PMRank 2019: The Edge of Glory

Greetings one and all to the opening of the fourth annual ranking of Project M's top 50 players, PMRank 2019! We are very excited to begin unveiling this year's rankings, but first we want to acknowledge a player who very nearly missed out on a top 50 spot. This player showcases an uncommon character along with their rare skill, and we hope this taste of what's to come will only build greater expectations of the competitors on the horizon.

Christopher “~CP9~” Williams grabbed national attention this year piloting the scarcely used and seldom understood Olimar to new heights. Currently residing in the MD/VA region, ~CP9~ has travelled to several marquee East Coast events such as Blacklisted 5, where he netted a win against Aidan of PMRank 2018 fame. Much of the rest of his year was more modest thanks to losses at the hands of GodTouch, Anthony, Motobug, and fellow Olimar player Dotcom, but ~CP9~ closed out the year on a high note at Lazer Lazer 20, where he bested Florida’s TomBoComBo and Illinois’ Ripple. His crisp powershields and surprising agility even led him to take a game against Switch before landing him at 5th place. ~CP9~ may not have achieved a top 50 spot in 2019, but if his dogged character loyalty and contagious laughter are any indication, he has no plans to slow down in 2020.

It is going to be interesting to see how the PM Rankings are for this year, especially since Project + came out at June with some new balance changes.

This year also had less big events in comparison to last year, so we may see more underdog picks in this year's rankings.
