) Wolf's only hope right now is that by some miracle the placeholder slots are for preballot characters for whatever reason.

Admittedly, Inklings do have a pretty decent chance due to the success of Splatoon.
However, I'm not a fan of the game, and not a fan of the characters either, at all.

There's no reason why he shouldn't be in the game. In terms of gameplay, Lucas was in a similar situation (a semi-clone at worst, mostly unique in general), and unlike Lucas, a game in his franchise is coming out. He's generally among the top three in any given poll, so he's clearly popular among the fans. It would be a bigger surprise if he wasn't added as DLC.

Want: 85%
There are Brawl veterans who I would like to see return more than Wolf; I expect Wolf will be back, but his return wouldn't excite me as much as bringing back an entire series would.

Snake
Chance: 75%

As far as third party characters go, I feel like Snake is the most likely addition by a massive margin. Since he's a veteran, a lot of the work (designing a moveset, creating a stage, voice acting, music, etc.) would have already been done; it seems to me like the main things that remain would be touching up his model and rebalancing the character to fit the current roster.

It seems like it would make both Nintendo and Konami a lot of money for little effort, and Sakurai felt that Snake's inclusion in Brawl was great, to the point where he's said that nothing will be able to top the amount of excitement that Snake's reveal generated. However, while Konami could desperately use any kind of good publicity at the moment, the reasons behind Snake's removal are so vague that we don't know whether Nintendo or Konami were responsible for it, or how willing they would be to bring him back as DLC.

Want: 100%
Snake was incredibly fun to play as in Brawl, he represents an entire series that has played a major role in the history of video games and continues to do so to this day, and his inclusion in Smash Bros. is what got me into the Metal Gear series. People say that "he doesn't fit in", but the same could be said about so many other franchises in Smash Bros. (you wouldn't think that Metroid and Animal Crossing, or Fire Emblem and Kirby, would fit well together), and his contrast with Nintendo's characters is what made him entertaining. (the Codec conversations seem to generally be received better than Palutena's Guidance because Snake and the Metal Gear cast had that contrast)

Inklings
Chance: 80%

For a while, I figured they might be left out of this game in order to be saved for Smash 5. Then I remembered that Smash Bros. games aren't created with sequels in mind - each one is treated as though it will be the last game. Splatoon is incredibly popular, with its release resulting in a large boost in Wii U sales (no small feat for a new IP), and the Inklings are popular characters (particularly in Japan, where the Inkling amiibo was in the top ten sold). With that in mind, and with no way of knowing how well Splatoon's popularity will last in the long term, now seems to be as good of a time as any to have the Inklings as playable characters in Smash Bros.

Want: 80%
The Inklings are in my top ten, but their inclusion wouldn't get me as excited as characters like Snake, K. Rool, or Rayman would. I feel like they would make a great addition to Smash, however, and while I'm not up to date on all of the weapons that they can use in Splatoon (I don't play online mode much since, let's be honest, I'm terrible at it), I feel like there would be a ton of material to use that would make them incredibly fun and interesting to play as.

If we can get Lucas, there's no real reason to not have Wolf.

Wolf
Chance: 62%
Every time we rate this character as time goes on, I keep dropping my chance rating little by little. I still think he's more likely than not, and definitely the most likely veteran we could possibly get at this point. It's just that Sakurai might be done focusing on veteran DLC. If we're getting only three more characters, I'd bet that they're probably all newcomers. So unless the team plans on continuing to create more character DLC into next year, I can't see Wolf as the shoe in that most people on Smashboards make him out to be. I'll give Star Fox's rival a total of 62%, which is a 6% drop from my previous rating.
Maybe we'll see at least one more veteran DLC character...

Want: 70%
I never used Wolf, but I still think he deserves to come back. Star Fox could use another representative especially with Star Fox Zero coming (hopefully) early next year.

