I really hate the lack of a ranking system as well.

What I'm going to do is just get alot of people's FC's from SWF and only play people on my friends list. If they're complete noobs, I'll delete them, and I'll only play with the best smashers. I don't think I'm ever going to play a "With Anyone" match.

You mean players like me? :) Adding good people on your Brawl Friend Code list is a solution. I don't mind no rankings at all. Also, even if there are rankings, it wouldn't suck the fun out of Brawl.

it's been stated that the online will have a rating system but only between the people whom have exchanged friend codes there will be a rank with that but if you choose the free for all option to fight anyone then there's no ranking system.

The Way I see Brawl Online:

1.Voice chat possible? Could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it. Anyways, it is a option to have voice only, text only, both, or neither.

2. Otions/Custmoization. This is wat makes online mutilplayer...online multiplayer! First off, I want this:

-Options:

-Special Brawl Options: Chose what types of Special Brawl options you want for the quick game finder, or to use when you start a game. You obviously can chose time, stock (teh good stuff), coin, bonus, and all the other features on/off.

-Items: For the quick game search/game start, chose wat items you want/don't want, and how high you want each item on. You can also chose assist trophies, which ones are on, and how often they are on, as well as Pokéballs, and which Pokémon come out and which ones don't. Anywhere from 1 item, no ATs, no certain items, no certain ATs, no smash balls, non items, smash balls, and ATs, etc. The choice is up to you.

-For time and bonus, chose the time you want to play, and search for a (multiple) games. For stock, chose the number of lives you wish to play, with optional time. For coins, chose the time you wish to play, or (my new idea), the number of coins needed to win.

-Stages: Chose one stage you only want to play, or not want to play, or just basically chose any stage as a stage you wish to play on/not play on, and the game matcher/starter will chose this option for you.

3.Multiple games: Do the HOMERUN Contest online, compete online, maybe do event matches online, Subspace Emissary, Classic Fight Mode, All-Star Mode, and Classic Adventure Mode online with another player. Of course normal fights (Brawls) are a option, too, and you can chose options for those.

-For classic mode, event matches, all-star, and class adventure mode, you can chose what character the game starter is going to use. (assuming they have already selected).

-For classic mode, subspace emissary adventure mode, classic adventure mode, and all-star mode, chose the difficulty level, and number of lives for all of them (not sure how subspace emissary works [with or without lives], though).

4.Distance: Face someone close by, a friend close by/far away, or someone across your country, continent, or worldwide as options.

5.Easy select game types: To avoid chosing all these options, there are simple game types. Normal Brawl, Subspace Emissary, All-Star Mode, Classic Adventure Mode, Classic Mode, HOMERUN Contest Team, HOMERUN Contest Competition, and Event Matches. You can then chose players, options (like stock, bonus, time, coin; items on/off), and then you can just wait to connect to a game, and start playing! :)

6.Chose the number of players in a game. In the HOMERUN Contest Competion, chose the number of competitors, or (this would be neat, but unlikely) if you did a HOMERUN Contest Team Competiotn, chose the number of competiting teams. Lastly for Classic Brawls, chose if you want 1, 2, or 3 opponents. This is a easy to use option, that anyone would understand.

:)

SO ya, those are my ideas. Any thoughts on that=???

Too many options. If it matched people up based on that, you'd be waiting forever. What's the likely hood someone will pick all the same items, the same stage, and mode as you, with the same amount it takes to win? Granted, they could do a hosting system... but there would be way too much to sift through, and too much wait if you're a host.

All I think are practical options are

1. number of players you want in the match

2. short/ medium / long match

and possibly

3. items on / off

I hope there are some choices, but the more choices there are, the less likely you are to find someone to play.

It's highly possible we won't get any options at all in "play anyone" mode.

As far as Friend mode, I'm sure it'll be based on a hosting, or mutual system.

Rankings are good in theory but based on the (safe) assumption that Sora team's experience is heavily Nintendo console-based I don't forsee any implementation of an online ranking system for Brawl standing the test of time. That's why I'd rather not see one at all than see a broken and diluted one that doesn't do its job of matching up similarly-skilled players.

Brawl Doesn't really NEED a ranking system. Especially if its as flawed as other wi-fi games like Mario Kart DS. If Brawl were to have a Win/Loss system, get prepared to have a lot of people disconnecting before the match begins when they see someone who has a ton of wins and little to no losses. Sakurai doesn't want us to pay attention to trivial things like a rank and just have a blast while playing. The reason you won't be able to see another player's name while fighting against anyone worldwide is so that if you happen to encounter someone that you know is really good (assuming you are able to see their name), you wont get discouraged or disconnect before or during the game. It will be a random surprise every time. I also wouldn't want a headset like in Halo. Headsets are good for games that require communication and teamwork. While Brawl may require teamwork at times, it certainly doesn't require communication. I mean all you can really do is trash talk your opponents rather than say anything thats vital to the gameplay. I'd rather let my controller do the talking and boasting if you know what I mean. ;)

I don't really carry for a leaderboard but it does need a ranking sytem.

