Im a ssb64 player, and now my friends are buggen me to switch over to melee. But none of them can answer the questions that I need to know. They cut it off at "random" or they refuse to experiment. They just want to play matches, and yet I find an iron wall against joining in because there is too much that is left in the dark.

I don't liked being sandbagged, I don't like people going easy on me/etc. SO im not going to pick up a controller if Im just treated that way. And I truly feel that there is so much going on in melee, that a proper answer could be found, but they either can't tell me, or won't show me because they just want to fight.

For the time I have played, I used peach....... But when I realized that I couldn't predict what item she would pull out to do her f-smash I got frustrated. So, can anyone here tell me if there is a dif to the golf club/fan/frying pan? Do these weapons make a difference? How do you predict them? If it is random in choice, what are the odds?

Whats the odds of getting something other then a turnip from the down B for peach?

Can Ganondorf get back from the final cloud (on the right) on Yoshi's island?

Is there a separate % bar for the girl ice climber? Or does the impact of a hit work off of the guy?

I don't feel comfortable playing a game where I press a button and a random outcome occurs..... so I'd rather know strait off. If the truth is that there is more random elements that effect basic play, please post them, or bring them to light on this thread.

Ok for peach her different f-smashes have different knockbacks and getting something other then the turnip is around .3% but ill wait for a peach main to come and explain.

Ganon with the use of his down b can make it back to the stage but yoshi island 64 is banned at tournies so don't worry much about it

Nana does in fact have her own % so you can keep smacking her around without worrying about wasting moves.

The only things in the game that are random are peach's turnips, luigis side b, and g&w's judgement hammer, which all almost will never take a part in basic gameplay

Does peach's different f-smash items have different hurtbox range then the next? I doubt the golf club is as short as the frying pan, but idk, melee could just be visually dif, yet the same range yeah know?

The golfclub has the most range, but gives the least knockback. The frying pan does a ****load of vertical knockback, and the Racket does a good amount of horizontal knockback. But honestly, people barely ever use that move. >_>

There's youtube videos on all the characters hit and hurtboxes but nothing is too out of their desired place. Most of the time, there some things excluded such as ganons weird hitbox on his up b.

And yes peachs golfclub out of all the items, her golfclub sends people at more of a 45° angle, the frying pan sends them straight up, and the tennis racket sends them at a more straight forward angle, i may not be right but im pretty sure this is how it is

Well is it the difference between the C-stick and charging to change equipment? Because ETWIST said that most people don't use the move. Do you mean the f-smash in general, or a specific the racket?

peach's fsmashes cycle. i forget the order, but if you pay attention you can always know what is next. they go in order. it's not a very good move though. it has a few uses but it's pretty rare to see it.

Yeah, they have different hitboxes. Actually, if you use the golf club, you can stand under some platforms and hit people above if you're spaced correctly.

HA HA!!!!! So there is a cycle!!! Sweet. these are the things I want to know. Not random, thank god.

Oh, here is some random ssb64 knowledge that transfers to Melee. The congo jungle level thats in both, one of the platforms in the center has the same horizontal motion/timing as the barrel. Just incase ur interested in catching the barrel a little easier.

O what moves are good with peach for a new player? I can't really grab in melee, it always feeled like a gimped move.... I like throws to kill...... and they lag out....... its just a bias of ssb64, but how do you guys think of grabbing that makes it easier to do in melee?

@mastermoo: these are also the things I want to know.

Now that i know its a bad move to just keep using f-smash, I can find the cycle, then predict the next, and use it in weird ways like mastermoo was suggesting. This is ssssssssssssssoooooo much more helpful then "random".

thx to all the posters for the detail, and please keep telling me info. I never like to step into a game without knowing whats happening, so this is like opening the door.

I fsmashed 30 times and wrote my results down in time. The only discovery made was that I didn't get the same thing twice in a row ever. I'm pretty sure whatever you used last you can be sure to not use next time. I looked at the hitboxes and Pan=Racket, but Club has an extra hitbox increasing its range a bit. They take the same amount of time too, so the move is basically always the same thing with a variation in knockback and range. Then again I was just watching some footage from APEX of Armada (consesus best peach player in the world) playing, and he used fsmash once out of 10~ games, and even then it was a bad move choice on his part. So it may be kinda random but don't use it.

Turnips:
1/58 for a stichface (most powerful turnip)
1/300 for a bom-omb, beam sword, or mr saturn

all the other turnips are the same except for wink and dot eyes turnips do a little more damage Yes its random, but its not like you don't know what to expect when you pull up a turnip, expect a normal one, and if you get something special take advantage of your gift.

PS SSB64 is awesome but SSBM is awesome--er so have fun!

Most grabs in melee are more suited for starting combos or for tech-chasing. If you have a grab that puts the opponent lying down (think Sheik's d-throw on fastfallers or Falcon's d-throw), you can read which way they roll and re-grab them as they stand up. Yes, killing throws are mostly a thing of the past. Few of them have enough knockback, but they're still very useful, just with a very different use.

Talking strictly Peach, though...he best attributes are her aerial mobility and high-preference aerial attacks. Her nair and bair are extremely useful, epecially defensively and her fair has ******** knockback/hitstun. Her ground game is weaker, often reduced to well-timed dash attacks and downsmashes against good oppenents.

Oh ya also Peach's forward throw is one of the only throws useful for killing, its the 2nd strongest *normal throw in the game next to Ness's Back throw. She's the only high tier with a good killing throw so if you NEED a killer throw she's a good character for you. Just don't think you're 64 pikachu, backthrow and think your gonna kill someone with it.

* bowser's forward b back throw and ganon's up b are stronger, other decent throwers horizontally are Doc/Mario's back throw and mewtwo's backthrow, vertically only Mewtwo's uthrow is really worth anything.

What about Mewtwo's upthrow? I've heard it's based off fallspeed rather than actual character weight, but man, that thing can be hella strong. Just wondering how exactly that fits into the "strongest throws" equation. Anybody know the math on it?

There is not a cycle. Where did you get that from?
well, I got it from the post FoxLisk put up. He said you can predict the next one..... so unless he has physic powers, I assumed a cycle, or an order to the attack change.

I will look through the forum that Nude posted, but these are more about the game then peach, it just got side tracked to peach......

Its more about eliminating the answer of "Random" in melee, and I think peach is one of the better examples of a character that has random attributes to her moves.

Thx Stratocaster for the low-down, and yes, I am a practical player who only expects turnip pulls. I do like the fact that her throw can kill, and Im actually a Ness/kirby player in the original (lotta jiggpuff for the lolz though) which is why I need lighter characters.

Thx again to all the posters, if I have more questions I will dig through the forums for it first, but Im glad to see melee players answering my questions.
