I hope there aren't too many MU's like this
skip till the 7 min mark for the first stocks taken
If crap like this becomes the meta then I have lost hope for sm4sh. Thankfully this is so far the only match like this out of the many I have seen but the fact that this kind of thing is possible really worries me.

I think its more the rule-sets fault for longer matches. Some characters will just have interactions like that against other characters, and trying to force another type of fight is just going to get you chipped out.
I'm okay with time-outs being a legit stratagy, its nothing that isn't in other fighting games. a 3 stock 5 min ruleset makes it easier to go for timeouts than actual stocks though. 2 stocks 5 min might be the way to go.

Don't fall into the habit of waiting for patches to change your match results. Lucas isn't broken, and there's always something new to learn and perfect in smash.

Kudos on that backup but sorry for your loss... These are the things that grind...

Bright side is sometimes you do better second time around, if this is something that can be done better.

Totally agree. Just me using Johns tbh. I'm not very good at all, but im working on it!

maybe people wouldn't be so campy if every moron didn't assume that eight minutes should be the default amount of time per match because melee

Or maybe people are block-heads who refuse to learn from the mistakes, and don't get their cookie-cutter-copying gameplay exploited and them humiliated for it enough to discourage their being stagnant players.

Heads up: this match went on so long because of a bet between the two players. They went out of their way to camp as much as possible. That said, this is still concerning for two reasons:

1. Excessive camp like we see in the video seems like a viable playstyle. Arguably even optimal -- in the next match, the Villager player tried a more aggro approach and was thoroughly whooped by Palutena's spacing prowess. I'm in the minority here, but I'm convinced camp and spacing will become Smash 4's dominant playstyle; I expect less Greninjas, Sheiks, and Bowsers and more ROBs, Duck Hunts, and Pac-Mans as the meta develops. That's worrying.

2. There is remarkable stubbornness about switching to a two-stock ruleset. We've had both two- and three-stock tourneys for Smash 4 and we know both work, but three-stock tourneys take longer for no real benefit (I don't recall seeing a three stock comeback between two high level players in any of the three-stock tournaments I watched). Longer matches means scheduling concerns and headaches for TOs, but it also means key matches being shown off-stream to conserve time. Hell, it might even mean nixing custom moves. Advocates of three-stock rulesets have proposed other changes to save time, but the lingering question is why not just switch to a two-stock moveset to save time and be done with it. I don't understand these people.

Unrelated question: I heard rumblings that BH4 would feature a PMBR announcement. Any confirmation on this, or just speculation?

That was possibly the worst 8 minutes of my life. Ffs when are they going to institute a one stock ruleset for this campy as all hell game.

Probably but if that just means that a close set is 15 minutes of camping, then I'm not watching it. At least hbox vs armada they both had to really stay on their toes just to maintain their camp and it was pretty dynamic. This was embarrassing.

So I'm picking up ICs whilst I don't have access to PM. We'll I'm playing everyone in melee but I intend to actually try to transfer over my ICs. I recall hearing that wobbling is removed from PM or something? Is that right? What happens if you try?

The only thing you could transfer over is the "throw to hit to regrab" chaingrab, unless you do that bug that has something to do with throwing beside the ledge, if it wasnt fixed

Only the regrabs(escaped easily with SDi) and most desyncs will transfer over. In the current verison, it is not worth learning IC
Wait for the next installment to make that call.

I think they just escape from the grab.
How, though? Wobbling works because you can't escape a grab even after you've mashed out because you can't escape whilst in hitstun and wobbling causes permanent hitstun. Did they remove that mechanic, or did they change the amount of hitstun on pummel and/or dtilt/ftilt/dspec so that it's not a hitstun lock anymore?

I'm learning them in Melee because they're cool in melee, I'm just asking if they're gonna transfer in PM 3.5, where I'm assuming the grab release points and Nana's ai will be fixed, since I heard they're off in 3.0. If the only thing that doesn't transfer is wobbling, then that's fine, though wobbling is mad funny RIP.

The guy playing Villager had a bet to run the clock out, so yeah. Not the norm.


Pretty sure from what I last read the norm was about 4m30sec for 2 stock.

Iirc, if youre besides a ledge nana will always throw in a certain direction (forgot which throw or direction) which made chaingrabs possible. I dont really know what youre referring to, tink

Nana will always throw towards the closest ledge if you're close to it, and she favors back throw on platforms but might throw either forwards or backwards as her ai treats both sides of the platform as a ledge. When not near the ledge, her throws are random. The ledge handoff is performed by facing the ledge, grabbing with either of the ICs. Nana will always fthrow, and you can grab the opponent right after the throw with popo and have him dthrow or fthrow and time it so that nana grabs the opponent right after the throw before the enemy flies off. Repeat until you run out of room on the ledge and finish with a grab to smash, or you can start to wobble I guess. It's pretty difficult, as the exact timing is dependent on your opponent's weight class and size.

Yea but, they suck in pm dog, as of now anyway. Like, unless they can actually compete with everyone else's buffed neutral and projectiles in 3.5 they ain't doin ****, just like this patch. Forget the punish game breh, means nothing if you can not get in.

If youre talking about opponents escaping from grabs, then it depends on what direction the opponent is holding before getting released, either up or down.
