I have a fondness for blues and purples (obviously), and those are usually the alts I opt for when I play. I use blue Ness and blue Lucas because those are pretty much guaranteed to be in every game no matter what and I also like consistency. But nowadays it's all boiling down to preference from character to character. Still mostly blues, purples...I gotta say, I LOVE Blue Hat Ness in this game. The white and lilac look so great.

In Brawl I used Claus colored Lucas. In Smash 4 I might used Masked Man shirt or Boney or some other not revealed color. It's possible I'll stick with Claus colors though. Generally I like black color schemes if I had to pick a costume, though there are times where there are other colors preferred. However, I usually stick with default.

I love it. I think it's because Boney is generally considered the weakest party member and it would be easy for people to hate him, but the whole thing with the pickles gives you a bit of play time with him and it's so cute and adorable that you end up loving him more.

The more I think about Mother 3 the more ideas come up in my head. Couple spoilers so chucking this in collapse tags:

Things like the memory cruise near the end of the game. You can tell Porky has this fascination of the world he came from and that he left, and at first you're supposed to feel engulfed in those memories too. But you also have to remember that you're seeing all of these things under Porky's control, you realise that he's taking the Nowhere Islands you knew and loved and turning them into this monument to Earthbound - and as much as we love Earthbound, we also want Tazmily to go back to being peaceful and beautiful. I think it's very possible that the memory cruise shows how Porky has taken Earthbound's world - which seriously is awesome - and, for that very reason, tried to make Nowhere Islands something similar, something inspired by his past (also he's wanting to destroy the world and stuff so that plays into how he creates NPC).

I think it, and NPC itself also show why society can't really be run by children without being seriously changed - A child's perception of the world is fundamentally different to an adult's, the things a child doesn't need might as well be scenic - and what's more scenic-yet-useless than the cardboard buildings in NPC? In fact, the only things you can access there are things a kid would be interested in - a theme park (maybe), an arcade, a movie theatre, a tree-house-ish-thing... I mean, of course this moral is very obvious, but I like how it's put out there exactly to show us how Porky is so misguided.

I am very much the same. I love many of the alts but almost never use them. It's almost like I feel as though I feel more connected to the 'original' version of the character.

In Brawl I had like, one exception, which was ZSS, I would usually use her black outfit.

In smash 4 I don't really have any exceptions (I rarely use ZSS in Smash 4).

That said, I do love many of the palette swaps. My favourite for Ness is probably still Mr. Saturn T-shirt. For Lucas, definitely Boney shirt, but most of the others are really great as well.

My brother, on the other hand, loves alts. He usually goes gothic colours for most characters. A few notable picks for him are Old Manondorf, Captain Fabulous (pink falc), Hippie Knight, pink shirt Lucas, Mr. Saturn Ness (in 64 it was bumblebee Ness), clouded helmet Olimar, black dress Rosaluma (I think?), Dark Pit Pit (in Brawl obviously), white DK... you get the idea.

I restarted pretty much my entire game so I could go back and get Ness's YoYo once I realised I couldn't go back into the room after I'd left it. It was absolutely worth it.

My favorite part is that if you show the yoyo to a Pigmask, or the Masked Man, or Porky while in a fight, they applaud for you. It's a nice touch.

I'm actually in NPC's sewers now (After spending like an hour running around looking ). Just having a little trouble with the boss. :/

I didn't, but that's because I spent quite a long time in the sewers farming off the critters there. Seriously, the hot spring is so conveniently located next to the baddies, you can level up soooo quickly in there. I'd suggest doing that for a while if you're having trouble. Iirc I actually got PK Ground in there on my first playthrough because of my grinding, and it wasn't even that hard (but granted I'd been grinding before that as well, just before the sixth needle for obvious reasons). :3

I've only tried once, but I lost partly because I had no idea what shields and such to put up, and because Lucas and Boney were poisoned and I ate up my PP using PK Love Omega on enemies beforehand. I didn't know a boss was coming up. :/

A while back I saw a tiny bit of a playthrough of M3, and it just so happened to be where they encountered that boss. Realising I knew the spot, I prepared myself for it quite thoroughly hahaha.

