when watching videos of others playing pikachu, they seem to be able to quick attack straight down. i can do this only if i have already quick attacked one way, but it seems that others can do this on the first one. down-b does thunder, and left or right does the skull bash, but i can't seem to do it without doing one of those moves. any advice?

oh snap!...your name...pikaska..ska as in the music genre? as in streetlight manifesto, mighty mighty bosstones, and toasters?

as for quick attack...make sure you do up + b before inputting the direction. for example..going straight down would require you to input up + b and, while pikachu's starting the quick attack, then down on the control stick.

Try doing it slowly at first. Make sure you do the quick attack, then press down. It doesn't matter if you go straight up the first few times, because that's what happens when you don't make any directional inputs, or you make them too slow. After a while you can start doing it faster and faster and eventually be able to do it straight down.

Basically what Festizzio said. You'll know you're doing it fast enough when you're already pressing down before Pikachu actually starts moving.

Ska is ridiculous awesome

EDIT: Except you forgot Reel Big Fish

thanks for the advice. i'll work on that.

i actually don't really listen to ska too much anymore. i was way into it in high school. reel big fish is one of the few bands i still listen to, actually.

I also need some quick attack help.

What is the trick for standing on the stage, not too close to the edge, and sweetspotting the edge w/ Quick-Attack? I've seen it done but I can't figure it out. If I stay horizontal then I miss the edge and if I angle down on the second one then I die.

It's most reliable to sweetspot when you angle left/right and then 24.5 degrees below the horizontal.

The trick is to position yourself so that you're roughly one Pikachu-length out from the stage at the end of the first direction, then go back in from there. To do this, go to Pokemon Stadium in Training, stand just behind/on top of the black line on the ground and try it from there. Once you have the proper technique for grabbing the ledge down, go to other stages and try to figure out the distance.

It takes practice, a lot like learning to sweetspot the ledge in the first place. Just keep at it.

Also, with the second part of the quickattack, make sure you only input the direction then let go, as if you hold any down direction as your character passes the edge, you won't grab it. So, hit the control stick over, then diagonally back/down, then let go.

D'oh.
Well that fixed my problems with doing the trick.
Kinda feel stupid now. :p Let go of button.
