Here's our "official" rules (courtesy of DoH):

RULES

4 stock

8 minute time limit

2/3 sets, 3/5 for semi-finals and finals.

No items

In the event of a tie: sudden death is played out, then the winner of that chooses the stage for the final extra 1 stock 2 minute match

First stage random or agreed upon

Dave's Stupid Rule: no stage you previously won on can be repicked unless it's allowed by the other player(s)

Double blind character picks if necessary for first match (i.e. upon request)

Stage striking: each player can strike one stage from the random stage select only. Not for the entire set.

Advanced slob picks: loser picks stage, then winner picks character, then loser picks character

Controller Mods, Glitches (IC Freeze Glitch, Mewtwo Soul Stunner, etc), and tactics used to stall a match (wall-bombing, rising pound), are banned. You know what we mean when we say this so don’t try and pull any ****.

Bomb Custom Rule (BCR): If something is mutually agreed upon, you may play it (outside of changing the best 2/3, items, and 4 stock). In other words, if you hate DSR, Stage Knockouts, Counter Picking (just wanna go Double Blind?), etc, declare before hand and you don't have to use it. Also, if you do agree to it, and your lose, you're screwed, don't come crying to us.

Teams rules: team attack on and life stealing allowed

1 v 1 Random Stages: Final Destination, Fountain of Dreams, Dreamland 64, Poke Stadium, Yoshi's Story, Battlefield, Kongo Jungle 64, Brinstar

1 v 1 Banned Stages: Hyrule Temple, Yoshi 64, Fourside, Icicle Mountain, Flatzone, Venom, Brinstar Depths, Big Blue, Termina

2 v 2 Random Stages: Final Destination, Dreamland 64, Poke Stadium, Yoshi's Story, Kongo Jungle 64, Battlefield, Brinstar, Mute City

2 v 2 Banned Stages: Hyrule Temple, Fourside, Icicle Mountain, Flatzone, Venom, Brinstar Depths, Big Blue, Fountain of Dreams, Termina

2) scud's roy hates my yoshi. and yoshmeister, yoshi does not require much wavedashing, but he has a lot of individual tricks like samus and the space birds do, so read his character specific thread to see what he is capable of.

has everyone seen taj's mewtwo video!?! it's f'ing awesome. if anyone is looking for another character, pick him up(even if he is last in the new tier list)...taj's video makes PC Chris or Chillindude829 look like scrubs with their stupid high tier character. he doesn't combo on them, but i mean, he pwns a lot of foxes and falcos.


vegafuse, are you teaming with KOS-MOS? i just wanted to know because i want to see how many obstacles Scud and I need to get past to win teams this year
seriously, we have some wicked team options, and how can we practice it?

3) WE NEED TO HAVE A SMASHFEST THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND BEFORE THE TOURNY!
this way everyone can practice, everyone can meet, and is the flyers are printed out, i can take about 25-50 and put them up in Norman, and people form other cities can do that where they live, too. it's brilliant! so, rasta, gravity, or whoever, if you can set up a smashfest this weekend, it would be marvelous. practice, metting, flyer distrobution- it will the make the tourny 2 times as good


and, is anyone doing brackets yet? if not, i'll happily volunteer. we're doing it with a losers bracket, right, where everyone out goes into the losers bracket, and they continue to play until they are out there. then the loser in the winner's bracket take on the winner of the losers bracket to play the winner of the winners bracket for 1st place. and, if we have time, we should also do 4v4 crew battles(no cost) and make sign up at the tourny. just, after the singles and doubles are done we can have a fun, single elimination crew bracket? sounds great to me!

im not available to host a smashfest, but i could go to one, and i think azens mewtwo beat chu's samus once, but the samus wasnt that good, and for that matter niether was the mewtwo but whatever

and i honestly have no ideas for the name

and i dont know who would team up, but 4v4 sounds like a great idea

hmm... we could just call ourselves something overusedand stupid like best in the southwest or something

and as for practicing teams, just fight once computer at first, and just practice using team tactics, and then move on to two computers, and then keep practicing team tactics. level 1 cps by the way.

