The Clone engine is working now? Oh snap!
(Now I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for Mewtwo-- not to undermine this announcement in any way!)

That reveal video had me like

I just Knew Roy would be in but was not 100% sure...Man I am super hype for both Roy and knowing the Clone engine works. Now I want nothing for the best when it comes to Project M So i'm not going to ask For all kinds of characters with ideas on how to make them different... HOWEVER I must ask for Mewtwo..I mean come on..its only right lol If they add back both Roy AND Mewtwo...Holy ****.... Along with Stock Control, Stage Striking,Turbo mode, And possibly more in the future...I am no longer calling this just a Brawl mod/hack, This IS Smash 4!

Pretty sure Mewtwo will be in. The PMBR knows their fanbase pretty darn well. I'm just about as excited, though.

Unless they still haven't figured out how to add articles (or work around that limitation).

Those replace characters though, adding is an entirely different song and dance. Replacing one projectile with another is simple enough, but the last I checked adding an entirely new one is impossible. Maybe the PMBR has/will find a way to get past that restriction, but using the tools that we, the public, know they have it can't be done.

The way I thought they were doing it was by porting one character's properties to an empty moveset, and then replacing from there. Now I'm not sure, but is there any technical problem with that assuming the code allows for new slots?

Dmickolas calm down man. Take a step outside and get some air. I know Roy hype is too good for us all, but damn.
haha Sorry. I'm working on a project for P:M and this is my day to kind of absorb as much info as I can about clone engine possibilities; that and I just like responding to people. Should probably cool down a little. Thanks for pointing it out.

It was an honour to have been part of the team that developed Roy. Seeing him revealed today finally lets me talk about him in public :).

Is there any hope to see Doc decloned like Roy? As much as Mario has learned from Doc, I think it would be great to see his differences evolved upon. Stuff like his sex kick is to crazy NOT to see return with the man who put it on the table.
However, I was SO much more hype to see Roy again! We can finally end the Clone Engine questions. I can't wait to see what else is in store! (Nice to see the RSBE becoming standard as well. :3)

I think he's popular enough that it could happen. They'd probably make him a lot more extreme in his playstyle to really separate him from Mario, but it could still be undeniably him. They could really do some good work with his pills and other animations to make him stand out, too. Fire is a little too standard to get that impact with Roy, I think.

Oh, yeah; the RSBE must be what's giving him the SFX now. Glad users will have all the tools at their disposal to add content now (minus anything that requires a codeset overhaul).

I hope not, Mario has already inherited his strengths. I'd much rather see him return as a costume.

So would I (although he wouldn't have the pills or anything), but I think it might happen. All I was saying was if it does happen, they have the opportunity to do a good job of it.

So, what were the hints that yesterday's site update talked about? I thought I looked pretty hard, but I never saw anything that really implied OUR BOY would be back.

I hope not, honestly. I think there are way better choices than the non-vets and Dr. Mario.

It also depends on how many characters, both through the clone engine and total, that the game can handle.

Seriously so hyped for... whatever this version is called. I'm guessing we'll be seeing a near christmas release like last time.
Don't take my word for it though.

WOW!

First of all, congratulations! You guys have successfully created a clone engine and a sound engine. I did not expect to wake up this morning to such game-changing news. When I first started watching the trailer, I was confused by the castle as I was trying to think of who out of the unreleased characters would be revealed with a castle. Then I saw Ike and my confusion got more extreme. Then...I saw Roy.

I was sure it was a prank when I heard the Roy sound effects, saw the Roy character model, and practically felt the heat from his flaming sword. Did they scrap Olimar for Roy? Is it an optional download to replace Marth? It couldn't be the clone engine. But then I read the tiny print at the end of the video and I have had butterflies in my stomach ever since. Because as excited as I am to see Roy coming back (And he looks good), as a Melee Mewtwo main, I am more excited for the possibility that I could play as a buffed Mewtwo!!!!!!!!!!!!! :150:

I am left with some questions however (I understand that you might not want to answer them however due to wanting to surprise us):

1. Since I heard Roy has been in the works for years, is it safe to assume that Mewtwo has been in the works that long as well? Or should I cool my jets because Mewtwo hasn't been started yet and a completed Mewtwo is years away?
2. With the sound replacement engine being completed as well (HYPE!!), does this mean we will get such iconic sounds as Falcon's knee SFX (Bass!) and maybe replace some of Fox and Falco's sounds?
3. Should I dust off my Mewtwo suggestion list and can we start talking about Mewtwo considering he is now a possibility?
4. Since the next release appears to be 3.0, should we expect a full cast, or are there still coding/design problems with the unreleased non-clone-engine characters?
5. Is there anything you wizards can't do?

What's nice is that Ridley, Mega Man, Roy, and Mewtwo actually have announcer calls so they'll actually fit right in.

^ All of this

I really think they'll consider Mega Man if it doesn't have Nintendo suing the hell out of them. He's got everyone hyped for the next game; imagine that with balancing, a huge cast, and Sonic/Mewtwo, who I think are the most desired characters for SSB4 now. Things could get pretty crazy.
I don't think it should be Megaman, we should let SSB4 have some appeal on it's own, and Mewtwo is a given for want

I know I'll probably get a lot of flak for this and it's kind of tough to say, but honestly, when I look at brawlvault and all the rabid fans for this character there are, I think a lot of people would go nuts over Shadow[Sonic series] being added, he's already an AT, can base him off Sonic, has a huge fanbase, #1 hack on brawlvault, already has plenty of made-up movesets to work off of

Idk just a thought, would've said Cloud but he gets a lot of hate from Smash players because he was never on a Nintendo system, and we already have a lot of big sword characters

Regardless, you will all bow before my Roy....whenever the hell he's released

There's already some non-official stuff for that you can easily use. Just go to the customized content forums for P:M here.

I genuinely think that Mega Man will be done but I don't know about Ridley. I haven't seen any work on him, ever, while the rest have a good base or concept to go off of.

I think that the issue is that if we don't do anything to put him in a competitive environment now, it could be many years before something like P:M happens on the Wii U. Mewtwo is a given, though, yeah.

I like Shadow, but he's kind of bland and doesn't have any definable strengths that don't make him OP. Imagine making a cool balanced Shadow. It's pretty hard.

Yeah. haha There's enough of that, thank you.

I want to see Tails, it would be nice to have something reminiscent of the classic Sonic titles where he followed you around, and someone already worked on a moveset for him

I haven't looked at the PSAs that are out there, but I think Tails would be pretty interesting, too. He could kind of be like a combined Sonic/Pit character (which actually sounds pretty damn OP), able to use some weapons from a couple of the modern games, while still having spin-dashes and flying, too. Lots of coding, though.

Again while I am biased, I did mention before that only a few potential newcomers actually have announcer calls, and while this may be an arbitrary limitation for picking newcomers, it at least allows the team to add new characters without the stress of having to consider a massive number of possibilities.

Yeah, that's true. I think it actually is a pretty significant part of their decisions, though, since they want everything to be seamless. Who knows, though; they could have the technical skill to make really good fake ones without seeking out the announcer.
