I open up the game. Got Mokka from Magical Vacation as my first Spirit.

First thing I go to is the Music. And I find there is actually Culdcept Revolt music in Smash.

Pretty sure there was Culdcept music in Smash 4.

Though I think one of the two(?) in there is new to Smash.

Regarding Spirits, I got Don Flamenco as my first (Mecha Ridley was my second, bought from the Shop).

I've never even touched a Persona game but I love how wrong people were about DLC. Never act like you know exactly who Smash will get into Smash next.

That's what I meant. There was a Culdcept remix in Smash 4 and now there is a track from Culdcept Revolt in Smash. Combined with the fact that there are some Culdcept spirits, it makes the fan in me happy.

Anyway, I don't know if it was ever mentioned or confirmed, but looking at the Rulesets you can make, you can turn on Spirits. Nice for those who like the idea of Spirits and want to have fun with the idea of imagining playing the Spirit character. Or want to use their effects for gimmick battles.

I was right. But to see this as the only thing Nintendo commented on besides Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is a disappointment to my own being. The character and game of origin, I don't really care for. Obviously it should be stressed that I'm not throwing a temper tantrum but more so just saying it's not my thing. More power to you if you like it. No Bayonetta 3 information (unironically the only upcoming game I care about on Switch) or even Metroid is unfortunate, but I was expecting these to not show up, so I'm just bummed, not super-mega-ultra pissed off.

I look forward to (subjectively) more exciting projects releasing in the following years. I think I'm growing out of Smash, maybe. It should still be fun but I don't see it as the type of thing I want to play extensively. I don't care too much for the DLC as I'm content enough with the vanilla game but that's me. Feels weird to say it on SMASHboards. Well, at least I should be able to give the new game a try. Eventually.

With the news about the remaining DLC fighters being characters that are new IPs, it gave me a new surge of hope in seeing Professor Layton in Smash, a character who looks a lot more likely now with this news!

I feel like, if they want to properly represent Persona (and let's face it, they do), Joker will be kind of a stance changer. Something like Shulk, but instead of specifically changing his stats, he switches the elements of his attacks.

I would guess that he'll have six Personas: Arsene (Curse), Jack Frost (Ice), Pyro Jack/Jack o' Lantern (Fire), Pixie (Electricity), Kelpie (Wind) and Angel (Bless).

As for how that would influence his playstyle... well, that's not my job.

I was quite happy to see an animated trailer for his reveal.

Not just animated, but animated by the team who did Persona V's animations.

All "Wildcards" (the kind of Persona user that Joker is) are able to use more than one Persona (though they start with only one. Arsene in Joker's case). They gain more Personas by allying themselves with NPC Personas (sort of like Pokémon, in a way).

Within gameplay, Personas are moreso the conduit through which the Persona user uses magic spells. Though many are able to attack physically (e.g. Arsene has the spell "Cleave", which is Physical Damage), Morgana's Persona Zorro has a Sword, etc.

The Persona users usually have weapons of their own, in Joker's case he uses Swords, and all the Phantom Thieves also use a type of Gun specific to them (Catapult in Morgana's case).

I'd say it's fairly accurate, though I'm hardly an expert on the subject (I've only watched LPs of Persona 4, 5 and Arena).

I think it's moreso that both the Persona and the User are capable of fighting, so both descriptions are accurate.

Anyway, if they'd revealed another character the userbase had been clamoring for to some or another degree but had written off as never getting in Smash after the roster reveal - I'm thinking along the lines of Ridley and KKR, in this case could perhaps now include Issac, Shantae, Elma, Rex/Pythra, Geno, maybe Bandanna Dee - then I'd say cool, we're getting someone new and interesting and it sounds like we had some kinda idea of who was in.

But no, we got Joker. And let me say - I love this so much, for so many reasons. But I would not have taken that bet, ever, under any circumstances.

This being the flavor of the DLC they're aiming for suggests to me that the latter declaration - characters that you would not expect - is significantly more impactful on this point than "new to the series" (which, to echo Mythra , is at this point redundant).

I'm expecting either 3rd parties or a deep, deep, deep dive into Ninty's back catalog. And my money's more on the former than latter.

For my part, I'm kind of excited just due to the utter chaos the speculation thread's probably in. And also that they got shut the **** up. Column A, column B.

Technically, we already know every character in the game has a Spirit, but it can be reasonably assumed that they're similar to the Classic/Adventure/Whatever trophies from past entries and are thus special cases. Nevertheless, I'm not treating it as a hard deconfirm at this time.

What I am treating it as is a vastly reduced chance, since the Joker reveal and the lack of a PP Spirit in the base game suggests to me that they'd rather add content not even tangientally in the game with these packs, and I suspect the DLC list was presented with the Spirit list in mind.

I'm more antsy for Rivers in the Desert, personally. Or Awakening. Maybe a Tokyo Emergency or Layer Cake remix. It's hard to go wrong with P5 as long as you run uptempo tracks.

But if they really want me to hit that sonic Nut button, I'll see Price and The Days When My Mother Was There on that list.

I'd pick up a pocket Joker just to beat people's asses to either one.

I gave Inkling a try, and I have to say.

People who like the "Woomy" soundbite are going to really like Inkling Girl, because she says it quite a bit (it's definitely in F-Smash*, I think she says it in F-Tilt and Down Taunt, as well as a few others).
*Considering it's part of her F-Smash, she says it when swinging the Ore Club, and I assume she says it when swinging the Home-Run Bat too.
