Also, does anyone else remember playing Doom for the first time and being completely floored by it? Hahaha!

I remember my father coming home with the first episode on shareware, and he was like... "it's a big game... I had to put it on two floppy disks." Too awesome.

i can't beleive im old enough for all these mediums to come and go out of existence so quickly. todays youth would probably have trouble identifying a floppy disc, vhs tape, cassette tape, etc

A friend recently asked if I had a "vhs player" he could borrow . How fast these things go from our minds.

I remember in elementary school, the teachers would chastise us if we touched it's metal part "because that's where all the data was".

Also, Roller Coaster Tycoon was the best PC game. You could be out at two in the morning smothering somebody to death with a pillow and suddenly be hit with this huge urge to just build a huge, kickass roller coaster. That feeling of building a masterpiece with 12/5/3 stats just sticks with you, man.

The only roller coaster game I played was Ultimate Ride, and it was pretty bad-*** too. You could submit your coasters online for other people to ride and download other people's stuff.

I have Doom 1 for DLC on my XBox and I've beaten the whole thing on every difficult except Nightmare so far, which I'm working on (almost done Episode 2). Doom is probably my second favorite FPS of all time, second only to Doom 2, which I really wish they would re-release for a console.

I'll be there early, but I'm not staying long, as it's my weekend to bake at work (Tim's), so I'm waking up REDICULOUSLY early both days.

Also, since Jordan is getting into the GG scene more, I'll be going full throttle with these tourneys. He's still responsible for replays and part of the ruleset, but everything else is on me. I should actually be obtaining my own laptop soon, so I could use that for stuff. I'll be handling registrations, and all questions and concerns should go towards me.

So, any questions or concerns?

GGs all around today everyone.

I gotta start playing offline more, I get too used to WiFi between bi-weeklies.

I remember the first time I experienced Doom, I actually felt motion sickness. And the gore! it was unheard of to see such violence in a game. Anybody want to play Doom online co-op? I'm not much for deathmatch. Final Doom, i think, is the version where you can play online and even aim with the mouse. Id totally be up for that :D

and LOL @ that ganon ditto

is there an estimate on when the next tourney will be?

If you have it as DLC for the XBox then yah, that'd be awesome. I don't have it on any other platforms atm, but I'm currently trying to get an emulator that'll allow me to play Doom and Doom 2 on my Mac.

Okay, here is an example:

George and Fred play each other in a tournament match.
George picks Harry Potter and Fred picks Voldemort.
Fred Slaughters George.
Fred stays as Voldemort.
George decides to go with Dumbledore, his secondary, who has a good MU against Voldemort.
Fred bans Hogwarts, since he lacks a decent projectile and sucks there.
Dumbledort than selects Platform nine and three quarters, because he has a chaingrab that works on Voldemort there for up to 90%. Also, the layout of the stage aside form the two walls were Dumbledort can CG is very similar to Hogwarts as it favors camping and is long and has no platforms. In the standard ruleset, Fred could switch out his character, so he could have more of an advantage. That's were your rulesets differ. In yours, Fred is stuck on his second worst stage where Dumbledore, George's character, has a great advantage on him there. In the current ruleset, Fred can now pick Grindelwald, who has a heavy matchup advantage on Dumbledore under normal circumstances. George know switches to ALberforth, his other secondary, who lacks Dumbledore's CG but has a good matchup against Gellert ( Grindelwald. )Fred stays the same as he is confident he could beat George even now.

Please replace all Harry Potter terms with Brawl terms on your own.
Possibly the best post in the history of Smashboards. Taken from Tactical.

I repectfully disagree. It's certainly clever but as someone not into Harry Potter it doesnt have much zing. It's only a great post if you like HP ;P

haha you must have been saving that post for such an occasion xD

On a completely unrelated and lolzy note, I have a new contest to give you guys a chance at some cookies. I found out a way to get infinite max combos in training mode as Ike, no hax or cheats or anything. Probably works with any character but I've only tested it with Ike. First person to guess how gets cookies.
I may actually bring cookies to one of our get-togethers.

Hint: It basically has to be done on Shadow Moses or New Pork City to be infinite.

I assume it has something to do with regenerative collapsible stage elements? Since that's the only thing I can think of that those two stages have in common.

SMI has walkoffs, but NPC doesn't...SMI's ceiling is kinda low while NPC's ceiling is difficult enough to even find...SMI is a small stage, NPC is fkn huge...I guess both of them have low platforms, but then it should be easy to do on BF or SV...It could be a wall infinite (that's actually infinite since SMI and SV don't change their screens, unlike every other legal stage that does. Then again, Ultimate Chimera might have something to say about that)...the only thing those two stages really have in common that no other stage has are the collapsible walls and floor, but even then that's a stretch.

I downloaded it, but I'm not entirely sure how to actually run Doom through it. I'll try and figure it out but it may take a bit of time.

As for my cookie contest, it does have to do with the walls. It was just a fluke that they both happen to have breakable stuff too, lol. You could even do this on a custom stage that just has a floor and a single, considerably high wall.

So it works? I can explain how to run doom on it, its pretty easy actually. Are you familar with DOS at all?

When you launch the program if you type /dir its empty. You have to mount a drive. So you create a virtual C: by typing the command....hmmm, this is from memory so i might be off...

/mount C: C:\games

So then when you type the command to switch to the C drive, its the contents of the folder you chose, games in the example. You just point it to the parent folder that holds the Doom game folder.

So it would be something like...

/mount C: C:\games
C:
cd doom
doom

And that's it. It runs doom.exe as if it was DOS. The mount command might be /mount c c:\.... Now...as for online play... I wonder if it even works in dosbox xD now that I run that thought through my brain it probably doesn't. Unless the program itself is designed to automatically recognize your hardware(modem) from Windows. I'l have to look at that, im way too tired right now.

******

On another matter, I need some advice. I have a HP Media Center PC with a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC/ATSC Combo TvTuner card. Its got the yellow/white/red input on the front. Is it possible for me to hook any game system up to it and record the video? Or does the card only accept TV signal? Its not a capture card..but maybe there's someway, some program that can record the video feed

o.o figured it out. awesome, now i can record matches
