Abadango was at a recent tournament and went to grand finals against Mr R. I was actually surprised he made it to game 5 since Mr R is just so good. He lost, but still, PAC IN GRANDS. And is anyone else here not liking abadango's play style with pac? He's a really defensive player who just tends to sit back and be patient. I watched the tournament live and two things:
1. When Abadango was up, he (as you already know) played really defensively and everyone in the chat had the ResidentSleeper emotes. I don't know, but it made me feel kinda sad that the best pac man as of right now is really campy and not very entertaining. Don't get me wrong, he can be very entertaining some times.
2. Ever since that Apex match vs dabuz, people not only think dabuz runs out the time, but they also think abadango runs out the time.

"..really campy and not very entertaining." Exactly my point. When will people accept a campy play style as entertaining/competitive/pro.
Tell me, what is wrong with being campy? Are you just completely writing off one of the most used playstyles?I'm sorry for turning your post into mine, but I am calling you out: bigotry!!! (mommy i learned a new word!)

Its totally fine to like campy I'm just saying personally I tend to be more agressive. And I like watching agressive people more since campy people for me are just boring to watch. I get that there is money on the line and that players will do anything to win which is why I don't blame abadango

Just watch more matches with Kool Aid then. He's the most successful aggressive player. You just have to realize that Pac-Man's weaknesses are most obvious when he's trying to be more aggressive and not done well. Being aggressive and creative with approaches is the sweet spot with Pac, IMO.

I wish I could watch more matches with kool aid. There aren't any videos of him after apex (that are on YouTube). And my phone doesn't let me watch previous twitch streams.

I'm from Georgia and I'm rising from D-tier with Pac-man
I got some custom tourney matches from last Saturday. They went well and they are on youtube. The link will be in the other forum but I can drop it here if you want.

haha people should look at all the options (infinite lol) for default, then customs later....
That has been ongoing, I sense an overwhelming negativity to customs in general. Limitations of the default special moves are pretty close to understood. Nuanced combinations are still getting worked out. Ignoring customs in a customs meta is foolish however. Compared to the first set of customs, we ignored PPJ and Lazy fruit, with testing and experimentation we were able to find they were not bad at all, and they have been implemented into the new 10 sets. If you want to use defaults and keep exploring that is fine, but trying to dismiss them completely is not wise.

Meh, depends. If Jay-kun, like myself, is so against customs for whatever reason that he won't enter customs tournaments (My reason for this being that they are broken as **** in just about every sense of the word), then ignoring customs is reasonable.

I highly doubt customs will last beyond EVO anyway. EVO top 16 and beyond will prove why they shouldn't be used for competitive play; I just hope we don't get booed off the stage in the process.

I'm the best, confirmed, you're all garbage. I'm actually ZeRo's long lost cousin, and my dad is Diddy Kong. I'm the best Smash 4 player here.

If this is still cared about, put Zage in front of me. His item game is leagues better. I've got work to do for sure.

I haven't seen Zage's play in a while. Know where I could find recent-ish footage of him?

It was my first time on stream and I was a really nervous knowing I had a camera on me, I played the MU really badly and missed alot of obvious punishes, probably my single worst tournament match. I'm surprised at that comments on that video saying I was playing stylish, I thought I was playing bad lol.

In the meantime, I'm wobbling around Xanadu in the background, because Zage takes the majority of credit there as PacMan. Fortunately, people seem to be confusing me with you Zage. Its all like "Man, I saw you on stream! Your PacMan is totally surprising". And I'm all like "Dude... that wasn't me. There's another PacMan here"

Anyway, Zage > Me as far as the record goes. I'm most certain of that, because we've participated in some of the same tournaments and he's consistently ranked above me.

Another thing is that you run into a SURPRISING number of people at Xanadu who can consistently catch the Key. The level of competition there is pretty high for sure. The DDD Player JDawg seems to be one of them

Actually, JDawg is annoying as all heck, because the way DDD plays makes him look like a weak player. (DDD is just so... derpy) But his reaction as well his DDD skills are quite solid. Spacing, reading, etc. etc. JDawg is one of the most challenging players at Xanadu IMO. I don't think he's won the tournament... but I've never taken a match against him.

I've managed to take matches from Logic's Diddy too. (lost to him in the tournament... but I've gone 1-2 against him). But I can't seem to win even one match vs JDawg's DDD. DDD isn't exactly a common character. He spams BAir because that attack has almost no landing-lag and covers a surprising amount of ground options.

So yeah, I'd say Logic's Diddy was easier to take on than JDawg's DDD. (Logic had Pocket Olimar, and omfg wtf was going on )

One thing I've learned from JDawg fights is that PacMan loses in the air against DDD. When you're "walled out" by DDD, and playing against a dude who's reaction-speed allows him to consistently catch Key... you're gonna play weaker. Its no "FAIR" to victory vs DDD for sure, its a challenge to get in and win vs JDawg.

You can't take him out in the air, because JDawg's is exceptional at walling you out with Bair, and Fair. JDawg's BAir -> FF is also a trap. You can't rush in on that... there doesn't seem to be much landing lag off the attack.

DDD looks quite derpy, but believe me JDawg is an exceptional player.

So in the end, a lot of my matches end up looking like what happens on that stream. I get the occasional 5.4% Fair, while JDawg trades about 50/50 with like 13%+ BAirs all day. JDawg's DDD KOs me at 120%, while I spend the whole match chipping him to 170% before I get a KO. I can't seem to get any hit aside from Fair against him... and Fair isn't exactly a good damaging option.

Worst part is, when you start thinking you're reading him, and start to power-shield the BAir, JDawg changes up the timing and does BAir -> FF (BAir never comes out) pivot grab. Uggghhhh... I think figuring out the Bair games of JDawg is the key to beating his DDD. He really does spam that attack a lot, I just never figured out what to do against it.

It was my first time on stream and I was a really nervous knowing I had a camera on me, I played the MU really badly and missed alot of obvious punishes, probably my single worst tournament match. I'm surprised at that comments on that video tbh.
Its easy to do obvious punishes against weaker players. >_<

JDawg is pretty nice, I've asked him to do a bunch of friendlies with me. And his crew is filled with exceptional players. Play with him (and his party) offline next time and I think you'll get a lot of respect for that guy's playstyle.

Anyway, I was watching that match as it happened, because I was worried that my playstyle was horrible or something. I guess I was secretly rooting for JDawg because I lost against him so much... But seeing that you ran into the same problems against JDawg helped resecure my confidence.
