Unfortunately, all of these candidates have swords. Swords were a bit over powered in Melee (at least Marth’s was). Hopefully with Brawl and the onslaught of new swordmen, swordplay will be balanced.

Everyone stop about this first comment thing already -__- It’s pointless.

Anyway, I wonder if there will be more Fire Emblem characters… It’s already a mystery if marth and Roy are returning. It depends on how big the roster will be this time…. In Melee they managed to keep all the old characters, plus many new ones… Maybe this time it will go up to 30, or even 40, but that’s really a maximum. If either Marth or Roy returns, PLUS Ike, I don’t think there’ll be any other FE character. Not a big enough series for that, only Mario manage to have more than 2 or 3 characters from a serie. Or maybe Zelda… They’ll try and keep room for more characters…

Krystal is pretty possible tough… But forget about the FF characters… period…

And I wondered about a thing, it would be cool if in Brawl, alternate costumes would act a little as clones, without being real characters. I explain; 1.Mario, 2.Paper Mario, 3.Dr. Mario, 4. NES Mario? I dunno, it probably won’t happen because many characters don’t have so many incarnations… They will probably delete the clones in Brawl, or revamp them, like Ganondorf for example, who for once will probably be a heavy swordman, thanks to Twilight Princess…

Birdo along with Toad and stuff are kind of… Too much simple characters to be full playable characters… Theyre not much different from Hammer Bros for exemple so expect nearly every of those to be Assist Trophies.

Listen. I hate Marth with a freaking passion.

If Lucia somehow had the same powers as Marth, I would be ticked off, but not as much because she’s got the looks for the powers XD

In any case, a female from the Fire Emblem series might join in for the place of Roy, since Ike could clearly be Marth’s replacement.

BTW - Swords are always cool. I’d take those instead of guns anyday ^^

What’s wrong about Marth? He’s one of my top 3 characters. His design was nice too. I really hope he’ll come back, and contrary to Jigglypuff or the Ice Climbers, I can’t see why people would hate him… What’s your reason, Rockin? o.o

To be honest i would hate if Birdo was a playable character =| i just dont like that pink big mouthed biAtch =/ [dont ask me why] …she should just be a Assist trophy! =|
I like toad but i think mario universe allready have sooo many characters i would prefer some more from other series like zelda, FE, Starfox.. I wouldnt mind if Midna or Crystal were in the game. Maybe with the assist trophys some of those characters that didnt quite make it could still apear in the game.

I’m sure there will be LOTS of Assist Trophies…. and of really random characters too XD Tom Nook will never make it as a character… I mean, he’s not a fighter, and does he even have one move? o_O Assist Trophy I say. I really wonder about Midna….. She can’t possibly ignore her popularity but either she’ll be paired with Wolf Link as an unlockable character, or she’ll be an assist Trophy……… Assit Trophies are such a cool idea :D The perfect way for fans to be happy that their characters somehow make it to the game. If Sonic is in, pray with me that Shadow is either a alternate outfit or an assist Trophy.

Rockin - Many, many, reasons. For one, I play Peach. You know by me saying that, I have a auto hate for him.

The tips of his sword is really annoying, even though it’s difficult to play with him. He could do more damage with it. Not to mention that his wavedash is pretty impressive, so he’s quick on motivbility. All of his movesets could open up to lots of mindgames. He’s really annoying to face with. Also, he’s by far, one of the toughest characters to face against. Especially with a Peach.

Also, he’s a pretty boy with a tiara. A metrosexual like him isn’t suppose to have such powers (Except Sephiroth, who’s godly XD)

I just hate his chances of winning in a match. if the woman Lucia acts like Marth in some way….

…I’d be less pissed because she’s sexy. women + swords = FTW XD

Seriously, I have nothing TOO much against Marth. It’s just I really hate the matchup &gt;

In fact, you don’t hate him, you just have a hard time beating him XD Well if that’s the case, just master him o.o I love him better than Roy because it’s less tricky to hit with the tip of the sword, +he’s faster+ he can meteor people real bad :D But yeah, a female swordwoman in the game would kick ass :D

and neoREgen, you forgot a potential female in your list, and one that actually has a chance of being playable or at least an assist: Kumatora from Mother 3.

Lucia, actually that would probably be cooler than Marth. But what route is Sakurai going to take. If he goes more modern and excludes older landmarks, then Marth is history. However Pit and the Halberd have proven this false to a point. I still believe Marth will be in brawl. I don’t think too many Fire emblem characters will be in brawl due to its slightly lower popularity and profit margin. I would hope Lin makes it in. She was the star of her fire emblem.

swords wont be overpowered in brawl i believe from screen shots i have seen that links new f smash is similars 2 marths in melee in a screen shot u c zeldas f smash nd links fsmash collide nd it looks like it kinda cancles out if u c hte screenshot so i think they wont b overpowered but swords will always be an avantage 4 the spacing factor nd range

In Melee, a good sword was a complete shut out for priority. If swords are in brawl (which they are) they need to have more drawbacks.

That’s similar to the idea i had for a Lancer character. Because swords are uber, and lances are even longer than swords, how would they make it balanced?

Simple. They make the lance like Warios Bike. They get one per stock, and the opponents can disarm them, and do away with their weapon.

Think, the Dark Knight/Nut from Twilight Princess. When his armor was broken off, he threw his sword and used a smaller quicker style.

I think it would be really cool if Ike can drop his blade. they could give him acool move too where he welds another in case it falls off the stage) Also though making the character like link could fit well (seeing he uses more than just sword swipes). Lets just hope sakurai sees the unbalanced sword element.

hmmm lets see.. more female characters.. we have Toadette from the Mario universe =o from pokemon we have the female protagonists.. from zelda we have Impa! From Dk series we have candy kong and that skinny diddykong girlfriend… Adeleine from kirby series, and from metroid… hmmm maybe mother brain! lool Some of this characters dont really fit the profile for a brawl character but anyway i would mind if mother broin popped out from a assist trophy lol

Kirby Kid - with great pwnage, comes great smashers as well :D

Also, I don’t think swords were ever really overpowered. The only thing that seperated Link from Marth was that his sword had a ability. That ability was that at the tip of the sword, you’d do more damage. If they cut that ability off, Swords would be no more then longer ranged instead of broken or overpowered.

Control is everything. Marth’s tip is all about control whether he’s controlling you to die, or to stay close so he can kill you later.

Swords are also disjointed. Unlike legs, arms, or other ranged appendages, there’s no way to hurt a swordsman if you only hit their sword.

These are large advantages.
