Water levels are expected to be as high as or higher than the 1974 floods.

In 1974 water depth of Elizabeth and Adelaide Streets was 1m

over 120k homes without power, some till next week. Brisbane river will peak tonight at 4am at around 5.2m down from 5.5m predicted. Ipswich area river thing peaked at 19.5m.

Those who came down to bris in 2k7 for CoK, remember when we went to the city for the day and walked around southbank and went on the citycat? Pretty much all of those areas completely submerged and water continues to rise. Worst affected areas are western brisbane into the CBD region.

"Wivenhoe was releasing 215,000 megalitres, up from 205,000 megalitres earlier in the day, but still lower than a peak of 645,000 megalitres per day on Tuesday night.

The Somerset Dam is discharging 123,000 megalitres per day.

Releases are expected to be increased to 301,000 megalitres per day when the downstream peak in the Brisbane River has passed." couriermail website.

This is a vid of the creek about 200m from my house - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj-p5n8RwxI
If the wivenhoe had burst then the shopping center you see could easily be completely submerged.

Theres also reports of a cyclone heading past the sealine border of Qld and N.S.W that could drop several hundred mls of rain around the 28th of Jan.

Caboolture was bad yesterday as well as sunnycoast and Petrie but luckily only our roads got submerged for the most part.. I made it home today by train but after 12pm or so public transport has stopped running until further notice.

Those are some amazing pics syke.

I couldn't get to work today because the GC express line was stopped at coopers plains.

I've also been informed that the Landcentre in Wooloongabba is closed til monday. So I get a small holiday while the city gets wet.
