In an interview get even said the game didn’t sell to their windiest dreams but was solid. This graph shows otherwise. This is from when 2 million units were sold.

Europe and North America account for most of the sales so japan didn’t not like the game that well.

Well for one.

Arle was on of the top contenders for japan from the ballot. So the chance really isn’t wrong with how easy it be to get here.

as for Geno. He got a 50/50 as a unique fighter and like 60 as an echo. They said it could happen not that push fully thought That. They later retracted the echo part because push realized that whoever did the interview translated stuff wrong or something among those lines.

As indivual scores are made by whoever does it, while opinions vary per person. But I’m the articles on source gaming talking shovel knight it’s well thought he was not received well.

And sure japan is tiny but they could have definitely done better. It’s not the worse sale figures but not the best. I don’t think it was enough for Sakurai to take notice and know well who he was. The assist trophy probably came about from the western side of things:

Friendly reminder that Japan's console market has been declining for years, so for an unknown property to them like Shovel Knight moving 450,000 units is actually really commendable.

It's considered great for a game to sell a mere 100,000 units on launch week in Japan.

So I'm not the only one who find Source Gaming's Rate The Character to be really meh all around? Like some of the character they review feel like filler to me, I get that it's the fan that ask for them, but what's the point of rating characters who really have no real chance at all? Like Devil or Barbara? Especially if you don't bring up many good point for their inclusion and just say "Yeah, they could be nice, but there is just too many thing against them, so no".

Not to say that everything they do is bad, but those type of videos in particular are like the "obligatory" videos they need to put on so that their subscribers have something to watch until the better but harder to make videos are made. Which isn't a bad thing per say, long good video takes times I get that, but I feel like they could do better than that.

This is fair but as I said above, shovel knight flopped in japan ultimately making that work pointless. The east likes him still but not west which ultimately hurt him if I had to guess and is why he’s an assist.

I know that, but I feel like they could expand a bit more on why so and so characters could have a chance, sometime I feel like their videos are just too short, but maybe that's just me.
