First, let me just say hi to the AE community. I've been a long time art obsess-ee, and I wanted to post here more often.

So anyhow, I had been trying to expand my horizons by learning digital art, since traditional wasn't cutting it for me. So on that premise, I purchased a tablet online.

However, I didn't get along too well with digital art, and so I sort of left my tablet to the dust... however, I recently started using it again, since winter is starting up and I don't want to be bored at home when the snows come. But, being the scatterminded person I am, I lost my stylus, and I don't know where I could get a new one. Any suggestions?

It's a VisTablet, original VT12, by the way. I contacted the manufacturer but they weren't much help. :C I've also looked around online, but to no avail. double:C

Ebay, Amazon, or you can even try the manufacturer. (Although I see you tried that.. haha)

Also if it works like any other tablet, you can get any stylus meant for a tablet really... :x

I've also only just recently been using my tablet I got 2 years ago. i wish I actually put in the money for a larger one though... =\ small ones suck and only make you want to upgrade it's size at a later time..

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Yeah, I think I'm going to try and get myself a "generic" stylus if that'll work... It's just I'm a digital art newbie and so I have no considerable knowledge on the inner workings of tablets. I sort of assumed only specific styluses work with specific tablets, ha ha.

Welcome to AE, yo.

Hey, I just read that thread on Darkstar. You know, my fear of theft of my art is so strong, I haven't gone and released my comic like I want because I don't have copyrights.

I'm worried for myself. :/

Make a watermark, Zio. I use dA's watermarks on pictures i really like/make my own.
It's a good way to avoid theft.

If you make a dA and submit an art it adds a copyright to that user. Not exactly super-legally-legit but it's enough to actually sue over copyright infringement in some cases. So it holds up.

People have been sued and rendered totally ****ed financially and such due to stealing art off of dA [although it's usually posting it as their own on their profile that causes the legal issues]

So I always try to post anything I care about on dA beforehand. Also they will help you with off-site rippers (art thefts) and try to handle situations where art is stolen.

I also avoid the use of watermarks because to me it ruins the image. I want people to be able to appreciate the art in it's original form. So unless I'm putting the art up for sale (or plan to make a profit from the art) I don't add a watermark.

BUT THATS JUST ME. I actually do encourage the use of watermarks. :x

I suppose, but that doesn't prevent folks from taking the design, changing it up or something, or just takin my content (story and whatnot) for themselves.

Without a copyright, watermarks can only do so much. I don't just do pictures. I have a story and characters with backgrounds too.

I have the dream of making a successful comic franchise. Like that dude who did Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

Actually, it does prevent them from doing that if you can prove it's yours and that you didn't give consent. But it also has to be similar enough to the original work. As far as characters go, I don't even think you can fully copyright it.... AFAIK I can go draw Iron Man, and as long as I can prove it's my original work I'm allowed to sell it and such... not sure if I can sell T-shirts with my design on it, but I can sell the drawings. [I need to look into how far/precise the copyright laws are]

As far as story content, it depends how far they steal it. But even with an "official" copyright, they can still take the content and switch it up just a littttle bit. No matter how much fame you have or if you have a copyright, people will still do that. But you have to see it in a way that, they want to emulate you in a hope of their own success. Very rarely do they actually improve upon it and injure your success.

Also all OC's are copyrighted to a certain extent, but obviously there are almost always close mimics (it's hard to truly make an original OC nowadays that doesn't look like anyone else and is pretty unique...=\ I see soooo many that reminds me of like 30 other OC's everytime I see one)

But it's your art, and if you don't feel comfortable who am I to try to convince you otherwise? =P So I understand your concern and I'll drop my argument here. ^^;

//plans to be setting up an art shop with my cousin. Drawings, Digital colors/paintings, and T-shirts. So I've researched into copyright laws a bit

I just saw that thread about Darkstar. I knew something was up when he said his "best" picture was something flat and unoriginal :/

...

@Zio: Watermarks do help a lot for preventing the actual image being stolen. As for ideas and such, anyone who publishes or posts online is risking someone taking their idea and tweaking it. Basically, if you don't share it at all there's absolutely no chance of it becoming famous xD

Well, that's good to hear.

So, what would you suggest I do? I want to begin via WEBcomic, since that seems to be the best was to gain the attention I need in this country of the USA.

Something like http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/index2.php. While I'll be taking a black and white approach, though. Is that under copyright, susa?

I don't quite understand what you mean by if that's under copyright. :x

As far as designs go, many are offered (see; Myspace Default Layouts people can choose from) and many sites offer premade layouts like that for people to use.

I usually create my own, just to be safe.

KD Layout 3
Scrapped layout

My first layout was a simplistic web 3.0, it was hosted on my site but I lost my hosting so I didn't bother renewing my URL and so that's down. :x

[Lighttodark = WTC117 = Me.... I switched accounts due to the whole name issue BS and feel free to note either account if you want proof. lol ]

But yeah... safest bet is making your own, or using a premade.

Also use as many sources as possible. WEBcomic, dA, or even get your own hosting/url and have your own site. (I'd do this once you start getting a decent following TBH)

Speaking of SAI - maybe I'll give it a shot and DL it in the near future.

*Not admitting I already have a tab opened to the SAI website right this second*

Not menacing enough - make the eyes black, turn the skin white, make the hair light gray.

I mean, that is what I would do.

Well fine.

Though, I don't disagree. Plagiarizing is simply unacceptable.

I just think "smiley drama" is the most hilarious thing ever. xD

^Same :'(

I still have yet to finish a picture since August. I have two sketches/half finished things laying around though (which I haven't touched for a week.) Gonna post one here so maybe I'll have some motivation to finish it.

There's so much wrong with it xD I'm gonna try to fix her breasts and her butt.

Second only to Tsubaki's hat.

Her bum is a bit low tbh
Samus's rear is like, super sculpted, it's ridiculous really.

Nintendo has been very keen on thrusting it in my face for the past two years or so.
By this point I could probably guess her bra size.
