I have been surveying university students about anime, manga, and video games for an art project. The most frequent names that pop up are One Punch Man, Naruto, and Fortnite so far. I wonder what makes the latter so popular of a game. I hear about it as much as Overwatch lately. The main question that will come for is which Fortnite character I should draw. I have no idea who to draw, but I guess I will draw based on who looks the most appealing to me.

>Asterios, a Berserker, taking 0 damage from a NP
What the ****

They say Mordred is still lost inside the labyrinth even today.
Here's the general idea. Asterios' Noble Phantasm gives a 20% ATK Debuff and 10%-25% DEF Debuff depending on Overcharge for 6 turns. However, Asterios has an Interlude that buffs up his NP, giving an additional 40% Debuff to both ATK and DEF for 1 turn, meaning on the 1 turn, the enemy gets a 60% ATK Debuff and a 50% DEF Debuff. Than, Asterios' Natural Demon skill, his second one, at Level 10 gives a 40% DEF Boost. This allows Asterios to take next to no damage from the enemy.
There's also the fact that the first ATK & DEF Debuffs stick around for 6 turns, meaning that the enemies can potentially and eventually get stuck with a whole bunch of ATK debuffs that add up to 100%, meaning that if Asterios continually keeps activating his NP every turn, the enemy ain't going to be doing jack squat to him, even if Asterios doesn't have Natural Demon on him.
What's actually terrifying is how absolutely easy it is to level up Asterios' skills. Besides the 6 Gems each(for each higher Gem included), Asterios also requires 15 Proof of Heroics, 6 Octuplet Crystals, 16 Void Dust and 10 Yggdrasil Seeds before using a Crystal Lore to get one skill up to Level 10. Asterios is the best 1-Star and a precious cinnamon roll to boot as well.

I don't know anything about Fortnite. For shooters I liked Team Fortress 2 and Halo, that's about it.

I wonder if the shooter age will ever end. It just seems to be THE game now

The battle royale genre was always pretty popular, creeping up in BS like H1Z1, I believe, or a similar game, I never followed that garbage. Once PUBG came out, it was the first real game to capitalize on the hype, but it was bland, boring, PC exclusive and paid. Fortnite, a failing Epic project about wave based survival took a chance and ripped it off in a free to play format. So now everyone could get on the hype train for free in a game that did not look like it came from the Ps2 era. Beyond that, games such as Overwatch and Call of Duty are failing. The former, because it releases a character every four months (**** you Blizzard) and the latter because Activision (which I suppose when you really think about it, Activision probably ruined Overwatch too... And Destiny). Other than that, Battlefield 1 is 2 years old or something to that effect and Halo is basically dead. So there is no real competition for that piece of **** game outside of Counter Strike and Rainbow Six which are hyper competitive (that scares Fortnite players to death) to have taken over.

"Hey you hear about that PUBG game? There is a free version that's on every ****ing system ever and it can be played on toasters"

People love to play what's everyone's playing and there is like 0 barrier to entry and the battle royale concept is popular.

2D platformers hit their peak in the Super Nintendo/Mega Drive era, and became less main stream in the Saturn/Playstation/Nintendo 64 era, don't worry, shooters should become less mainstream in the next generation, hopefully.

People say that, and then you get to the last round with someone who has a super fort and the rare sniper. You try shooting at someone and they have an infinite (well, however much wood they have collected) wall barrier that makes them literally invincible. It is pretty damned easy and a party game, but you have to learn how to build and I am just not invested enough to try and learn it. Oh, and it killed one of my favorite games and leeches players and content creators from games I do enjoy, such as Overwatch.

To be fair...2D platformers became less popular because 3D platformers became a big thing with video gaming's transition into 3D...

FPS games aren't going anywhere unless there's something better that will divert players away from the genre...which isn't likely to happen anything soon...

People hating on Fortnite is just proof people will hate whatever is popular for the sake of being popular.

Honestly, MOBA are already taking over. The only real reason it has not, as of yet, is because the genre is nearly (Smite exists) PC/mobile exclusive. Therefore, it has not penetrated mainstream gaming as a whole. But games such as Overwatch, which is a shooter utilizing MOBA-esque elements are making it more and more apparent. Shooters will never die, but, in the grand scheme of things, more people play MOBA. It is a real surprise more developers do not take advantage of that. But then again, the industry is blatantly incompetent as a whole.

