We did get Simon and Richter, along with a lot of neat Castlevania content, and not to mention the return of Snake, which leads me to believe it wouldn’t really be that complex for Nintendo to get rights to the series, if they really wanted it. However I’m kind of anticipating a spirit event.

I support this! I recently got the Contra Anniversary Collection after knowing about Contra for so long and I loved it. I imagine the main gimmick with Bill Rizer will be as he is damaging the enemy, power ups will appear and Bill can grab it. He can get a variety of the classic upgrades like spread shot, missiles, flamethrower, etc. Such sick moveset potential. I want him in Smash now.

I feel they should go as they did with the Koopalings and how I wish they had went with the Belmonts, skins! Bill is the main one, Lance is the second skin and the rest can be different Contra characters throughout the games! Like Sheena, Brad and Ranzou.

If you do go with the "Koopa Kid" method, at least one of them has be to be Probotector.

Brad Fang would be nice too, but I can understand the difficulty of making one of your alts a werewolf with guns for arms.

C'mon dude. Bill and Lance are BARELY characters anyone even knows the names of. The others are complete nobodies.

This REALLY doesn't justify a Koopaling treatment. They can reference other characters with color schemes and Spirits.

I think there should be more characters/enemies from the classic games and lesser ones from the more modern installments, but this is still a decent set nevertheless.

Thing is, the Koopalings are an iconic crew, and each member matters, even if Bowser Jr. is the one who stands out the most.
When it comes to Contra, the only two guys most people who are fond of the series look up to, are definitely Bill Rizer (specially) and Lance, so I honestly don’t think there’s any reason for that. What I do think they should do with Bill is give him the Olimar treatment, where he’s still the default character, but half of the alts are occupied by both him and Lance.

Ahh damn, I have such fond memories of playing that game.
Seriously it’s a masterpiece, and I can’t even believe it’s fan-made.
First time I played it, I was more blown away than the first time I got to play Mario Maker (which I’m pretty sure Nintendo took some notes from it when adding Link in the Mario Maker sequel).

And yeah, that’s one of the many reasons why I want Ryu Hayabusa and Bill Rizer in Smash, so badly.

The Blaster Master chaps were also part of it, they would be an interesting addition as well, but all in all, I guess I can live without those two (Jason and Sophie, the tank).

I agree. I think that Bill and Lance working similar to the Ice Climbers is kinda crappy. It would be best to have Lance as an alternate skin for Bill.

Contra is two players, but much of the appeal to it is that the characters are a one-man-army.

Plus the games don't exactly focus on teamwork.

Personally I’m not in favor of the duo treatment, mostly cuz I don’t want the Ice Climbers to lose their uniqueness.
Also as weird as it may sound, I think the duo concept would look off when it comes to realistic badass army men, I personally think it’s much more fitting with cute cartoony characters. Granted, if there had to be another duo character in the roster, I think perhaps Bub and Bob or Captain Toad and Toadette would make the most sense of all. Even tho I still think it’s unnecessary.

I had the same idea a long time ago! Furthermore, I originally wanted Bill Rizer and Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden) to be an assist trophies, but when Ren (Persona) and Terry (King of Fighters) were revealed, I thought that adding Bill Rizer and Ryu Hayabusa would make them Ren and Terry feel less out-of-place on the roster.

No...it isn't. Conta is famous for being a two player game, but you aren't required to play it two players. Any more than you're required to play Double Dragon, or River City Ransom, or Cuphead together.

If Master Chief gets in, should you have to juggle 4 characters at a time because of Halo's famous Co-op?

If you want to play Bill and Lance together, play Team Battle with another player.

They don't wear shirts in their NES (in-game) appearance, which is arguably the duo's most iconic/memorable version.

Also if anything that design just makes him look super generic and meh.
