SSBB, SPM, and a few other games, that have no smudges or scratches on them, make my wii have an error whenever they start up. Sometimes the console doesn't even read the disks but the system gets an error and tells me to turn it off. I just don't know what I should do.

All you games with infrequency, or only some of your games but every time?

Super Paper Mario and Super Smash Bros. Brawl have both stopped working. Every other game works just fine, consistently. Super Paper Mario and Super Smash Bros Brawl will either give me an error as soon as I start them up, or as soon as the console reads the disc. But they ahve just stopped working, and I have tried cleaning them and I have tried uplugging my console for five minutes, but it just is now refusing to play those games.

how many more games do u have on the wii which u actually can play? Just a number not the names.... cause if u CAN PLAY 5 or more the problem is propably the dual-layer disc errors people get from brawl and ull have to sent the wii to nintendo and they will fix it for free... (they have a special offer for this specific error since its mostly their fault, but if there is another prob then ull have to pay....) anw i dont know if super paper mario is dual-layered too so if u have only like 5 games in total or something and 3 are playing but the 2 arent it could be something else.... if u have many games and out of all of them only these 2 dont work its propably ur wii's lens outdated aka "Unable to read disc error" caused from the game i mentioned above

the Dual-layer reader is dirty, that's why it doesn't work it's very sensitive(it happened to me, lucky for me after a few weeks it worked again, I saved $80)
I'm not sure waiting would work again tho:laugh: it's safer to get it fixed

It might be the wii lens itself? You can buy a cleaning kit were you just put it in your wii and it cleans the lens for you. They are only about $10 AU a pack. They are supplied by nintendo themselfs.

Thanks...?

Anyway, I got the idea from the "Is it a Good Idea to Microwave This?" series on Youtube.

The only problem here is that you bought a Wii.
I would assume everyone in this entire website owns a wii.

It is a smash website, and the wii has the ability to play any gamecube game, so even people who hate the system probably keep one around to play melee.

Complete backward compatibility FTW.

The accident was just a joke, I caught it on fire purposely.
Yes, buying a Wii is a problem.

if buying a wii is a problem then i say u havent played brawl................Yes, buying a wii is a problem.
I have a Wii and a copy of Brawl. All I can say about Brawl is "meh". I haven't played my Wii for about a year now. It sits there all dusty and lonely looking...

Unless the problem with buying a wii is finding one.

Then I can understand what the problem is.
No, it's still sad that Nintendo cannot produce enough Wiis even though it was released more than 2 years ago. I have no problems finding a 360/PS3 at any electronic store.

I'll stick with my Gamecube to play Melee, thanks.

That old toy?

I can appreciate that you are annoyed with the current market, but from the position of zero bias, the wii is superior to the gamecube in every way. That is because it has the exact same capabilities of the gamecube, plus the new games, plus the downloadable pre-gamecube era games. Functionally speaking, there is nothing the gamecube can do that the wii can't.

There is no reason to have a gamecube if one has a wii; in fact, if you sell your gamecube you'll at least get a few bucks while still being able to play your entire gamecube library.

LOL. Not in graphics. Everyone knows that the Wii is basically 2 gamecubes duct-taped together. Only a small percentage of Wii games (First party mind you) have "good" (I guess for Wii standards...) graphics while the rest is just crap/shovel ware.

Why would I want to download gamecube games? Nintendo is re-releasing old gamecube games...but with wiimote controls!!! WOOOAHHH!!!!!!

The gamecube had better games.

Your point doesn't make much sense, nor does it counter mine.

Why would I want to download gamecube games?
This statement is in contradiction to reality, in that it assumes a false premise as the basis for the formation of the question. Namely, it assumes that the wii's backward compatability functions in a manner that is in contradiction to fact.

Functionally speaking, there is no difference between a wii and a gamecube when playing gamecube games on the Wii. The Wii reads gamecube disks exactly like a gamecube, has the same number of memory card slots and gamecube controller ports, and uses a gamecube controller when a gamecube game is played. In addition, it is not possible to download gamecube games onto a Wii.

Thus, even if you hate every wii game to date, there would be no reason to use the gamecube instead, because the wii can be used as a gamecube.

The graphics for the Wii are possibly greater or still equal to the Gamecube.

But in terms of functionality, online capability, user interface, its vastly surperior to the cube.

What the Wii lacks is a excellent game that makes use of all its features. People here would possibly argue for; Twilight Princess, Metriod Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy -- But I'd have to say that No More Heroes is the only really good game on the Wii at the moment.

Wii is still fairly new. You all know, just as much as I do, that games take time to develop. Good titles just wont appear on the Wii for months to come.

But theres also this issue of how developers have to program around using the Wii mote. They use to be able to port the games over all 3 systems [Xbox, PS] cant do that so easily now with how the Wii mote is.

You know, if you're not into Galaxy and Twilight Princess, there really is no reason to own a wii.

People buy Nintendo for Nintendo. 3rd party support has always been terribad for Nintendo products, and if of all the games on the wii, the only one that you like in No More Heroes, you might want to consider buying an Xbox 360.

That said, make sure to buy Madworld if you liked No More Heroes. Although I haven't tried No More Heroes yet, I know enough about the system to be sure that MadWorld is the only game coming out on the Wii this year comparable to No More Heroes. And if you didn't like Galaxy and Twilight Princess, then the only games for the system for you would be No More Heroes, No More Heroes 2, and Madworld.

