Would you play a Smash-like platform-fighting game that was more competitively built, but also had original characters instead of Nintendo characters?

Oh yeah, 3D btw, cause I know RoA is a thing.

It all depends on if I like the characters gameplay wise and design wise, and if I like the game's artstyle overall.

Part of my issue with all the games that tried to be a new, competitive platform-fighter is that they all just look lame. Even if the gameplay is good, I'm just not interested in the character designs for RoA or whatever Wavedash games is cooking up. And then there's PSABR that, while the character designs are cool, the overall artstyle of the game is just ugly (plus the game isn't all that great anyways).

Then you look at something like Guilty Gear, Tekken, Street Fighter, etc. everyone looks cool and/or interesting.

Yeah, I haven't drawn the wolf side yet. Idea is she can build the meter up, and use it up for extra strong special moves that partially turn her into a wolf, like her arm for example. Or build it all the way, and transform into a full werewolf for a limited time. It's also a play on the Red Riding Hood tale, so she's both the red hooded girl, AND the wolf. Though her back story isn't that at all. It's just homage.

But yeah, me and Che agree that it's gotta have lots of waifu-bait to appeal to anime fans, but the waifus still have to be cool, and a bit gnarly in their own right, not just moe-moe garbage.

Every character I play is blonde haired, blue eyed. And if they aren't, then I choose a skin that makes them at least blonde haired. It's something i didn't even notice until my roommates pointed it out.

My strategy in fighting games is typically very throw oriented so I usually pick characters with good throws even if they aren't dedicated grapplers.

Oh, something I should mention here, as I got flak due to distaste towards TLOU. A friend of mine is a big fan of the game and I snapped at him about the bull**** ending and said what I'd do to make it an effective bittersweet ending, and my friend just couldn't argue against me. I tend to go for masculine brolic types. I usually like good normals, ease in execution and gameplay, command grabs, invincible reversals, etc.

Now that I think about it, 2 seasons had timey wimey stuff. Ironically Kamen Rider Paradox (he debuted last week) wasn't in any. Meaning if you want an aesthetical reference too, it's either a train guy or a beetle. And even How I Met Your Mother referenced KR, so yeah

GG, SF, etc... all these seem to have very visually striking designs because they feel very familiar and memorable, while at the same time being unique in their own right. People might bash spiky hair, beltbuckles, and giant swords all they want, but there's a certain something to Japanese design that just clicks.

I think mostly rushdowns for me. I like being on the offensive.

In GG, I like Sol, Jam, and Baiken the most. In Blazblue, Noel is my fave. In Smash, Falcon, Marth, and Cloud. In SF, Cammy and Ryu. In Soul Calibur, Tira, and Cervantes.

Don't think I'll have to worry too much as there has been a Dr. Mario game for every major console in some form (except Game Boy Color & Virtual Boy).

Perhaps. I've always seen OW to be more Pixar-esque than anime though. Although, their 2D portraits are very anime. I suppose it just depends on if it's 3D or 2D.

I've also always felt like between the two arcsys fighters, Guilty Gear was the least weeby. I'm not entirely sure what it is though.

It's funny you mention that Trigun character being the inspiration for the first design, he's the one I first thought of with his look and being a priest. It's hard to rate the character without a more detailed design like the other have, both of which I really like. Especially the concept of the fused red riding hood. In fact, I'd suggest potentially doing more twists or opposites of well known stories without, as you said with the girl, actually using that story--just as a homage in design, which will go a long way to make them memorable and interesting while also leaving room for you to bring in your own ideas. I'll have to sit on that concept myself some time. As an aside, I like your futuristic Link clone lol. Don't be too afraid to have a character look similar to a popular video game character. So long as he doesn't come off as a knock-off or straight rip-off, it can actually serve in your favor in my opinion, for the same reason that paying homage can, except even better because the associated media is relevant.

As for battler suggestions, I'd also have to sit on that for a while. All I can say at the top of my head right now is what I had for my Ghirahim move-set way back in the day lol. Always thought my core idea had potential. I had it so where he had standard a and b moves, along with all of their directions. But if the player does the move, and before the lag ends--inputs the exact same input, an extra move comes from it. Doesn't sound too original as it's basically like a combo, but what I was thinking was that it would give you an option of potentially preparing the initial move to unleash the second as the opener, or come into situations where you have to decide whether it's right to activate the second part at all. I had instances where the follow-up was either very slight and not wholly distinct from the primary attack, or it completely attacks in the opposite direction or moves you away etc.

P.S. You're getting a Nintendo Switch whether you like it or not.