Oh, yeah, Fortnite's biggest haters, PUBG, the hyper popular game, Call of Duty, the best selling franchise, and Overwatch, the phenomenon, players hate popular things. I swear, it is almost as though there is some mandatory brain scrambling party that I missed.

I’m not a fan of shooters honestly so that’s all.
That is fair enough; however, I would argue that Fortnite is hardly even a shooter. It is much more reminiscent of an open-world resource management survival game with guns and a building mechanic that is more important than actual gunplay. But hey, that is just me being overly pedantic.

What in the world are you two talking about.
He is having an existential crisis about windows, not unlike myself going through my own personal (shared amongst thousands) existential crisis about Fortnite and how repugnant its existence truly is and whether life is worth living in a world where that game is somehow THE game that represents gaming and by extension... myself.

This sentence reminded me of this picture

Just let the thing be, I have tried it and didn't like it, but if people find it fun, then better for them right?

Thank you for the "Great List of Haters" but I don't think it adds anything to the conversation.

I didn't use to like FPS games. That changed in my teenage years.

Team Fortress 2, Half-Life and Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead, Borderlands 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, DOOM, Overwatch, etc.

TF2 is easily my favorite of the bunch, though I like the rest a lot as well. I actually mentioned that I wanted to play HL2 again the other day, so I decided to do just that, though starting with finishing a save I have of Episode Two. The final battle in Episode Two is epic.

I don't see a problem with Fornite. I might give it a try at one point since it's free, but it really doesn't catch my interest, alongside PUBG. But I'm not against the industry trying new things, cause it potentially means that others will improve upon them and make some interesting things. So while I may not be entirely interested in the Genre now, it doesn't mean that it won't ever. I mean, part of why I want to try Fortnite is it's style, but it doesn't have me convinced fully.

Admittingly, Paladins Battlegrounds has me a bit interested, although it's mostly cause it's a fantasy-styled like game, which I will admit, I like fantasy more than Sci-fi or modern. But the currant state it is in doesn't have me fully interested as it looks rather bare-bones. There's another one that somewhat interests me, I believe it was called the Darwin Project where it combines both the Battle Royale as well as actual Survival elements like Hunger meters and whatnot.

But there is quite a bit of potential on what could really interest me in a Battle Royale. I did mention the Fate series, as the original Fate/Stay Night's setting was a Battle Royale setting. Another thing that could interest me in a Battle Royale and that practically begs for it is a Monster Battle Royale game, ala Godzilla. I mean, the Godzilla movies are practically Monster Rumbles and Battle Royales. A Kaiju/Monster Battle Royale game actually sounds pretty dang cool, especially with Giant monsters getting back up in popularity, as shown with Godzilla, King Kong and the Monsterverse. Heck, even Rampage got an ok reception.

I can and I will. Asterios is the best 1-star! I can say this after how awesome he was in Okeanos, how great he was in his Interlude and after his absolutely heartwarming Ascension 4 dialogue. Oh, and the fact that Theseus is a decent guy as when he found out that Asterios was human, he talked and stood by Asterios' side when he was dying and Theseus actually said to him, "I want to save you." Also,

Who knows? :3
Speaking of TF2, I have put nearly 3,000 hours of my life into playing that game.

Please send help before it completely consumes my soul.
If anything, you should send help to me: I almost have 5,500 hours in that game and have quit for good at this point. :p

Man, this reminds me of how far it has steered away from the Battle Royal setting. I kinda want to see it go back to the style which is partially why I want to see a Prototype adaptation.

Asterios is a good boy but he can't surpass the memes greatness of the REGEND.
Ok but real talk, it's really not the memes that make me love him so much, F/SN is the main reason for it. He's a honorable badass who distorted reality because he had nothing better to do. Then you add how he knows he isn't actually Kojiro as a Servant and how he sees himself as empty, only seeking a duel to try to fill that.
It's why I can't wait for Shimosa, I really want to see more of him. He managed to captivate me with the little screentime he had so I can't wait to see what they do with him when he's arguably one of the main focus of a chapter.
Yes it does. It literally contradicts your point that people hate on it solely because it is popular. WTF?
Uhm, no, it doesn't? Are you saying your point is "these are the haters and as such your argument is invalid" because I'm ????