For example:

Rank 1 - A - 0 to 50 kills
Rank 2 - B - 50 - 150 kills
Rank 3 - C - 150 - 300 kills
Rank 4 - D - 300 - 500 kills
Rank 5 - E - 500 - 750 kills
Rank 6 - F - 750 - 1000 kills
Rank 7 - G - 1000 - 1500 kills
Rank 8 - H - 1500 kills - 2500 kills
Rank 9 - I - 2500 kills - 5000 kills
Rank 10 - J - 10000 kills +

Using a ranking system similar to that, For every stock you kill on wifi = 1 kill point.

As you go up in ranking you'll fight others in your rank level. No one will ever need to see your record just it will store the info on your Wii memory. Though what if you don't want to play professional?

Well taking examples for other Wi-fi games (for DS mainly) I have this solution:

Friend Codes:
- Battle
- Home-Run Contest
- Send Photo/Video
- Send Stages

With Anyone:
- Battle (meaning battle anyone with any ranking despite your ranking)
- Rival Battle (meaning players who match your rank will fight you)
- Home-Run Contest

Just as simple as that they could fix it up.

The problem is...

if there is some type of record, noobs and newbies, and sore-losers will get out of the amtch after they lose theirs first stock.

For disconnectors I have a solution:

Based on your connection rate you lose a certain amount of points.

If you disconnect with 100% - 95% connection rate , you lose 10 points.

What determines the connection reate is out of the grand total matches you played how many you disconnected from.

For example: Fought in 100 Matches, disconnected from 3 matches. Your connection rate is 97%.

So we add 5 points for every 5% less on your connection.

100-95 = 10
95-90 = 15
90-85=20
85-80 = 25
80-75 = 30

etc.

Rankings would be nice but I really don't care. I don't need a rank to tell me I'm good. I take satisfaction in killing and being challenged. If I'm looking to play online I'm not going to think "Oh I hope I get some random magical stallion"

If I want to play someone at my level I'll try matchmaking on these boards and play at random and hope to be surprised. Not saying I don't want a ranking system though. Just saying its I don't see it as the be all end all of online play like some people seem too.

On a side note I hate idiots who hate things simply because they are over rated or popular. 90% of the people who respond with "Halo is crap" fall in to that category. You can not like a game, thats fine. But saying its the crappiest game ever just makes you look like a child.

It doesn't really matter to me. In fact, I actually like the anonymousness of playing online. I'd like to think of playing with "non-friends" as if I was playing against computer players in Melee. I would play this mode to practice skill and techniques and no one has to know who I am. It's the perfect practice mode.

Now, if I wanted to compete and flex some muscle, I would then proceed to add players to my friends list. I'm sure there will be methods here on Smashboards on how to exchange Wii ID's / aliases. Over time, I would have a large pool of players on my friends list that I can compete against. Anyone else that I don't know nor care about will be anonymous to me and would be used as practice.
Listen to this one... He speaks the truth.

I'm not a fan of rankings. The reason being you'll have people start to whine and cry about "oh can someone help me fluff my ranks up?" or find a way to play someone for the sake of fluffing up their rank and making themselves look "as good as they really are". Plus people start to judge you more on your rank than your skill.
In halo 3 I was a captain, but I've been able to beat commanders and colonels with relative ease. The majority of htem think I'm hacking afterward, or just yell at me over the mic. I mean, my rank really didn't capture my abilities.
I really hope that doesn't happen in brawl, becuase all the smash players I've gone against have been incredibly nice.

All I really want for ranking is a level like Lemon said. I want to see who I am fighting and if the are on the same skill level as I am. I don't want to play the world's worst and best smash player. I know that playing the worst would be useless as I wouldn't get any better. And if I play Ken or somebody I would be killed in 26.3 seconds.

There should be a NoRank Random mode, and a Ranked Random mode.
I'd be happy then.

there is a good reason nintendo made online the way it is, they know places like this exists. freind codes=ranking system
online(normal)=casual fun play. and if some jack*** is jumping around avoiding you, punish him for it, there is no need to take that crap.
ranking can corrupt some people, nintendo is trying to prevent things like this. so if you want ranks, add everyone you can and fight them, other wise dont freak out about it.

(this is how i think it should be)

kills divided by deaths = your kill ratio

ranked matches based on your ratio (as in, it randomly pairs you up with people with similar kill ratios) and then truly random matches where that gets thrown out of the window. you never see someones kill ratio or anything like that. it just tries to match you up with each other as best as it can.

you can also choose between region, nation, and world. basically, region is with in 3 or 4 american states, nation is obviously nation wide, and world is, obviously, world wide. ranked matches are always region based.

also, in randoms, you can taunt, but your text doesnt show up.

at the end of the game, you can high light a player and click "add friend" and if both players do it, you both get auto added to your friends list. parental control can turn this off.

friends matches - one person hosts has complete control over match settings (can be fully changed and do NOT get locked in). for the love of god, make it so that a host can simply host with out playing (acting like a server). that would eliminate host advantage. so like, a wii with the game in, while it appears off, is actually acting as a server. the reason this kind of mode would be nice for us is so that we could hold tournaments with a neutral host. (wow, thats a lot of cluttered thoughts...sorry).

My. Goodness. There will be NO rankings in Brawl. Sakurai said so himself. No rankings, ladies and gentlemen.

I think a ranking system would be a great idea, considering you'll know whom you will be up against and can compare skill levels. Though I'm cool with fighting against strangers with unknown skill levels that can surprise me.
