Pitfall!

We get a new item today, and it’s the Pitfall item from Animal Crossing. In the game, pitfalls were these little balls that you’d bury in the ground and then trick your friends, or push animals into them, and they’d end up stuck in the ground, and in Brawl, it’s no diferent (except you don’t need a shovel)

The item’s fairly basic, as you throw it, item hits the ground and vanishes. Then when some sucker steps on it…

That’s not the end of it though. If you get hit with it when it’s in the air, you’ll go through any “pass-through” platforms. It would be safe to assume, though not confirmed, if you’re on normal ground and hit by this, you’ll get the stuck effect too.

I like the idea of being able to lay invisible traps… Seems like a freezie/motion sensor combo.

I’m just happy to see the item making it’s way into smash. I loved pitfalls in AC, use to make war zones with them and have a shovel to shovel fight with my brother to knock each other in them.

Has anyone noticed that this is only the second game themed item in brawl so far. Everything else was made up. Actually Sakurai is making up a lot of things for this game rather then rely on actual games for inspiration.

I cant’ wait to use the pitfall in Brawl.

In AC, I had a neighbor that id didn’t like. So whenever I was on, i would put pitfalls in a row across his house so that he couldn’t leave or go in without falling.

I wonder how long you’re stuck in the pit for?

Okay last reply, look at the third, last, picture. It shows bowser going through the platform. But the dirt around him looks thick to me. Which makes me wonder if you sink through the platform quickly or slowly.

And does sinking itself do any damage?

Yoshi’s “throw an item” animation is the same as his “throw an egg” animation from Yoshi’s ISLAND!!!!!!

Tom Nook will be playable. When you unlock him his 2 nephews will replace him in Smashville, simple. Either that or in Smashville that isn’t tom nook or he will just disapear from smashville when unlocked.

I suppose that makes sense, Kinnikuman. I figured there was going to be an Animal Crossing chracter the moment I saw AC had its own symbol, but it seems like kind of a waste to me.

Although, truth be told, I never played Animal Crossing, it’s hardly what I’d think of when mining elements for a fighting game. I mean, Captain Falcon isn’t from a game that easily translates to fighting either, but Animal Crossing is just sooo cutesy and nonviolent.

I dunno. Sakurai pimping this item and that stage reminds me of when I was little and my mom had to bribe me with toys to get me to play with my baby brother.

Man all this speculation about the game.. i can’t wait to play it.. This reminds me the first time i saw the smash melee videos on the internet and i was so amezed by the game and couldnt take the wait to play it…
oh man.. time runs by.. lol and now the same think with brawl! Maybe in a few years maybe i will see my children waithing for another smash game too and i will have so many deja vus at the same time my head will expload.. =O lool

Well…when you think about it, the AC stage needs it’s own icon, otherwise what would its icon be, the Smash icon? who knows if they’re making a AC character, it just doesnt seem possible to me…

On second thought, it probably works like a Motion Sensor Bomb in the sense that it hits you like an item would, hurting you. Then falls to the ground.

what do bells look like? you only ever see the bags, dont you? any ways, what about one of the gate guards as a character? or maby one of the cousins? although nook would make the best character and resetti could be an A.T. you know he could pop up and yell at an opponent for a few seconds and then they’d be stunned for a while, you know?

Personally, I don’t think there’s going to be an AC character, just Sakurai recognised AC is a big series (Way bigger in Japan, it got it’s own movie) and so is giving us a Stage, and now an Item, to recognise the Franchise.

There is no reason why there HAS to be any AC character.

I agree completely with Mic, A animal crossing stge does not signify a stage. i actually hope he does the same with characters because F-Zero does not need a stage. How do you make a good brawl stge on a race track?

I highly doubt there will be an Animal crossing character. A stage and an item does not gurantee that. everybody brings up the logo and whatnot. but simply the logo is there to represent the series as a stage. giving a stage that is from a franchise the smash symbol as a logo wouldnt make much sense would it.

Hey, I’ve got this idea what about a stage that represents nintendo’s history as whole. It could be a simple platform stage with a ginormous screen in the background. It would be a video of nintendo games starting from Donkey kong onward to Wii with props interwinding with the vid

Ex. While the vid shows Duck hunt, the stage platform changes to look like the grass from the game and ducks fly from one point of the stage to another. You can ride on these. The same with all things.

It would be unique and cool. So do you like the idea?

Animal Crossing Series character=Miis. Look at it this ways
-Miis are basically upgraded AC humans.
-AC humans are the main characters in AC.
-AC humans will probably be replaced by Miis in a very possible AC Wii game.

Therefore, I conclude Miis have the best chance as a AC rep.

Also, love the item, it could involve more skill than you think, and in play will be similar to the proxy mines [where you can purposely aim your opponent(s) at it]. It could involve a lot of skill in the end if you think about it that way.
