Is that sarcasm?

You can eat your words if he is an unlockable.

And how do you know what the first event match is?
you'd have to be quite stupid to not know that everyone confirmed on Brawl so far are part of the starting crew

Also i'd go into the competitive scene when i get all characters.

Sakurai already said that third party characters have to be unlocked.

Once I have everything unlocked, and a couple hundred matches under my belt, it's time for stage builder!

I'll probably just fool around for two to three weeks and enjoy/rip the soundtrack before I get serious.

I'm a pretty good casual player. I've just won a few local tourneys, but I realize I would get utterly destroyed by any real pro. But since everyone is starting at the same level, I might try to join that scene.

Response from a semi-hardcore smasher (I play everyday, but never been to a tourney)
I checked my Melee records, and it took me about six weeks to unlock all characters, and two months to unlock all stages. After a month or maybe two (HOPEFULLY there'll be a 'Congratulations! You've unlocked all characters.' message) I'll go online. I won't feel a major need to go online before that point, anyway, since there's going to be so much to do offline! =D

ill get used to the gae first, maybe try to unlock everything, then jump into online.
People will find advanced techs soooo much faster with online in brawl.

I play melee competitively but I don't plan to play Brawl competitively. It's going to be years before the scene sorts itself out so I'll just drown myself in items and casual matches.

I think I will practice against the computer AI on level 9 untill I can consistenly 4 stock it in a 5 stock match or beat it without any deaths in a 3 stock match. That way I'll have a pretty good understanding of how the game will work so when I do go online I won't be suprised by something :p

I would play the game and then try the competitive scene. If I don't do so well than I'll keep practicing.

Ill just unlock everything and then play competitively...

I never got the chance to really be competitive because I never had the chance to go to a tourney since I dont think there are any in my area (and its not very appealing to my parents to drive for 5-6 hours to some other part of Florida just for me to lose and come back after the first round or so...)....

This is a bit different from the "What are you going to do when Brawl comes out?" thread.

What I would like to know is after you get Brawl, is when are you going to jump into the competitive scene? Will you start customizing your controls and playing competitive matches online within a week, or are you going to wait until everything is completely done in the game?

Casuals: Same question, but do you think, seeing as Brawl is a new game, that you might try to get into the competitive scene eventually, since everyone is basically starting out fresh as well?

Personally, I'm probably not going to worry about competitive matches for a while. I'll join the Brawl ladder on GB asap, but for the most part I will play casually. I'm going to unlock everyone and everything and just play every stage, play multiplayer with Pokeballs and Assist trophies on high, locally with my friends for the most part. It will probably be a good 2 months before I start, for then I will be practicing for whenever MLG Chicago is.
I'm going to get into the Brawl competitive scene as soon as possible.

I will probably never delve into the competitive scene. I mean, to me it's just a video game. I would personally consider it a huge waste of my time, and so would my parents. XD I have several other things I need to be practicing and taking seriously... I think it's best I keep playing Super Smash Bros. for fun. (and by "for fun" I mean that I'm not going to take it seriously, it's not saying that competitive players don't have fun!)
