Playing N64 games without an N64 controller is hard not because the controller is superior, but because it's so freakishly different to every other controller out there. For one, Ocarina of Time's item equipment and especially playing the ocarina only makes sense with a 6-button set-up (one of my few dislikes of the 3DS version, the ocarina makes no sense.) I actually once had an USB controller that was just like a Playstation controller except it had 6 face buttons, it worked wonderfully for that thing. Banjo Kazooie is a big offender too, the Z+C system doesn't make much sense without the four separate C buttons.

As for how ergonomic it is, I thought I liked it for some time, but I once went back to it and was like "WTF is this thing?!"

The main buttons and stick are easily accessible, but the thing feels strangely flat, it really doesn't fit the shape of your hand at all.

The potential for serious problems at events with 100 wireless controllers going at once are pretty substantial. Earlier posts went over this in detail.
Can't people just remove the batteries from their wireless controllers when it is not their turn to play?

Or can't they just synch the wireless controllers with the consoles by pressing the red buttons when it is their turn to play?

Or at least share the wireless controllers and buy lots of hand sanitizers?

Or just share the wireless controllers and plug in your own Pro controllers?

I can at least reply to your last question. No, competitive players do not want to share controllers. Too many opportunities for Johns, aka sour grapes. "My controller wasn't working right!" "You messed up the analog stick before my turn!" "Look at all this Cheeto grease all over the analog stick!" "How was I supposed to know the batteries were running dry?" "You can't make me play on this, I only play on this obscure third party pad, that's why I lost, waaaaaah"

People tend to bring their own pads and controllers. That goes for most fighting games, as far as I know.

Okay, but what about sharing the wireless controllers and pluging in your own Pro controllers? You don't have to actually touch the shared Wii Remote but you bring your own Pro controller and plug that in.

Decent idea. Still have to worry about Wii U Pro controllers, and the one guy who uses wiimote nunchuk.

Pro controllers work wirelessly even when plugged in, you know. The cable doesn't actually send any information, it's for charging exclusively.

Sooo freaking joyful that they aren't making us use that fridgerator of a controller for gameplay ♥♥♥

If you're referring to the gamepad, that was never going to be the case.

I'm not super certain I understand the excitement though. It's still wireless no? GC layout isn't exactly the big advantage that the GC controller has...

Nice.

I've already decided I'm going to buy a Pro Controller for Mario Kart 8, though. I'll see how I like it. But still I think I'll get this either way, because the GCN controller is my preferred method of playing Mario Kart Wii and Brawl. If I ever want to go back to those games with that controller I'll have to buy this, since I'm giving my Wii away to close friends.

As long as the people buy it, Nintendo will make it I guess. XD

I never expected them to do this... What strange universe do we live in now??

I feel like the only person whoa actually likes the gamepad.

I also love how it's not as heavy as the DUKE. (Xbox original controller.)

I'm not happy that it plugs into the wii mote. I'll wait to see how it looks, and if it's not true 100% to the GC controller then im just getting a Nyko

The gamepad is surprisingly light and comfortable. I love mine. If I can play MH3U on it, I can play Smash on it.

After dwelling on this news, I'd probably go with the Pro anyway, simply because I hate having tons of Wiimotes laying about with controllers awkwardly attached to them.

It's nice that this one's going to be about half the price of the Pro, though. Don't see why anyone should complain about this. More options in a market will benefit consumers.

I'm making fun of the Wii U controller being big enough to fuction as a couch ^ - ^
It does have some similarities with a couch, it's big, it's comfortable, practical...epic. (The Wii U Gamepad > GCN controller, it's the best controller Nintendo has ever produced)

Not only is it like a couch, it is also like a television. It is basically an entire entertainment room.

I know this started as a simple joke...but the Wii U Gamepad alone actually makes the Wii U a better overall media hub than the competitors because it has the advantage of having a touch interface for the keyboard. God, looking for a YT video on the other consoles is painful.

i'm not sure why people are complaining about it, more options the better.
I just don't understand why everyone is so upset about the wireless? It's not like there is any noticeable lag and the Wii U doesn't even have anything to plug into anyway, besides a couple of USB ports.

Nope, once it pairs with one console it won't do another until you manually shut it off or let it runs off its batteries.
At least, that's what my experience with it has been.

edit: Also, the only way to "turn it off" is unhooking the battery or taking an extra minute to re- pair the controllers through the wii menu. If that isn't helplessly tedious i don't know what is.

Edit edit: This would be my 1k post, now i'm a fancy lord.
Just tested it, pressing SYNC while it's on and letting it stop flashing makes it turn off. I can't test if it'll connect to a new Wii U the first press (considering I only have one Wii U) but the second press worked just like if the controller was off. I even deleted the Wiimote pairings in system settings after the first SYNC press to simulate a new Wii U.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to resync the rest of my controllers...

Hm, I can sync my Pro Controller to another Wii U even when the main one is on. Like my brother's Wii U- it was connected to that one but once I hit the sync on my Wii U and the controller, it linked to my Wii U. I don't see the big problem.

I can see why people would like the WiiPad now...

I'm a proffesional gamer, so I prefer a clutch controller aka the GC, but I see your perspective :3

Because. as has been repeatedly stated, interfering wireless signals would be a fiasco at tournaments.

I feel like many people are just stuck in the past and don't realize that this game is being designed for the Wii U Pro Controller.

Smash 64 was designed for the N64 controller. Melee & Brawl were designed primarily for the GC controller. News flash: This is a new console with a new controller. This game is being designed for that controller. It's how the hardware cycle works.

I'll be buying this, even though I already have a mayflash adapter. If this works well and feels good, I'll use it. If not, I'll have it for when friends are over, and I'll stick to the mayflash adapter.

Uh. Am I missing something here? 'Cause I didn't read through the thread. But where is the C-Stick? They can make all the fancy designs and whachyamawhoozits they want, but I won't be subscribing to a controller that doesn't have a C-Stick replacement.

Edit: I'm dumb. I didn't notice the 'no picture posted' in the thread and just assumed the picture in the link provided was the controller.

I am sorry if I kill anyone's hopes and dreams but you guys should definitely read the description PDP gives the controller: an arcade fight pad with a design inspired by the GC.

A fight pad has only 6 buttons and 1 stick guys. Anyone who thinks having 1 stick and only 6 buttons is going to be better than 2 sticks and 12+ buttons just because the buttons are "layed-out" like a Gamecube controller will feel really dumb when they try to play Smash with it.

Hopefully I am wrong and the controller is an actual GC remake. Although because of its attachment to the Wii Controller I will keep using my Wii U Pro even if it is a remake.

Wish people weren't afraid of using the pro controller. It's super comfy and the battery life is insane.
