As long as you are on the right side of the war, and not SO BAD that you are worthy of being sacrificed you are set. You get to be a benchwarmer without issue until you win.

Being someone like Lowen in FE7 is perfect.

Exactly. 70% of the units I get always get benched because I just don't really care about them.

If I was one of them that would be great. Just watch all the broken units wreck everyone and explore the world.

Yeah, but it'd be a "real" world meaning game mechanics not worked into the story wouldn't exist.
So deployment slots wouldn't be a thing and if your Lord dies there's no one else to use the +1 Infinity Sword so you'd be ****ed

And Lowen isn't bad, he's really your only option for a Cavalier if you don't feel like doing Lyn's mode

Sain is the man with all that Str but yeah, Lowen has to compete with two Cavaliers who get Lyn's mode(which you can't and shouldn't be skipping in your first two runs) to grow though he can be a good tank on wheels