i dashed away from a roy forward smash, then moonwalked back into him and fair'd him off the level!
it was one of those moments where you go, "i wish that was on a human, and i wish someone else saw that"

yosh, i am going to PM you with some links that will come in handy with yoshi. and if there is a smashfest before the tourny, and you go, i promise to spend some time helping you with your yoshi skills. i'm sure grav and some other people will help KE with his samus skills, too. my first smash tourny- everyone was nice to me, which was cool. it was also where i saw scud after not talking to him for three years. that was random, but was cool because now scud and i rejoice in smash and pizza quite often, because both are awesome.

lol yeah, the few times i fight computers i always get the best combos, but i might as well just put sandbag with AR and beat him up.

speaking of sandbag, im going to mention moveswap one more time, in that he can take pichus moves with little crashing, but i havent actually tried it.

but theres this slightly OCD-ish thought ive entertained, but never found any practical way to actually do, is to record everything i ever do on that game, that way if something awesome happens, id have it on tape. but thats too expensive to find some way to store it all, and buy the equipment and all that junk.

This really sucks.................there is a concert in Dallas with some bands I like on the 22nd :-/. IF it is at all possible it would be amazing if we could move it :-/. I just don't to miss either. Kuni come to my house this week . No but yet let's plan something if we can this week Kuni. Reno I freaking love you. Roy hates Yoshi.

just kidding. are you talking about blues traveler, scud, or something else? it's just funny because i was thinking about seeing blues traveler on the 22nd until the tourny was placed there. i'm sure there are more concerts on that day in dallas, so it oculd be something else, but knowing our coincidences, who knows.


and yeah, grav, wish i had video equipment, but then i think, if i'm not good enough to reenact it on a semi-regular basis, then i shouldn't tape it, as it does not reflect me in any way. it's pessimistic, but it's a way to not feel depressed by having no camera.

zinth, i could host any pics, videos, or audio you would need for your website, if you're making it yet. my sister owns a small hosting site, and as a matter of fact, hosted some stuff for the comedian dane cook once
so yeah, i'm trying to be...helpful and stuff. because that's who i am. quick rick. wait...i don't follow my own logic.


edit: yosh, i used to play link some, but really don't know anything, i just know how to drop and catch my own bombs quickly, how to do his "recovery bomb tech", and how to bair grab.
as far as roy goes, ask scud and rastaimposta, they are our roys.

either way, you know what's insane scud? my sister still hasn't come home for more than an hour since friday morning. i feel all lonely.

Haha. Yes, Melee has been a very good thing for me. I've met lots of new people this way.

Also, I can help anyone with pretty much any character. Maybe not with some as much as others can (Rasta would be a much better Ice Climbers tutor than I ), but I pretty much know the basics with them all. I'll be able to help you out the most though with Marth, Fox, Sheik, and Jigglypuff.

officially, nothing yet then until rasta comes back and posts something. semi-ficially(h3llsyeah i just made that a word), though, vega has 1 team, and reno(don't want to refer to myself in 3rd person but in context it seems right) is looking for a team. scud? rasta? kos-mos? anyone? come on, i'm really cool once you get to know me!

i think we can get at least 8 crews together with houston and all the newcomers this summer


edit: in reference to king eagle/yosh, i main CF and vegafuse is really good with him, so yeah, if your friend needs help i can try to answer any questions. hopefully he joins smashboards!

edit2: i think we have to be Oklahoma! Plain Smashers. the "!" in regards as a spoof to the rogers and hammerstein musical/our state song. because we're cool like that, spoofing things. i dunno, if someone has a grand idea, speak up. i'll sleep on it, see what i come up with.

so, do you guys(rasta/vega) need an approximate number of how many people will be there? if so you might as well start asking for signup about now. you want things to be set a couple of days before everything goes down, just in case something comes up, it will be less work to fix that 1 thing instead of fixing 1 thing plus doing other stuff.