Snake
Chance: 4%
I've been generous with this character in my last two ratings, but at this point I just don't think it's going to happen. Snake just feels like he was a one and done thing, and Kojima being the main reason Snake made it in the first place just makes matters worse now that he left the company. I'll give the stealth master a score of 4%, which is an 11% drop from my previous scores.
Seems to me like we're going to be kept waiting for a while longer...

Want: 35%
I wouldn't necessarily mind seeing him make a return as I have a friend who really likes the character.

Inklings
Chance: 9%
I still think it's likely that they'll be held back until the next Smash due to Sakurai already adding a little DLC representation of the franchise in Smash 4. Doesn't seem like he's willing to add them in at the moment, but I could be wrong. I think that the Inklings could be more fully realized in Smash if they were created for the base game in a future Smash title. Adding them now as DLC might not do them justice. I think there's a good chance that Sakurai might feel the same. I'll give the ink shooting squid kids a 9%, which is neither a rise or drop from my previous rating.
They have an inkling of a chance, but only an inkling...

Want: 85%
I think it would be really cool to have them in Smash 4, but I ultimately don't mind waiting for the next Smash if it comes to that.

Wolf's chances are without a shadow of a doubt the highest of all possible DLC fighters out there. Star Fox has gained a representative every game except for this one, in which we went down. Out of all the characters on the roster that were semi-clones and not as likes, it is shocking that he was not included in the base roster.

Chances for Snake = 50%
My want for Snake = 50%

With all the drama going on with Snake's parent company, I feel as his inclusion really comes to a flip of a coin. The same goes for how much I want him back. It is not like I do not want him back, but I will not be too sad if he does not return, either.

Chances for Inkling = 50%
My want for Inkling = 50%

I cannot make heads or tails out of that costume, so I decided to split their chances evenly. Could go either way, as their popular, but too new. It'd be cool to see them, but I won't be sad if they do not.

Wolf
Chances = 95% (Nothing holds him back. Unique first party veteran who is the most requested and has a new game in his series for cross-promotion.)
Want = 100% (Literally no reason not to.)

Snake
Chances = 30% (What the hell is going on with Konami? It wouldn't be a problem if the company wasn't in shambles.)
Want = 100% (The only reason not to is if you don't want too many 3rd Parties. Five is perfect.)

Inklings
Chances = 85% (Has a lot of stuff going for them.)
Want = 50% (I never played Splatoon, so I don't really have an opinion of them.)

We got some very weird results in on the last day. Inkling is now 2nd in chance overall but is no longer one of the top 10 most wanted.

Alright everyone this is it the final day. Please tell us all about your most hype inflating and deflating moments in SSB4 speculation. Feel free to talk about your favorite memories, final predictions or anything else you want to say. I will not be ending this day, I will leave it open until the mods close this thread. I will however have one final post that I'll hopefully make tomorrow.

Hype
ROY'S OUR BOY. ROY'S OUR BOY
Damn he looked great. I wore that avi of him proudly after seeing him make his smashing return. His look was fantastic and pretty much everything was perfect. Being launched with freaking Ryu set Hype thrusters to 11.

Deflating (ignoring that Roy was leaked)
The smash fanbase. We are terrible. I've been told to kill myself multiple times. It's nothing new but damn these are videogame characters for a game made for children. We fight and argue like in the end this will be super important. But it's not. It's really bad and this community can be crazy childish sometimes. Not to say im innocent but some people really need to lighten up and get off their high horses (ill admit im one of them)

Final words
This thread started out great. But then we got farther and farther in. Bias became more and more apparent (wolf rated higher than leaked characters) and many, MANY horrible nominations. While some people like Kalimdori and BluePikmin kept things interesting it wasn't enough, especially as more and more members left further skewing the scores. It was nice while it lasted. And i'm certainly glad I never wound up making this. Yikes.

For those of you who tried and stuck it out and though logically. good for you. For those of you who ignored Reps and want who you want. You're the real MVPs. For those of you who let bias and rage overtake you, i'm sorry for you.

