The reason I think it will end up being well made is because Nintendo is actually publishing it, this effectively will make it a first party controller.

That's like saying that Hyrule Warriors will be of the Zelda quality.

The fact it runs through the Wiimote and the $25 price point additionally scares me, because it might mean the controller is cheaply made.
It isn't a big deal for me, since I'm used to it. But I can see why this would be detrimental to most players.
And this is what is dumb (I'm agreeing with you BTW, not calling you dumb). Why they can't just EASILY cater to everyone is beyond me.

You mean the big, red "SYNC" button on the back doesn't connect it to a Wii U?
Nope, once it pairs with one console it won't do another until you manually shut it off or let it runs off its batteries.
At least, that's what my experience with it has been.

edit: Also, the only way to "turn it off" is unhooking the battery or taking an extra minute to re- pair the controllers through the wii menu. If that isn't helplessly tedious i don't know what is.

Edit edit: This would be my 1k post, now i'm a fancy lord.

I do remember the syncing process being quite different to the Wii, so this is likely the case. I'd try it myself, but I don't know anyone else who owns a Wii U.

I got my Nintendo official white GC controller for 25 bucks. :p

And I would say Hyrule Warriors would be Dynasty Warriors quality instead of Zelda quality xD.

For any smashfest or tournament with say more than 20 players, it becomes a huge issue. That's why it matters to me and other smashfest and tournament players. We don't want that to happen. Quite frankly, a USB wired option fix is easy.

All the other consoles from the 360, X1, PS3, and PS4 on have this.
Well, this is only kind of true.
There will not be an issue with input lag.
Check out this post. he has explained how lag will not be an issue for the wii u.

(There will be a lot of other issues though, this i completely understand)

Yeah, like 10 years ago. $25 then is worth approximately $32 and would likely sell for $35 now thanks to inflation.

Exxacccttttlllyyyyyy.

That's what I keep referring to. Seeing as how Melee and Brawl have such large tournaments, a tournament larger than that won't be a too uncommon occurrence.

I got two white gcn controllers for like 27$ each off of amazon a few months ago.

Fair enough. It's still a lot better than the input lag people think when they think wireless controllers, imo.

Edit: Crap missed my 1k post

You sure about that? I remember differently. Eh, I'll see for myself later.

There are already converters so you can make GC controllers into classic controllers if you really dislike the pro controller for some reason... but the pro is really nice and doesn't have to be tethered to a Wii Remote so honestly it's going to be better. Finding exact measurements for input lag it is not going to be easy since the Wii U is newer and unpopular, but most modern wireless controllers introduce a trivial amount of lag (and don't say "there's no such thing as a trivial amount of lag" because that's a silly position that ignores the fact that consoles themselves introduce lag). The tech the Wii U uses for wireless controllers is pretty interference resistant; I'd be surprised if non-hypothetical issues actually come up with it. I know Wavebirds soured a lot of the smash community on wireless, but really, wireless controllers have come a long way.

I bothered to buy a Wii U Pro Controller so I might as well attempt to get used to playing games on it. The only thing I'm not a fan of is that the ABXY buttons are further away from the R and Z button due to the placement of the right analogue stick. However, if Nintendo makes a Gamecube shell for the Wii U Pro Controller, I will be all over it. It will help them put GC games on the Virtual Console as well.

As for the Gamecube Classic Controller, I'm not a fan in the slightest. Requiring people to attach it to a Wiimote isn't cool because the Wiimote's battery life is awful. The $13.99 for the Mayflash converter is a worthy price for this kind of tech as opposed to what PDP is going to sell.

I thought about editing my picture into that when I typed it, but that's not in my wheelhouse of skills.
The option is in the reply box that little bar of tools up above it. You see a smiley face, a picture, and a film reel. The smile is for smiles. The picture lets you post images, just click the picture icon and pop in the url. The film reel lets you post video clips same thing click icon past the url. Knowing is half the battle.

Well, its half the price of a pro controller.
Because it is gamecube-inspired, I'm guessing it will be a gamecube controller with flat buttons for triggers and hopefully a second z button.
Unless the pro controller gets a price drop I might actually buy the damn thing, unless its uncompatible with anything else...well maybe if it had an awesome smash logo on it. Damn I'm torn here.

Anything is better then the Wii-U Pro controller.

That's how uncomfortable I find it.
Have you actually even used it? I find that very hard to believe. The Wii U pro is probably the most ergonomic controller out there right now. This is coming from someone that loves the old GC controller lol

Better than manually unscrewing the pro controllers' battery port so you can connect it to another console

Also, lol on the poor dpad. Not like we're going to be using it much in smash.
Lmao, you don't have to do that at all to sync to another console. Who told you that?

Fail. I was talking about editing my face over the space marine's face pipe and all, not posting pictures, editing pictures.

Presumably your fridge.
Hmm...I'll pick it up if Nintendo announces Gamecube VC at some point. Otherwise I think I'll stick with the Wii U Pro. I admit I'm a little surprised that they actually made a GC-style controller specifically for Sm4sh.

Damn it still wireless but oh well... I'll take a wireless GC controller over the Pro Controller any day of the week.

Can't wait to see how it looks! :)

EDIT: Hoping it looks something like this:
Woah, if it ended up like this I'd facepalm so freaking hard.

Way to miss the whole freaking point about the GCN controller's design.

Dope, I can dig it.

I'm not worried about lag and interference, I play multiplayer games on my PS3 with 4 people all the time and it's just fine. I never understood the hang up on input lag. I mean, as long as it isn't something like playing a system on an HDTV without an HDMI it's fine. I mean, I've played Brawl too much to even care about lag anymore lol

I don't get why people are so butthurt about it being wireless. If anything, it's better. We didn't have problems with WaveBirds or anything, and personally I don't care.

Well, it's because the radio wave(?) signals from the controller can interfere with one another. There are also issues with registration of inputs when dealing with a wireless device, as well as potential input lag. It is a legitimate issue, but I don't feel that it's prevalent as it used to be during the wave bird and Wii era, as Bluetooth devices are becoming much more advanced, so I don't think that anyone using a modern Wii Remote or Wii U controller will have that issue.

I'm just happy we are getting something. Personally, I knew this was going to happen.

I'm bothered more about the fact that I'll need to hook them up to a Wii remote than them being wireless, what's the point of that? Couldn't they have made them register as a Pro Controller instead? I'm seriously not gonna bother getting them because of that, I mean, I'd be buying an extra controller, but I wouldn't be able to use it for an extra player.

Yes I have used it.

It is a very uncomfortable controller for me. The N64 is 10 times more comfortable then the Wii-U Pro for me lol.
Oh geeeeeez. Have you ever had any hand cramps or other issues with your hands?

The N64 controller is pretty great, I feel. Not quite as versatile as the GC controller, since you tend to stick to one hand position on the N64 controller (out of a possible 2, or technically 3), and that changes how you play, while there is only one default position for the GC.

You know what really sucks, though? Trying to play N64 games without an N64 controller. It's next to impossible. I hate it. That controller was so different from all the others... there really is no successor to it.

Here's the problem: it's still not a wired controller.
You know, I never understood what is the problem with wireless controllers... how is wired controllers better than wireless controllers?

The potential for serious problems at events with 100 wireless controllers going at once are pretty substantial. Earlier posts went over this in detail.