The opposite is true as well. If you're ONLY playing Gamecube games, there is no reason to play the Wii rather than the Gamecube. Actually, the Gamecube is superior to that because it's easier to position. The Wii can get knocked over if you're using wired controllers, and if the system moves like that while it's playing a disk it can grind it, which is not good. The Gamecube is stable at the normal position.

I have little to no use for the Wii. There's a few games that I play every so often. WiiWare is practically useless save for Cave Story (if/when it ever comes out) for me. I own every console on the Virtual Console except for the Turbografix-16. I use my Wii anyways, but that's because I have 10 consoles and I need to save space, and the Wii is slightly smaller than the Gamecube.

First of all, fix'd.

Second of all, the biggest appeal of the Wii to me is the Gamecube games part, which the Gamecube has as well. Which is why I fixed that on the Gamecube.

For the most part the downloadable games seem no better than some of the gimmicky third-party titles on the regular Wii. Also, "downloadable" in and of itself is a trade-off -- I prefer to actually OWN my games, not just the right to play them. The same goes for the retro games, and after hooking up Super Metroid on my SNES and then doing the same on my Wii (I bought it on Wii before I bought my SNES), the Wii actually looks worse. The sound doesn't seem quite right either. So, the retro games > the Wii's version of them, especially since you can't even get all of them or even a LOT of them on Wii. I know Earthbound has good reasons for not being on VC yet, but it's still not there and you can have it for SNES. And yes it's expensive, but you can still physically get it for SNES.

SD Card support is a useless style of storage, as we've seen thus far. The most useful thing it's done is give us homebrew, which is pretty useful.

Messaging has personally annoyed me because it didn't get things to my friends when I needed them to get there, and it allowed one of my friends to send me about 45 messages at once at least 3 times. Needless to say it was annoying.

The internet is readily available on computers and all sorts of devices. It's slightly useful on the Wii but in the end it's more efficient on other platforms anyways.

I still think there's a contest there. The Wii is only slightly better in general, and it's really not any better for me.

To be blunt -

Only a wii bashing fanboy could prefer the gamecube to the wii; this is because the wii is simply much more practical to own than the gamecube. There is NO reason (that you mentioned) to even own a gamecube once you own a Wii, no matter how you feel about the Wii's crappy library or online features, EVEN if the only function of your Wii is to play gamecube games. This is because at the very least, the Wii's disk spinning motor is newer than the gamecube's, and thus, the hardware will last longer than the gamecube hardware.

Practical? The GC can take a hell more of a beating than the Wii, in my experience. I've dropped my GC too many times but it still works like a charm. Not to mention you have to lug the **** sensor bar around to even navigate the menu on a Wii. On the Wii you have to wait for a warning about seizures on startup, then go the menu and wait for the disk to be read, then click start just to start playing. For the GC all you do is turn that baby on and boom, you're playing Melee.

EDIT: and the GC has a handle, what can get better than that?

You mean prefer the Gamecube to the Wii. And no, I disagree, but I'll get into that later...

Yeah, this is actually very wrong. If only for one thing; collecting, anyone? I have a GBA and a GBASP; I have an original Game Boy and a GBC. I guess I should get rid of the older ones, right? No. I actually got my GBO about a decade after I got my GBC, which was very recently.

I hate the Wii, yes, but I like the Gamecube better than the Wii as a console. It really does annoy me that the Wii is precarious stood up and lying down it's awkward and hard to use Wavebirds. Not that it's the only reason, but it bugs me. And as was said in another topic, Action Replay. There's Homebrew for Wii, which I have, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work with Gamecube games. Even if it does, Gamecube Action Replay is MUCH easier to use than Homebrew.

For that matter, I guess I'm a DS-bashing fanboy if I'd prefer to play GBA games on the GBA? Or maybe it would be that the GBA is far more comfortable than the DS.

I don't intend to get rid of my Gamecube. I'd probably sooner get rid of my Wii. Call it stupid if you want; I'm not changing my mind. I'm a retro geek. Even if Gamecube was only last generation, I still feel better playing things on the original system.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and this.

I was hanging out with one of my friends and brought my Wii. Yeah, I forgot the sensor bar so we couldn't even play the Gamecube games I brought. So even if you're just playing Gamecube, you need at least two accessories to use it.
Oh yeah, and you can't do the awesome
ly useless
easter egg on the Wii where you hold Z while you turn the console and it makes the weird noise.

And yes. The handle is win. I know even Nintendo Power thinks they're funny by saying "OAW LAWL THAT HANDULL WAS STOOPID, IZ WIY TEH GAYMCYUB FAYLED!" but they're not. I know the handle isn't entirely useful, but I've transported my Wii. Although I wouldn't actually have to transport it so much if the storage system were actually half-decent.

I wasn't really a member of the gamecube era, so I'm not very familiar with the games, etc.

I grew up with the older systems and moved onto XBOX and Playstation 2 during the last generation.

But, it's kind of funny to see it so well defended when it kinda bombed back than, people didn't seem to like the gamecube much.

I do have one, but with only a few games.

I always loved it. >_>

I spent the entire last generation defending it, which is why, if you're wondering, I take such offense to Nintendo's new policy of "Screw hardcore gamers!"