Smash Speculation was a blast. See you in my group. GL HF

Most Hyping Moment: Shulk Reveal

Sometimes I wonder how hyped I would have been if it weren't for the leaks. Still, I was delighted to see him in action when I first watched that trailer. I'd hate to quote that tired meme, but my initial impression was essentially "I'm really feeling it!"

Honorable Mention: Mega Man Reveal

Mega Man was my most wanted character and Shulk was a close second. Coincidentally, two of my most wanted characters for DLC happen to be Zael (one of the Operation Rainfall protagonists, like Shulk) and Simon Belmont (a third party platforming icon who made his debut on NES, like Mega Man). Speaking of the latter...

Most Deflating Moment: Konami's Downfall

I promised earlier that I wouldn't beat this dead horse even further, didn't I? I'll just cut right to the chase then: Simon Belmont is my most wanted character not already featured on the roster and unfortunately, I'll likely never be able to play as him in a Smash Bros. game ever. (Sure, Miriam from Bloodstained, the upcoming Castlevania spiritual successor, will likely end up being the next best thing to support when Smash 5 is in production, but I think Simon deserves a spot on the roster more, being more classic and iconic. Not that I'd be opposed to her, though.) I also sympathize with supporters of other Konami characters such as Snake and Bomberman.

However, I'm sure the final Smash 4 roster will be solid overall, with or without the inclusion Simon or any other Konami character for that matter.

Confessions
  • I regret abstaining from giving Bomberman a want rating.
  • I do sometimes question whether or not I've been too harsh with certain chance ratings in the past. This is why my final chance rating for Snake is 1% rather than an approximate 0%.
My Thoughts on This Edition of RTC Overall

For every Wolf, there was always a Chin. We went from the highest contenders to the absolute bottom of the barrel. Sometimes we put all our passion into giving descriptions to our favorite and least favorite characters, but other times we posted zero jokes and questioned what we were rating for. Some of our chance ratings were fair and balanced while others were incredibly biased. It was a fun ride while it lasted, but not as enjoyable as the old RTC. I also missed Groose, though I was pleasantly surprised to see @Hades the Magnificent make his grand return, even if it was only for a brief moment.

Final Predictions: Wolf and... I have no idea at this point. Sakurai has thrown way too many curveballs for me to speculate any further, especially when there has been insufficient information given outside of rumors that should be taken with a grain of salt.

Wonderful.

Most Hyping Moment: Mewtwo reveal

Finally. My most wanted character had made it, when everyone thought he was done for. And at the same time, he confirmed DLC as well. A painful amount of waiting was worth it to play as him again, his low tier status be damned.

Close Second:
Robin reveal

This is in retrospective, really. I SHOULD have been hyped for that, but given I was blind to the power of that reveal at the time, well, I didn't care. Looking around, I don't see another reveal that's on the level of this one besides Mewtwo(who is above Robin, natch).

Deflating Moment

The King K. Rool costume. While I myself am neutral to it, I HATE how it spawned an endless debate about "HEY MII COSTUMES DONT MEAN ANYTHING THEY CAN STILL GET IN". Like, seeing people repeat the same argument over and over...just give us some indication already.

Final Predictions

Ha...predictions. Not even Wolf is a guarantee, guys.

I'm predicting one curveball for DLC.

Final Words

I entered this game arguing on Young Link's day. Wouldn't be the last time, but I find the arguments quite nice to look at in retrospective. You never know what you can learn from them. And to top it all off, I think my most wanted was rated quite fairly even with what was against it. Not overrated or underrated.

Hoping this thread gets archived somewhere where I can easily access it to revisit old memories.

Ciao.

My first post in this thread, IIRC, and it's when it's dying. :p

Most Hyping Moment - When I got the game the Christmas it came out, and then the reveal of Mewtwo in the 50-Fact Extravaganza soon afterwards.

