You got to love all the different ways to attack the problems in this game.

One Shrine required me to set a door on fire (it was being held by wood and there were two of those fire lanterns hanging) but after running out of arrows (I was very low on them in the first place) and just giving up on ripping off the lanterns with Magnesis, I just threw a halberd I had at the door and that broke the piece of wood.

That moment I realized that the "right' way is not always the only way with this game.

-Escape chapter with Falcon Knights triple attacking you from the mountains with Clerics Rescuing them back in
-Fog of War map where the same type of unit has capped stats and the other has full 0s
-Seize map in a labyrinth with Thracia 776's Fog(non litted areas are completely obscured) where you have to get to the throne before the boss
-Boat map
-Defeat a weak boss protected by an incredibly strong enemy unit and escape back to the exit before he catches you
-Huge ass fortress storming that actually requires strategical thinking
-Final-boss-material is locked in a room with your main lord and the Jagen and you have to unlock it before she ****ing kills you

I think I have too many ideas that'll never become a reality

If the units were preset by the creator, it'd obviously need to be cleared before uploading like in MM

So for any Fire Emblem fans here that know Ghast, he's recently started a series called "Support Science" where he takes a character and examines whether or not a character is good or not, or will analyze something unique about a character fans might've not known prior, based on his/her support conversations.

Ghast uploaded a new Support Science episode, and it examines Xander. It's worth the watch:

Two things you should know about the video before watching it:
1) Language warning: Ghast occasionally drops some foul language, but it is very minimal.
2) Video contains story spoilers from all three routes.

It was a very interesting episode overall. He argues that Xander is two different characters: Support!Xander and Story!Xander. Support!Xander is the well-written and likable Xander, while Story!Xander is the detestable and badly portrayed Xander. He also talks about how these two different Xanders demonstrate the flaws in Fates' writing. The video ultimately made me rethink how I thought about certain events in the story differently than I previously did.

I know there's a good number of people here, including myself, who really like Xander as a character, so that's why I decided to share it with you all here. Do you think Ghast raises a good point about Xander here? Did it change your opinion on the character? I'm interested in hearing everyone's opinions on what Ghast argues in this video.

I've been watching these videos myself. I skimmed past Conquest and Revelations spoilers because I haven't finished those (Conquest is in progress right now, then I'll do Revelations sometime after), but I find myself agreeing with most of what he says in these videos, especially this one.

I know I've probably sounded like I think Fates is a perfect game in my posts about it, but that's far from the case. While I have very little issues with the gameplay, which is what's kept me hooked (alongside the instances of strong characterisation), the story and characterisation can be quite weak at times. Overall, Conquest does feel much weaker than Birthright in regards to it's story and characters. While I didn't find Birthright's story particularly compelling, it at least works conceptually, even it plays by the book too much. And even then, it has it's moments.

I've literally only had one scene in Conquest's main story so far (I'm on Chapter 19) where I actually felt sad for a character, and it was actually one of the Birthright characters anyway. The only one of the Conquest characters I think is handled well in the main story is Leo - his portrayal is consistent with his supports and even his portrayal in Birthright (after your battle with him of course), and he's overall pretty likable, even relatable at points. I'd say he's probably the best handled character of the main cast (Xander would be if his story portrayal wasn't so terrible all-around, and Elise could have been if she wasn't flanderised in Conquest).

And I know it's a Nintendo game, but the way the game goes out of it's way to tell us that we didn't kill a single soul (in most cases) during the battles with the enemy armies almost every time is ludicrous. It's something that's way too unbelievable for this kind of game, and is basically some Gundam Seed: Destiny tier Mary Sue writing. It serves no purpose other than making the game more suitable for younger audiences, which is ridiculous since Fire Emblem SHOULD be Nintendo's "mature" franchise (not that it should be M-rated, but it should be willing to tackle darker subjects and not be shy to being more violent than other Nintendo franchises). It becomes especially stupid when they introduce someone like Peri, who's entire personality revolves around her obsession with killing (btw, I totally agree with Ghast on her being the worst character in terms of writing and concept, she's awful and brings down other characters like Xander and Leo due to her supports with them).

Also, the big twist in Chapter 15 of Conquest, and how the story from that point revolves around it, is actually ridiculous. I can't fathom how the writers thought that made sense.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's because otherwise there'd be no "justification" for Corrin's actions because Hoshido is in the right. Seriously tho, Zola would have ended the whole war but somehow taking prisoners is dishonorful. They prefer killing their kwn troops instead of the Hoshido Royal family and there's no way any of those poor Generals following their orders were left alive when Leo killed Zola so Garon wouldn't know.

It's all in Japanese, but they're apparently "considering" releasing an English version. I've played around with it a bit myself, it's a pretty decent tool, and easy to work with (if you can get past the language barrier), but it's more in the style of older FE games than newer ones. And, like others have mentioned, if you don't balance it properly, you're going to end up with some pretty daft situations.

I forgot to mention that as well. Conquest makes you feel like crap for siding with Nohr. There's very little making the decision to side with Nohr justified beyond "my Nohrian siblings raised me and they'd be sad if I left them". Which isn't very compelling a reason when only Leo is portrayed as at least a decently compelling and competent character throughout the story. Xander is basically just racist to Hoshidans throughout most of Conquest for no good reason (yeah Ryoma and Takumi are like this towards Nohrians, but at least they have a valid reason to develop a hate for Nohrians - which they end up developing past throughout Birthright anyway), Elise is a flanderised moe-blob in Conquest (while she's fantastic in Birthright and I'd consider her the true hero of the story), and Camilla is Camilla.

And then Chapter 15 rolls around, and I wonder if Azura is alright in the head (though I didn't like her in Birthright either).
