McCleod Gaming should not be wasting its time on a fan flash of a Nintendo game with anime characters (and Mr. Incredible) thrown in. Instead it would be more worthy of their time to make a completely original (potentially better) platform-fighter-type game with its own aesthetic. They could add grab teching and Roman Cancels and wavedashing and Burst, all the while sticking to three dedicated fight buttons (attack, special, and shield).

The Project M Dev Team should also consider making their own game with unique characters instead of trying to add Knuckles the Echidna to a mash-up of misfit video game characters.

I would play the heck out of that.

I'd like to see more Smash-likes as well...with some original material of course. As for the comment on the topic of the Project M devs making their own game, I'd be all for that. However, one must consider the fact that making a massively played tournament game, let alone from the team behind one of the most lauded console-game mods, isn't exactly a small task. These guys have jobs, and hobbies as well. One would need to be knowledgeable of the vast expansion of development scope it takes to make original characters and movesets, let alone making the system these features work in from scratch. That's not even considering the act of expanding a full Art Team, Music/SFX Team, on top of a group of capable software developers prepared for a completely new set of mechanics that need to be seamlessly engineered and organized into what's under the hood of these thing. Oh, and PR is a thing to.

I think people dismiss it because it's a sprite game

Peeps love Melees 3D planes and look. If someone replicated that well enough in a similar game, I think that's where the hype would go.

Character design matters too.

@ Raccoon Chuck Raccoon Chuck You are absolutely right that it would take a lot of work, more work then just making Ganondorf fly.

But at least then they have the option to ask for compensation.

Either way I have been and shall continue to enjoy playing the work that they have made available to us at this time.

I envy your tune-out-ing ability.
First mistake! If you want to be good at tuning out, you need to practice tuning out. If you practice tuning out, you shouldn't envy.

A new game by the PMDT would totally amazing, but I'm so used to the Smash roster right now that I would be missing them very much.

McLeodGaming is making SSF2 as a love letter to the Smash series, and Mr. Incredible being in SSF1 is universally agreed to have been just plain silly (along with SSF1 in general. We don't talk about SSF1). You think that, I think that, even the developers think that. Mr. Incredible is so notorious, they made a quick, temporary spriteswap of Wario into him to make an April Fools' joke video. They didn't make SSF1, though. The SSF2 dev team is exclusively for SSF2.

As for an original platform fighter, I hear there's something called Doujin Spirit that was recently forced to switch to purely original characters (it was once Touhuu-based) due to licensing issues. It's focusing itself on Melee's mechanics. And Air Dash Online, too, remember that?

I've never heard of Air Dash online but it looks neat. It seems to have been canned?

A Touhou fly-around shoot-'em-up platform-fighting game sounds goddarn amazing. Unfortunately searching for "Doujin Spirit" leaves me with too ambiguous of results.

I would play that orca in Rivals of Aether all day. Unfortunately I am totally uninterested in any of the other characters. Hitstun, having solely their promotional videos to judge, looks to me to be too great. Seems like characters can combo each other for days without retaliation (this is why having a Burst option is neat).

I firmly believe that SSB has perfect levels of hitstun. I miss DK's uair juggles.

I've brought this up briefly in the character voting thread, but I really think Master Hand should be given a chance. He is, technically, a Melee veteran, and to me it's really not hard to imagine how he can be altered into a standard playable template. But maybe I'm just weird.

How high are you rn?
64's hitstun is more ridiculous than the already ridiculous hitstun of PM Falcon's Stomp and throws

No, the touhou game is renamed nanse or something like that. It's supposed to mean south west. I don't feel like checking my Chinese, but I know nan is south.

Air dash online got canned because no one wanted to support it. It's kinda sad, actually. M2k's swf avvy is a char from that game iirc.

Also **** all the haters on the anime characters on ssf2. Anime is ****ing amazing, even if I don't like Bleach, Naruto, or Dragon Ball Z very much.

I gotta get my laptop back so I can go back to getting wrecked on SoldierSunday's streams.

I have officially certified that you are weird and that the final boss of classic mode (which could be considered a campaign) should remain unplayable similarly to many other games.

While ago I got a bunch of people from the social thread to plan a Platform Fighter amongst ourselves but it sort of fell apart.

Wonder if I should revive it....

@ JOE! JOE! I can and would still talk about it for hours and I still think about it almost every day
This will never leave my mind until it's a game I promise you, I don't have a choice in the matter
I have so many more great proposals/fleshed out mechanics now
So if we start up the discussion only to drop it again eventually
Some years down the road when you are some big name game dev

Ressurection Music Fighter 2015

Edit:

Fr those interested, the idea was a platform fighter with a smidge of TFG splashed in based around music. Each fighter would be based on a style of music. Examples are a Rocker, Heavy Metal, Classical, Jazz, Swing, an IC-Esque Dance duo, etc

Are moves going to be rhythm-game based and can I play them with my instrument peripheral of choice

Cause looks like @standardtoaster seems hell-bent on not granting my wish of playing a fighting game with a DDR pad

Yet in many other games, a weaker form of the final boss is not uncommon to unlock. For example, Soul Calibur with Abyss in III and Algol in IV and V, Street Fighter with first Akuma in Super II Turbo and later Seth in IV and Oni in IV AE. Being unheard of is one thing that the concept definitely isn't.

I think he could be made into a truly unique and, yes, balanced character. Of course the Classic Mode version would still be the same, but that was the case in all of the other examples that I listed, too; they all had very noticeably higher stats and different properties as single player opponents than playable characters.

And there is a demand for it - look at all the fake codes to unlock him that people spread around since 64. Look at Bowser's final smash; look at how he can be chosen as a separate character in PM! Sure, he doesn't fit the "weaker" part of the bill, but he does match the demand for the desire to play as an end-boss.

I know I'm weird, but I really think it could work.

I could probably design a pretty metal character considering I just got kicked out of a PMS Skype group call for playing music. Apparently ez was lying when he told me that playing loud music was no excuse to not join the call.

Not quite, but depending on the focus there may be "groove combos" where hitting attacks to the beat will net bonuses from time to time.

Anyway, if you want in send me a message

Is this the same Touhou fighter that went to indiegogo? If so, that game was kinda fishing for licensing issues. :/
Nice to hear that they care enough to work around that though.

@ Saikyoshi Saikyoshi , I've always hoped that one of the clone engine slots would go to something of a Seth-style Master Hand/ Crazy Hand combo character. Obviously, they'd be downscaled and would have some sort of humanoid manikin to pull off Smash Character style attacks, but it would just feel REALLY badass to play as the "gods" of Smash Bros.

While I disagree with the humanoid part and feel he should be kept in the spirit of the Hands (feel free to ask about specific details I have in mind), yeah, that's pretty much the demand for it I was talking about.

Double posting is forbidden fyi. Just edit the previous one.

There is a perfectly good thread for that, random babbling, the Smash 4 Social Thread.

I've already reported my own double-post and did what I originally meant to.

And yes, I already know you see me as a less-than-worthless casual worm because I don't like what was done with Lucario. No need to rub it in my face.

I came up with a funny video idea, but I would need someone who does a good Kermit impression, most likely in real life, and a Kermit puppet
