First off, Lucas and Ness should be referred to as "Mother's Boys."

Second, me and all the other dudes out in Vegas who did well in the first PM tournament here in forever got destroyed by Falcos the second one (this last Sunday). I was totally at a lost, and I was very frustrated (not during the matches, but after) because I was very confused. I just could not for the life of me figure out how to beat Falco.

So... can someone please explain to me the simple things I need to know to fight this *******? I assume I should probably try to DI shines instead of getting bamboozled by them, but what else? His out of shield game is just so solid. I play Mario and Wario and Nair-ing out of shield still didn't seem to help at all. >=/

u really just need to roll like a noob against falco's shield pressure, it's really obnoxious and his pressure isn't even hard to do unlike fox's so you'll be exposed to stupid shield pressure even if your opponent isn't very good. most of where you need to outplay falcos are while they're recovering (they're usually really bad at abusing falco's amazing recovery options) because you're not winning the neutral game or combo game any time soon.

Unfortunately for me, all the people that play Falco out here aren't just the randoms that play him as their side character, but the dudes that main him and mix up his recovery very well. I will definitely try to powershield practice more though.

I honestly feel like I'm never "outplayed" by the people that are playing Fox/Falco, which is practically more frustrating, because I feel it is hard to figure out what I did wrong then because their character just succeeds at doing just about everything well. The players almost make him look braindead to be honest, though I know that isn't the case. Why is Falco's Dair even a spike again? Serious question too.

1) Work on your punishment game.
1.5) Hit them what you want to hit them with.
2) Don't let yourself get punished more than you need to.
2.5) Don't get hit by what you don't want to get hit by.

Rolling = good, Falco is immobile. He has massive holes in his game, no matter how perfectly he can pressure. Pay attention to anything you can, and look for anything you can. It's tricky when you don't know what to watch for, but it will come in time.
Stay on his FACE. He'll try choking you out with spacing and crush you with hard hit-boxes...
Just stay on his face and make him have to force something out as he runs out of room, and punish it. Don't force anything but positioning and occasional trades that might favor you. Just take up space and stay on his face, he'll HAVE to make the move eventually.

Fox is awesome... You should play Fox.

You don't know how weird it is to hear not one, but two people recommending rolling as a tactic to fight a character in Smash. I thought Smash was so against excessive rolling that I would never have expected that as an answer. I mean, I'll try it if it works, but I'd honestly not expect it to work too well when he laser mashes and mixes it up so easily.

Why can't the space animals be cool and fun like Wolf. :(

Watch some M2K vs PP in Melee, and figure out why he rolls when he rolls, and why he doesn't when he doesn't.
Melee is a nice reference new players have for dealing with shiny things.

Edit: I'll find and link you something I just searched to show a local Ganon how to deal with Falco. It will help I'm sure, since Ganon has (can have, rather) more trouble with that stuff than anyone.
Here you go. 43 minutes, a Falco vs Ganon match. Count the rolling.

+ You haven't fought a Wolf who's playing ahead of the mainstream meta-game, have you? ;)
Wolf is a ****er too.

In other news, anyone play that Lego Marvel Superheroes game/how is it?

The best new-years I ever had was playing Lego Starwars with my little bro in a massive theater until 6am while baby-sitting some kids for the night.
Stoked on that game, I like Mahvel Babzyz...

Wolf is a ****er too.

I saw some decent moments with the rolling that DID make pretty good sense, but the big thing is that that Falco, no offense to him, looks nowhere nearly as competent with the character as the Falco players out here. The biggest issue I saw with that Falco's play vs Ganon was how he seems to be WAY too focused on lasers, more so than even doing a combo out of them. He often hops forwards and backwards with lasers, but doesn't sneak in a smash, grab, jab, nothing. And his edgeguarding was much worse. There he pretty much only lasered. He didn't empty hop into grab, Bair their recovery out of his shield, laser into SOMETHING, nothing.

Our Falco players are legit Melee players that play and win, not just play him for fun. :(

Good, and for sure.
It was simply an example of the rolling thing, and the first 30 seconds of the match is all you needed to watch to see an example of it. Glad you caught it. Why even comment on the edge-guarding when it was all about rolling? haha
Watch M2K and PP for actual Falco-dealings beyond JUST rolling observations.

Seriously, anyone play Lego Marvel?
I'm contemplating getting it, but want to get some reviews first.

A close friend of mine mains Falco, and yet he doesn't know any techniques like shining.

Really tempted never to show him as I doubt I'd ever beat his Falco again.

I don't know about you, but characters being "balanced" because a character has a high cost of player error, never stood well with me.

It's the same reason why I think Akuma is kinda silly and why Seth is ******** in SF4.

Like It can work, but it feels like a cop out.

"oh man this character is really good should we tweak him to be reasonable?"
"nah let's just make it so that if you **** up you get ****ed up harder!"
"that sounds like a great idea!"

like you're literally relying on non-game attributes to balance a character lol.

All this Falco hate lol. I actually like him. He's like a cooler, more stylish version of Fox.

I'm playing Melee more atm since my brawl disc got totaled when somebody decided to try and shove it in the Melee case, so maybe that's why I'm on the Falco train.

I played ganon because someone in the stream wanted me to haha.
pretty sure that was me, because i was curious about the changes i'd seen on another stream. turned out you either had a different build, or the changes were reverted : p

thanks for taking the request, though!
