GREAT game that is super addictive. You play as a miner in a world (either online or off), and you collect blocks to build. Very simple but I've died, losing everything three times, and I restarted without issue. Built by one guy.

Similar to Love in that it's made by one man, but the game is all about collaborating with other players online. You build settlements, and the AI learns via procedural generation. Recently, the AI learned how to use teleporters and began ransacking towns, both player ran and AI ran. A real war is brewing.

[Wretched]

I just want to mention that there is a wonderful game on the 360 under the indie section called "I made a gaem with zombiez in it" with interchangable letters and numbers.
I don't know if it belongs in this thread, but I played the demo and it was very, very, very entertaining. It's a really good time waster if you have a few spare minutes in the middle of your day. It has a phenomenal sound track too.

Super Meat Boy should be on this list, somewhere. Not sure if it's open source, but it's very indie.

Also, Matt Makes Games has been down for a while. An Untitled Story is by far his best creation, it's simply fantastic.

Battle for Wesnoth

Arguably one of THE BEST turn-based tactical strategy games. The game has a high fantasy theme. Gameplay is very in-depth and the numerous campaigns can be quite difficult. Has multiplayer as well!

Available for Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux.

Found this after reading some articles on the creator's need for support/money to finish the game, it's called Iconoclasts. The download is only about 30mins-1hr long of gameplay, but for me it already seems like a great game. Check out Iconoclasts (free dl) and other games from the same guy at:

Noitu Love 2 is another note-worthy one from him, about 10 bucks though.
