One question. What about dbl elimination as opposed to single? In double there are more matches, and less chance of winning due to a fluke match. Also if there are ever seeded matches how does that weigh in? I know this is a good start, and encourages more people to play, but I see two huge flaws. Maybe discussion should happen?

good points, almost all offline tourneys are pool to dbl elimination style tournements, things like that are always up too discussion, ill update the regulations if you guys want me too, i have no opinion in dbl vs single elimination

as for seeding, im try right now with my tournement and seeing how the seeding is going, but seeding is far off from accurate using my list. as ive said it's based on tourement wins, and not even past the top 4. i know plenty of people who consistantly place top 8 who don't get any points added, but top 8 is a huge hassle, im still thinking of a good way too add points for top 8 wins.

in addition too that, with seeding and no tourney restrictions, we're going to see the same placings and the same people in the top 8 over and over again. if there's a way too seperate skill level, so that everyone has a chance too play more enjoyable matches, i doubt we're going too see many seeded tournements anytime soon. and this is still just a game, it should still be fun for everyone. With random brackets you have more chance of playing a variaty of people, with a variaty of skill.

you also didn't consider the other tourney specefic restrictions, stage list changes, character restrictions, rule changes. There's no way im going to restrict the requirments down too "you have too play exactly by the rules, no exceptions" Wheres the fun in that?

You're right. But you could have themed tournaments count for less. Coming up with the equation is the hard part though.

why should themed tournaments get less merit than other tourneys? obviously all captain falcons, only b button goes over the top and ya that's probably where i would draw the line, but does themed tourneys require less skill? Id say it actually requires more skill and thought in some occasions. Luckily the otl boards are mostly honorable, and when strikingly easy ways to win present themselves (wall infinites/stage list changes) we usually are pretty good at going around it. This is probably why you don't see many MKs or DDDs around here, these boards are mostly anti-general opinion.

Going back too themed tourneys, is restricting the usable characters saying that it takes less skill to play the same game? Of course not. Is making every stage legal take any less skill too pick a cp stage? Questionable (barge ), but probably not. No themed tourney should have any less merrit than a tourney that is based on the "recommended" ruleset.

Character restrictions are debatable, but not CP limits. If the tournament says "you can only use one character throughout this torunament" I believe it shouldn't be as credible. Counter-picks are a huge part of smash brothers, and to restrict that takes away the strategic part of smash.

ha found an arguement! you have up till the tournement starts, even up to before you have to play to choice your character. anytime before you play you can see who's playing and cp accordingly. also everyone else is in the same boat. unlike the mk relation i just said, where mk can be used as a cp for everyone, which essentially breaks the cp system, brackets are random and you have about the same chance of fighting an easy match up as well as a hard one. not to mention that match up ratios don't determine a win, skill level does more than who a person is playing. I cant pick mk and automatically beat aryman's snake. it'll be an easier match for me, but ill still likely get 3 stocked.

don't forget that everyone else is in the same boat, and you still have the option of cping with your stage choices.

Trust me, if there is a Jiggs main, i have the option- and Advantage- to CP wolf/falco. so why wouldnt i?
i played bunnyma yesterday and got ***** so i picked DDD and CP'd Bridge of Eldin. guess who won the match?
and it is an opportunity to you if your Character has a better matchup against your opponents Character and you have the say on the stage.

updated the list and seperated everyone on the 20 mark (which is only ary and dabuz lol). id say 20+ qualifies as being a consistant winner of online tourneys. Now hurry up before ary and dabuz each get there own catagory ><

always the good/bad trade off with random brackets. someone always has to play ary/dabuz

edit: im tempted to start putting top 8, where 5-8 would get something like .5 points. yes no? if i do the minimum # of people would have to be 16 and it might be a pain to the TOs to keep track of top 8