Most Deflating Moment - Ridley being confirmed as a stage hazard.

Final Predictions - King K.Rool as the Ballot character with Wolf maybe coming out to promote Star Fox Zero.

Best Moment: Mewtwo reveal, not only was Mewtwo getting revealed awesome, but it also mean't smash was getting DLC, which at least to me, was insanely hype worthy.

Close second: Robin and Lucina reveal, because it killed the Gematsu leak and for a time it gave me false hope that we were guaranteed to get Magolor or Bandana Dee in the base game.

Worst moment: Honestly, the absolute worst moment for me during speculation was when we rated Roy on this thread, seriously that was terrible, all the name-calling and the unnecessary drama was ridiculous. Speaking of drama...

The drama that was had during speculation was ridiculous. I'm not speaking about the suspense between reveals, I'm speaking about stuff like the absurd rift between supportbases and the unnecessary flamewars that spawned from it.

Look, it's fine to be a bit anxious about your favorite characters, and it's also fine to think their more deserving than whoever else, it is not fine, however to rub it in people's faces by going into their own threads and/or namecalling them and telling them that their characters suck and are inferior, seriously, that's called being a jerk. It's natural to be emotional and feel like your character is deserving, it's also fine to politely debate about whether or not blablablathecharacter is deserving or not, you just don't have to be a jerk about it though and shouldn't act like one.

Same thing with the arguments between people who believe reps matter and those who don't, people will have ideological differences, that's bound to happen in nature, but there's no reason that so many people had to fight endlessly over those differences, they should have just either spoken about it and debate civilly, or accept that other people have different beliefs and that their beliefs don't need to be "corrected" or changed.

Sorry about the length of that, it just really annoys me that this community fights so often when we don't have to.

Best thing about speculation: The community, even though my main gripes stem from the community itself, it's still my favorite thing about the whole speculation. Seriously, you guys are the best, I love this community, and I'll remember all the fun we had together. This is one of the friendliest communities I've ever been in, and I'm going to miss all of the people who'll leave once the character boards close down. It's been a pleasure with you guys.

Final predictions: I don't think I can predict Sakurai, it's like trying to predict the weather, once you think you've got the pattern down, it does something weird and it's ruined :p.

I'd also like to say thank you to colder_than_ice colder_than_ice for sticking through this all the way to the end, I'm sure it was really tiring and probably pretty annoying having to count every vote and then calculate them, the fact that you did so for 192 different voting periods is undeniable proof that you were dedicated to this and honestly, it's pretty awesome that you did that, thank you.

MOST HYPING MOMENT
DLC Fighters confirmed. When Mewtwo was revealed to be a DLC fighter, I wan't as hypes for him as I was the fact that DLC will be coming to Smash.

MOST DEFLATING MOMENT
Roy and Ryu's sound files took me from one-hundred to zero, real quick. Instantly filled me with dread all the way up until their reveal. I still have a bitterness towards the two, especially towards Ryu.

FINAL PREDICTION
Inklings: Isanely likely. Placed before Wolf because I think that we'd probably get them at the same time, with Inklings just being revealed first. They have great moveset potential, aside from a few quirks I have about how their ink would work.

Wolf: Literally no reason to not include him. He's unique, a veteran, most requested, has a new game in his series coming out, and so much more. Nintendo would be stupid to skip out on a marketing opportunity between Smash and Star Fox Zero.

King K. Rool: Probably the most popular ballot pick for most. I feel that the costume will hold him back unless the Inklings get revealed, which is very likely.

Isaac: Another very popular ballot choice. He lost his role as an assist trophy, but in the end, all that did was help him. If Golden Sun's developers have any plans to revive the series, Isaac in Smash Bros would help out tremendously.

Dixie Kong: Highly requested, easy to implement, and a scrapped Brawl character. She's also more relevent than King K. Rool, having been in Tropical Freeze. There isn't a whole lot holding her back, and I don't see why we can't get them both.

