There's no way this wasn't intentional.

But yeah, when you think about it, Scorpion is generic as ****. MKX and MK11 helped at making him an actual character, which is nice, but it was too little, too late and involved... basically removing everything that made Scorpion the person he was in previous games, which wasn't much anyway.

You can technically say that they killed off Scorpion and replaced him with his human form Hanzo.

In comparison, Sub-Zero's had some legit stuff, from an aggorant apprentice wanting to take over his clan to finding out that his dead brother has become a demon of darkness on top of having to deal with the generic vengeful guy who came back from the dead known as Scorpion since MK2, he's had a ton of **** to go through.

And the fact that he tries to deal with those in non-lethal ways is actually surprising for the franchise and just shows that behind the viciousness, there's heart.

In all fairness, Liu Kang was always pretty divisive.

Generic personality, Bruce Lee-type screams can get annoying, has no reason to fight other than "Raiden says so" or "I wanna impress a lady", etc.

Then they kill him off... only to bring him back as a zombie... on both timelines.

And on the second one, he becomes literally Satan, with the same generic personality he had before.

Liu Kang's always sucked. Even Kung Lao feels like a more interesting character and he just ends up as Liu Kang's second fiddle every time.