Lol Reno and Yosh. I've started a list about a month ago but I haven't updated it in a while. So far a showing of 30-35 people is pretty much what's expected. The concern right now is actually getting a good supply of equipment. I say 10-12 TV's/Cube's each would be suffecient for a 12-hour tourny. I'll get the equipment sign-up list started and we could just update it in a "batonpass" fashion. I'll start:

i am cfalc- yoshi...and then, i suck with fox, link, marth, ness and jigglypuff, but i like them.
so i don't know if i am ready to pick a third. but i do want a third one, maybe a fourth, too, because i want a few counterpick options. 5 people to pick from, 2 to actually pick. and then i have to work that in with my yoshi and CF practice
hmm. fox takes a lot of time to get good with. so, he's not great if you have a lot of characters. and, forget ness, yoshi is low tier enough. it'll probably be jigglypuff and marth, but link is still in the running. what do you think, people?

marth is too....common, i guess. i mean everyones marth. probably link, he just has an aura of coolness, and a lot of projectiles, which would compliment falcon. maybe. hes also like the exact opposite of falcon. so who knows, all i know, is that he has a hard wavedash.

and jigglypuff would be cool too. and if im right, i think rest takes 1 frame, plus jiggs is crazy in the air. but youd have to watch out for roy, cuz i think he can kill jiggs at any percentage in one hit with revers up b.

if i was gonna pick between thos two id pick link though, but for some reason i have a feeling hed be harder to learn, and i dont know where they stand on the tier list

but yeah, ive commited to the long haul with fox, after 8 or so months(actually im not sure how long its been)with samus, its finally time to go on to two characters.

well, i've been talking to scud, and like, i know a lot with link, like bair grabbing, recovery bomb tech, and his wavedash is kind of easy for me. only perfect wavedashing i can do is with cfalc and link, not fox, marth, or yoshi for some reason, who i've all played with a lot. but my main worry is that fox pwns yoshi and cfalc, and samus is alright against both, so i need a character who can do well against them if cfalc can't because yoshi sure as hell can't. and so i think i will pick jigglypuff.

plus, my marth will never stack up to zinth's and shade's, because i can't incorperate wavedashing into mindgames like they can. that's probably why i play with cfalc and yoshi
cfalc barely needs to wavedash, unless it's into a grab maybe, and yoshi's wavedash is only good for moving away...so with jiggly it's like the same thing. i can wavedash just fine, but i can only use it to my advantage technically(and only mediocre), and not in mindgames. so blah.

okay, for now it's jigglypuff, and i will only give myself until the tourny on the 22nd to decide for sure. until then, i officially have only 2 characters.

Alright people I'm back from Las Vegas! It's about 3:20am right now and I'm tired(imagine that). Also, welcome Yosh and KE! I've seen Yoshi kick some major a** so I phear teh Yoshiness .

Alright people! My dad let me bring my Gamecube to Las Vegas so I could practice smash and my Peach is INSANE now(I even developed a good strategy against Samus ) I also decided to pick Link back up because Marth is n00b and I'm so glad I did. Moonwalking into a b-air then reverse moonwalking into a f-air is teh sexiness. I at least got 30+ hours of smashing in with Peach, Fox, Falco and Link(I was only in Las Vegas for what? 4 days lolol).

Well I'm going to bed, so I'll fill ya'll in on how my trip went tomorrow. Oh yeah, I got you that key chain Shade .

random, but, i would like to see a lot of this video taped, and i hope that zinth isn't the only cool camera-wielding person we have. so, if there's anyone else who can tape anything...speak up. i think scud has a camera, if so, i will gladly spend a couple of hours taping stuff when i am not smashing. and, i'll put in money for tapes/discs/video/film, too, if the cameras don't use memory sticks

anyway, 100th post, finally. my days of being a n00b are over!

and theres this crazy trick with samus for edgegaurding marth thats like, crazy. but im keeping it a secret for now.

i know scud has a camera, becuase we used it, and zinth has one. thats all im sure of, although, we can record it on vcr, and convert into a format for the computer. but that doesnt get the sound of the room, so its not the same.

also, youre probably get wavedashing into your mind games eventually, but its not something you can really practice. for me it just kind of fell in place one day, and know i cant not wavedash.
