Official Melee Texture Hack Thread

Hello first time doing this type of thing. I went to brawl vault and grabbed 2 sheik skins I liked and transferred them to melee textures. The result isn't perfect but i figured i'd post them. I did not make these textures, i merely took them from brawl vault.

That's really neat. So did you literally just extract out the PNG files and then replace them in the Melee DAT file with Melee Toolkit?

i wnt a flame red zelda and sheik on the Neutral costume just like on flame link, my Neutral keeps freezing wen i trnsform

Yeah had to do some rearranging/resizing but it turned out pretty decent. I will put them in correct format when i can

There were so many problems with this. It was actually frustrating.
1. The platform texture is transparent, white and grey. intertwined (not on top of) a green and yellow layer.
2. It's an I8 texture ( _1, white and black) not a CMPR (_14, colored).
3. Even when you change it, you mess up the arrows and lines around the Pokeball because they use the white texture as well.

In the stage below, the texture from the main floor is loaded onto the platforms above. This one just happens to be orange because I like orange. Unfortunately you lose those little yellow arrows on the top. I would suggest not messing with the other white texture at all (42 in steelia's pack).

everyone uses a very old and outdated version so here are some cleaned up alternatives

Great workaround! Did you switch texture pointer locations around to make this happen?

Also, just curious (for putting it in the 20XX pack), what code lines did you have switch for loading the textured Pokemon Stadium when playing on no transformations?

Changed two pointers, the file type (0x0 >> 0xe/ _0 to _14), and a byte that I THINK change transparency, not sure.

1. Make custom Pokemon Stadium Texture. (GrPs_custom.usd).
2. Rename it GrPs.dat and put it in the iso.
3. If MKI is picked, switch the GrPs.dat and GrPs.usd strings in the ram (the same way you do with trophies I think), and load pokemon stadium. Else skip, don't switch strings.

I attached my quickly thrown together notes with just a little more detail.

Would it be possible for someone to create horns for black shadow ganondorf (purple) in the way that ears were done for batman falcon?

Thanks dude. I've never switched file names in the last part of the RAM, like you did, and I was curious about it because the full name of GrPs.usd didn't show up anywhere else.

do you know if the grain (it makes the stage appear bumpy) is a texture by itself? I want to change it to be a wood plank texture, like a basketball court.

No, it's just a flat texture. And I really like the basketball court idea. Can't wait to see it.

I would be more than willing and able to photoshop it, but idk the first thing about importing and exporting stage textures...
It's just a CMPR image which means it's very easy to replace.

Download the Pokemon Stadium files from Steelia's Pack, and then follow this guide.

Once you replace your first CMPR image, you quickly realize that this can be accomplished in just a few minutes.

I'm in the process of making a Kirby skin, but every time he blinks he changes back to the costume's default color. How do fix? :C

Look at examples of other kirby skins to see what textures they changed.
When I try to open the .DAT in the toolkit, it just errors out and won't display textures. It does the same regardless of if it's just the .dat file or the melee disc image. I believe it does the same for Blue Falco and some others. I'm not too sure as I'm still extremely new to this.
