Well we were expecting big news. But when we have seen the site our disappointment disregarded the fact that there is vital information in the screen shots.

The first and perhaps the most important. Look at Pika. Looks like air dodging right? If there is an air-dodge there will certainly be wavedashing.

Wouldn't link fly much higher at 102%? You may say "he isn't finished flying yet." Wrong since the screenshot was to insinuate that knockback is greatest at higher percentage therefore link must be at the pivot of his flight . I conclude that either Link is even more heavy or Mario's Utilt has low knockback.

Link using Ftilt/Fsmash/dash attack on Mario. Since link is close to the edge he must have been edge guarding. So this must be his Fsmash(even though it looks like a Dash attack). If I knew the percentage that mario has died I might have approximated the lag in the Fsmash.

Pikachu is love. Pure love.

I'm not so sure that the air-dodge guarantees wavedashing. I can easily see them leaving air-dodge in, because it is very important in aerial combat. No one knows their stand on wavedashing.

They could easily add a script to stop horizontal movement upon landing with an air-dodge. *shrug* ..but I think if they take a look, and I'm sure they've watched many, at matches on YouTube, they notice how much it has changed the way people play. I think they'll keep it. ..but we just don't know their opinion on it. =\

Maybe they've worked with the game engine enough to remove it. Wave dashing was only in so the characters wouldn't go through the ground. But I don't see any good reason as to why they'd remove it from the game.

A lot of these screens might not be true "gameplay" but rather rigged gameplay shots. The first screenshot is a perfect example, what are the chances of getting everyone in those poses (an aerial dodge, a ground dodge, an aerial attack, and ... whatever Wario is doing. Just jumping?) without much effort? They probably froze the game and moved the characters into position and pose before getting the shot. Same with Link, which explains why he and Mario are perfectly placed in the same poses.

Though, I could be entirely wrong and you really could be on to something as well. I'm more curious if the new damage meters were designed with custom icons/names in mind.

i get the feeling they inflated the damage in the second screen, so as to make the idea of knockback more clear.
Also, I agree that we can't assume wavedashing just yet (I don't really see it leaving, though)

I highly doubt that. Obviously link goes higher at higher percentage. Why inflate it?

I hate you.

Yes it was set up but none the less this is in the game.

they would never resort to posing characters a la Garry's Mod...

these are trua animations, the first pick IS staged, but thats a given, they have excess to all of the game so its like picture mode....

i dont think nintendo would just take out advanced moves like the wavedash. i mean, this game is obviously going to have a strong competitive scene like melee does, so why take it out? it'll only add to the popularity of the game.

Whats "a la Garry's Mod"?

The reason WDing will stay is because with air dodging you can do 3 thing.
1. Air dodge in place.
2. Air dodge in a direction.
3. Wave land special.
Might as well keep all of them.

Hmmm... you are confusing me.
1. It is an U-tilt.
2. Link is in the air. And Mario is kinda in the air but not exactly.
3. The stun animation probiably changed.

I think he's talking about the other one. He is jabbing Link in a close-up. ..and what do you mean by wave land special?

A little clarification:
I only thought that they increased the gap between the numbers in the that pic in order to accentuate the fact that more damage = more knockback. Why didn't they just make Link go higher then? Well, it's a nicer screenshot this way.
Anyway, it was just a thought.

It's usually so quick that you don't notice... but if you pause the game during attacks, you see that alot of them do enlarge the body parts.

I doubt they will rig a screenshot for something no one(except me lol) will notice. Plus it looks fine if the flight was higher like SSBM. It is not surprising that Link is heavier in SSBB it looks heavier when it is is in his Twilight form.

EDIT: Wow! People post like crazy here!

Those who defy my theories will get eaten by Pikachu. In the night.

Lol at everyone getting confused at each other and asking each other questions.

@WR3K Definitely Mario jabbing because in the first and second trailer Mario uses the fire palm like the first gap.

@Keta Waveland special is what the characters do when they dodge towards the ground and land. Yeah, its wavedashing. Look it up in the AR or internet.

Edit to say wtf about pikachu, now I am scared. 0.0

again, wtf below

If you mean "landfallspecial", no, it's not. AR's "landfallspecial" refers to the state of falling after an upB/airdodge, in which you're flashing and can't do anything until you land. AR puts that up when you wavedash because you acualy do fall towards the floor in that state for a short time, but it's got absolutely nothing to do with the acual act of wavedashing.

I'm almost positive that AR does not recodnize wavedashing. It will only display the steps (jump, airdodge, landfallspecial, land) you do to perform it.

If there is acualy something called "WAVELAND special" on AR, I certainly have never heard of it.

That's what I assumed he meant. =\ I couldn't remember the actual term, though. ^^;

Lol, I have been posting because I have nothing else to do, too. Especially two days before the trailer. Spam central.

To seem sort of relevant, why does Link keep getting beaten up. :(
Even Nintendo realizes what is going to happen when Brawl comes out. :urg:

At least Mario could be lowish high tier, again.

Disagreed. Link may indeed be heavier, but he wouldn't be... This much heavier, right?

I think that they increased the damage potential for all of the characters, if anything.
