...Umm, what source are yo getting this from because I haven't heard any confirmation about that. Also, I disagree and say there is much to complain about. DP getting in as a character rather than an alt for Pit while a more unique/ more wanted character could've reserved that spot instead.

....................Still doesn't change that Sakurai wasted all of his basic potential.
I guess it's better than Lucina, who's only playstyle differences from Marth are being slightly shorter and not having a tipper, but that doesn't change the fact that Sakurai could've gone all out with Dark Pit, throwing in a couple of Powers like Palutena and using the weapons from Uprising like Pit in a combination-type thing, but no, just another moveset clone.

Look, I'll just say it, I loved the clones in Melee, namely Young Link and Pichu, but with Dark Pit? the main argument against him is that he's a clone, and now it's true, and if there's one thing I hate, it's being put in the wrong when I know I'm right. Dark Pit could've easily been a semi-clone, and as the worst case scenario SHOULD have been a Semi Clone, but instead he's full-on clone with very little difference.

Geez, at least Dr. Mario's gonna have electric attacks and his pills and likely the Mario Tornado down special........

Masahiro Sakurai everbody. Murdering all my hopes and dreams for Smash 3DS one by one. At least we still have Replays and Final Smashes.........

...Because Pittoo literally IS a clone of Pit. Give them both the same weapon in Uprising

No, however that's because we control them and the team didn't want to make Dark Pit play any differently from Pit. It's like Sonic and Shadow. Just because they play the same in one game doesn't mean they are exactly the same skill-wise. Shadow uses Chaos Control in all sorts of ways and Sonic just has speed.

On their own they fight and move completely differently.

Clones always get the most flak in the end, so it's not surprising.

Anyone who minimally knows about development knows that clones like Lucina and Dark Pit are not initially planned and are made based on already done assets. In this case, it seems both Lucina and Dark Pit were meant to be alts for Marth and Pit, but were given their own spots due to extra time.

Their assets as alts (models, animations and voice clips) were already done, so all that was necessary was to tweak a few things, including attack proprieties and perhaps give some new animation to add as much personal flair as possible. Lucina's taunts are very much in-character, for example.

I mean, the clones being blatantly separated from their respective franchises tells a lot about their status as later additions.

He's definitely got his own taunts, and maybe a few of his animations will differ, but otherwise I won't get my hopes up. Sakurai has FAILED with some of the content in Smash 3DS. I'm still holding out for Stage Builder, but I doubt Sakurai thought of that.

Oh, I'm sure he thought of everything that was in past games.

3DS seems to have a lot of VS. options missing, so I'm guessing a lot of stuff from older games not
on 3DS may be on the Wii U.

I'm pretty neutral on Dark Pit in general. He's not a character I was exactly clamoring for but at the same time I find his presence mostly harmless in the grand scheme of things. I'm not particular bothered by the clones nearly as much as some people have with them. Given their unsual position on the roster. I'd say it was heavily likely that the decisions in regards to Lucina, Dark Pit, and Doctor Mario probably took place around the same time.

I can't recall exactly but during Melee I think Sakurai same something in regards to being able to created like 5 or 6 clones in the span of what it would take for a more original character. If that is assumed to be correct it assumed the three were probably developed in a very short amount of time, probably far too short to do something more complex.

I thought that the clones were put in the corner so that you wouldn't accidentally get them mixed up for who they are cloned.
I mean, Dark Pit and Pit look exactly the same, as do Dr. Mario and Mario and Lucina and Marth.
On a small CRTV screen I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
But now I know that all the clones are in the corner.

Tried both Pit and Dark Pit in succesion to feel the difference and it's there alright, so that's good to know. Only a quick test but they felt like less clones in their neutral game than Mario / Dr. Mario for example.
