Why has it become such a standard at Brawl and Melee tournaments for spectators and the competitor's friends to basically scream into the players' ears while cheering them on. I think it's incredibly rude and I don't know, maybe distracting.

For example:

It might be because I'm transitioning from a completely different competitive scene, but I just find that kind of behavior ridiculous and I have no idea why it's acceptable in a competitive environment. It's distraction and it's rude.

I don't know why thathappens at brawl tournys........ but at melee tournys it happens because everyone is watching a fast paced exciting game full of combos and awesome tech skill. So much hype

He wasn't being rude at all. >_>

Maybe people are having fun... Don't expect it to be a library. If so, then the tournament would be dead. ;-; Maybe it's because the place is filled with young people. So what, place is a little loud. Aren't sports usually loud as well? Gee really quite... wow I can SEE the hype.

Sometimes people can get carried away.

I mean, I don't scream directly into people's ears.

I've been to some brawl tournaments, but the only people I saw yelling were people who everyone found to be obnoxious and annoying.

Not trying to get into that whole melee/brawl thing, though....

The hype-ness is just another form of mental pressure on the players. I know plenty of spectators who participate in matches by screaming and **** talking intentionally to distract one player or another.

I won't allow it at my underground tournaments/it does not happen at my underground tournaments. MLG also tries to stop it (players are roped off and away from spectators) but with very large crowds it is hard to control.

It's excitement.
Exciting matches make people vocal.

Is there a difference between Hype and people being douchebags? Absolutely. You don't need to be right next to someone yelling at them during their match, and that kind of crap needs to be cut out, but if you've got a handful of spectators there's not much wrong with excitement from time to time. It might be good to ask spectators to move away from the players though.

Also that video is a hilarious example because I don't recall Rid complaining about the noise when he beat Ally.

if you dont like it

dont go to a tournament

or play with people that have fun

or get off this website

lmao why not

seriously people need to grow some freakin backbone

when proffesional sports are played theres always crowds

tens of thousands of people

and they say whatever the hell they want and nobody can do anything to stop it

trying to stop people from doing it while playing a video game is ********

if someone would be yelling right in my ear tho like literally right next to me

that would be different

but at smash tournaments people are usually a few feet away atleast

except for the players good friends/crew/w.e

imo

no johns
