Vouching for Planetary Annihilation. It had a really rough start in early access due to poorly explained pricing scheme(when it was in early development it was on steam for $90 which threw people off) and the devs did some questionable things(like selling retail copies of the game while it was in early access, and starting a kickstarter for another rts game that failed hard) but they stepped up their game since then. Currently the game is a bit imbalanced when you play on multiplanet systems which leads to long, drawn out games but they're working on adding asteroids that you can send at turtled planets which should help a lot
What I like the most about the game is how it doesn't focus on micro management, moreso general unit positioning, map control and resource managing. Micro is still important but it doesn't play a big deal in most non-air skirmishes (it defines who wins in an air skirmish though). It also doesn't require a really high APM to be competitive
Dota is fun if you choose to have fun with it, league is faster, but more homogenized IMO. It might be more balanced and competitive.
In my experience they're both about the same speed, but things can go south in Dota quicker. If character diversity as a form of balance, then Dota would more balanced - almost all of the heroes are used in competitive play at any given time, whereas in League it feels like only a small subset of characters are