Hmm, kind of. I think they're connected in a lot of subtle ways. I'll go through the ones I can think of:

- Telephones: M1/EB
- Baseball bat: M1/EB/M3
- Red cap: M3 nodding to EB/M1
- Porky's memory cruise/other Porky 'reminiscent' stuff: less subtle; M3/EB obviously
- The song 'Time Passage': more or less the only thing linking just M3 and M1 but not EB.
- Hotel / Shop themes: links here and there in all 3 Mother games (even in M3 Porky's stereo in the playroom has a remix of both tracks)
- Antagonists are linked: Giegue = Giygas, Pokey = Porky
- Protagonist's dog: all 3 games
- Happy (American-style) family: EB/M1
- Some form of railway/public transportation system: All 3 games, moreso M1 and M3 as they both have the railway system
- Recurring enemies such as Arachnid!(!!) and Mooks: All 3 games
- 16 melodies: biggest nod to M1 and EB that M3 could ever give, almost!
- Most of the conversations with staple characters in M1 and EB are roughly the same, if refined a little, such as interacting with mum, dad and a sister; you'll find they say similar things across the two games.
- Connections to music: M1/EB obviously, but I also suspect M3 references it through the needles and the magypsies who are named after musical scales.
- The yoyo: All 3 games, I'm pretty sure Ninten can use yoyos in M1
- Game over screen: Definitely M1 and EB, mayyybe M3?
- American food that serves as healing - All 3, but especially M1 and EB (Hamburgers are such a staple early item in both)

Some of these are direct references like the OST ones, others are more abstract nods or re-used symbols that I think suggest links. The Mother series is strange in that it does an almost Final Fantasy-like thing where it uses different scenarios and protagonists every time, but wants to assure you they're in the same universe and doesn't want to be seen as a spiritual trilogy. It's funny how it does that.

Pokey is still totally nuts and crazy but he still somehow can see Ness as an old friend, and that made me a bit sad. But I didn't cry, because of The Rule, obviously.

Returning Techs :D

PKT Sliding (Pretty big deal in Brawl imo)

PK Fire with Ness has a slight wavebounce (This is done by using special stick, C stick does specials)

Lucas has a fast PK Fire, so his will be better, but the point is that these 2 techs are in the game through his "alike" customs.

Keep in mind, Lucas's customs for Ness are not the same, but very similar.

Magnet pulling could not be done with Ness, and neither could footstool -> magnet -> jab lock.

Wether or not Lucas can is looking kinda bad, but his momentum functioned a lot differently with his specials so we'll see.

Have you tried with PSI Vaccum? I could have swore it Jab locked at low percents..

It's important to keep in mind that while Ness's custom side-special is similar to Lucas's in theory, in practice they're two entirely different animals (at least, comparing it to Brawl, as we have not much to go on in Smash 4). Ness's custom travels at pretty much the same speed and angle as Lucas's old one did, as well as having the same on-hit effect, but it still has the same amount of startup lag, end lag, and landing lag as Ness's normal PK Fire which gives it poor application.

In Brawl, a lot more was different about Lucas's PK Fire than just the angle and the damage. It was quicker, both to startup and to end, making it a spammable useful approach/retreat option. But I think its most useful feature was the momentum changes it gave you. PK Fire changed Lucas's momentum in the air a lot, which let him do crazy magnet pull shenanigans and the Zap Jump--both of which, combined with the Rope Snake and his good PK Thunder, made his recovery pretty strong. It also could be utilized with wavebouncing and b-reversing to mix up his walls somewhat (part of the reason why I liked Lucas a lot in Brawl--some of his play seemed deeper than Ness). In the DLC trailer, you can sort of see evidence that this is returning; in the shots where he's using it, you can see him slide back slightly, which he did in Brawl. But there's no telling how useful the move will be until we can see its actual attributes on Lucas. Using Ness's customs to speculate will only get us so far.