Krystal: Krystal's position is a curve-ball, as it's really a three-way tie between her, Snake, and Bandanna Dee. The order I placed the Ballot picks in is based off the SourceGaming poll, and Snake, Krystal, and Bandanna Dee all could easily qualify for the last slot. I decided to put Krystal in this slot over Snake because of all of Snakes 3rd Party Konami/Kojima crap (Because if it weren't for that, Snake would definitely get in instead) and over Bandanna Dee because she has more votes on the poll.

FINAL WORDS
This game was great. I believe I came in on either day four or five, and I stayed here for quite a long while. I left for sometime after harassed for defending somebody because they didn't agree with that person's chance rating, but I eventually came back when we started re-rating popular characters. At least Wolf sits as number one on both lists now, haha! On a serious note, colder_than_ice colder_than_ice , you did a great job sticking with this game all the way until the end. All those calculations day after day would have driven me mad.

Most hyping moment: Mewtwo/DLC Fighters confirmed + Ballot
I was disappointed that Mewtwo, King K. Rool and Ridley weren't on the base roster. That's why Mewtwo's confirmation and the ballot (which also made K. Rool getting to Smash possible again) were hype.

Most deflating moment: Ridley as stage hazard
Ridley was my second most wanted character, and like many others, I lived in a false hope that Sakurai was just trolling and Ridley was going to be playable. While I will be supporting Ridley for next Smash, I won't be expecting him to happen.

Honorable mention: K. Rool Mii Costume
K. Rool is my wanted character, and the Mii Costume puts his chances into questionable position. I still see him as likely, though. Not to mention that I already disliked the Miis, and this made me dislike them even more.

Confessions:
  • I regret participating into the "Young Link day" argument. I said things that I shouldn't have said, and I even got insulted during the day.
  • I also regret calling Troykv Troykv 's Micaiah rating biased. Sorry about that, Troykv, I overreacted. (I don't regret criticizing the ridiculously high Talim and Giana ratings, though)

Final predictions:
3-5 of these: King K. Rool, Wolf, Inkling, Isaac, Bandana Dee

Final words:
I mostly enjoyed the game, until the characters we rated started to be mostly obscure/random ones. Nevertheless, I want to thank colder_than_ice colder_than_ice for running this game from beginning to the end.

Most hyping moment: This is difficult to decide, but probably the moments where I felt more the hype for this game are these:

Megaman Reveal

You know... that moment when one of the most wanted characters in the fandom finally appears in Smash... And looks awesome!

Mewtwo Reveal (The DLC Confirmation)

Mewtwo was in that time the overall most wanted character in any media, any site... anywhere. But moreover... DLC IS REAL!

Smash Ballot Reveal (Addionally the Lucas's Reveal)

Lucas get probably the most unexpected character reveal ever in the speculation... and alongside him... The Ballot Arrives, oh god... the ballot... so many hopes and dreams. Since of the begin of the Ballot Speculation I was hoping for Roy and dreaming for Micaiah.

Roy's Reveal

Finally! One of my favorite character in Fire Emblem Series and Smash Bros in General finally back with a really awesome look... I love his Final Smash :3

Moreover, with the Roy's reveal I started to support harder Micaiah.

Most deflating moment:

The ESRB Leak

Yeah... That was a weird moment... in the brighter side, Duck Hunt and Bowser Jr. were incredible character to select.

Honorable Mention: (isn't exactly something that really hypes for the character reveal... but I like it because debunks some old ideas with Roy and Ike)

Chrom/Gematsu Fall and Robin's Reveal

Finally... a new Fire Emblem character that isn't a blue-haired lord with a sword... Personally I could like to see other character, but between the three viable option for a Awakening Chracter... Robin was the best.

I will post predictions and otherwise feelings later.

Yay! :D :happysheep:

Oh? Can I ask why my rate doesn't look biased now for you? :3
