He just djc fairs and then zcancels

only 4 frames of lag once zcanceled which gives you plenty of time to utilt. Go try it out yourself, its quite easy.

If your utilt isn't connecting it's probably because you're doing the fair too early.

just because a combo doesn't clock at "2" doesn't mean that it's not a combo.

if the counter stays at 1 and doesn't reset, it is still counted as a combo, from my experience.

also, zcanceling.

the counter will reset if you:

-miss your combo

the counter will incorrectly rest if you

-hit a wall
-hit a tornado
-are grabbed (falcon dive included)

the counter will incorrectly not reset if you

-let your opponent touch the ground for a split second but then continue a combo (this is always techable)

this is wrong.

l canceling is fine, i use both terms.

you don't need to djc the fair. just wait til just before you hit the ground, fair, hit z, uptilt. very easy after only a minute of practice.

you don't need to DJC the f-air. F-air to up tilt works. Same with b-air to up tilt or d-air to up tilt.

also, I believe you actually can hit someone before they are able to tech if the move is quick enough.

correct me if i am wrong.

Isn't there something funky about the combo meter being a few frames off? Meaning you can link together "combos" even when characters hit the ground?

Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3B6SBI3sTY

Can that be teched? If so, the game still considers it a combo hit.
Yes that can be teched.

The combo meter is actually like 1 or 2 frames off iirc on normal combos, because you can attack 1-2 frames before you can jump, and the combo meter ends based on when you can jump again.

1 frame of in US version, 2 frames in Japanese version. iirc

Its not L cancel its Z cancel because you can cancel lag on several things and so L cancel is not the most correct

It's always been z-cancel in ssb to me. I bet the majority of english speaking players who don't think saying l-cancel (when discussing ssb) is weird haven't been playing ssb for very long and/or are too influenced by melee.

this calls for a crew battle, the best way to resolve all smash related issues

Z-cancel Roster:
Isai
Frog
Alancitu
Ðånn¥ ][§sß][
Kefit
SuPeRbOoMfAn
th3kuzinator
Dsc
Pur*************tle

L-cancel Roster:
rpotts

If the L-cancel crew wins, it will have to fight the R-cancel crew:

R-cancel Roster:
PD

If the L-cancel crew defeats both crews, l-cancel will be an accepted ssb term used to describe the cancelling of aerial attack lag.

(Note: you could argue that saying l-cancel isn't weird when discussing Online SSB cuz Online SSB is already fake, but the video in the first post was recorded on console.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To help answer jiggssmash64's question, pressing L won't cancel nairs, bairs, uairs, or even dairs. Instead, press Z or the lesser used R. Thank you for your interest in my videos.

Just to complicate things, put me down for the fully typed out "lag-cancel" (not "l-cancel"). My argument for it: "lag-cancel" is friendly to both people who use Z and people who use R, and is easily understood across both games, without carrying the impression that the L button needs to be pressed (which is the problem with "l-cancel").

At only the cost of two extra letters (how often would you need to type it out anyhow--it's not like the airs) we eliminate the confusion in both games (since in Melee you can use L or R and in SSB you can use Z or R).

Z is fine for people who know the game. If there's a nub in attendance, it'll take two seconds to explain, and it's what we already use.

L-cancel is lag cancel, because you're canceling the landing lag of your aerials.

For Z-cancel, you're canceling "z"? Doesn't make sense.

L-cancel is a better term.

........

Z-cancel = pressing Z to cancel

And l-cancel is used in melee so it could get confusing.
Who uses R anyway

You can cancel with both Z or R on 64

but like star king said L-cancel doesn't mean the actual trigger "L". It stands for "lag cancel"

Yes, i explained this to fynal a couple post back. I just dont think saying L cancel is "better" than saying Z cancel.

So true kuz

Z canceling is dumb because SHFFZ can't be made into a word like SHFFL can with "Shuffle".

Unless people like to say Shuffzing =D

I use R to cancel, and say "L-cancel" in 64 and Melee.

Z makes no sense, and isn't the only button for it. (although I understand it is the norm to say-so whatever)
Just annoying when people are like, "L-cancel? I don't understand, this isn't Melee."

Plus I use Z to cancel plenty in Melee. Lag-Cancel works since there are 3 buttons for it in Melee.

You say Z "isn't the only button for it," but no one is saying saying R-cancel is weird.

I believe that when melee came out, people called it l-cancel because the L button happened to be pressed by the same finger that Z was pressed by the majority of SSB players, not because they thought, "hey let's use the term 'lag-cancel' because it covers all three lag-cancelling buttons. Oh yeah btw let's just say l-cancel for short." L-cancel, or pressing the l button to cancel lag, led to the term lag-cancel and not the other way around.

Therefore, z-cancel makes sense and only doesn't to people who believe l-cancel has always stood for lag-cancel. Z-cancel is SSB tradition, just not TANK/current melee tradition.

who ss ffs in this game anyway? A sh aerial is enough to suffice.
useful for samus, mario, luigi, kirby, pikachu, and DK

borderline useful/somewhat useful for jigglypuff

somewhat useful for ness

not as useful for fox, falcon, link and yoshi
