I suppose since it's the end of the year I may as well reflect back on how my year was. (Warning: lots of text below)
For starters, I got into the Final Fantasy series this year. I had decided to play FFXV when I had decided I wanted to get into the series. It was the newest one, so I wanted to play it first. While the game definitely has its flaws, I had quite a lot of fun with the game, and that's what matters most to me. The DLC missions (despite the fact that I haven't played all of them and have only played them recently) have been quite fun as well. As for the second FF I played, I played FFX, and I certainly don't regret it. I personally thought the story was very good and I found the battle system very interesting. So far, I'd say it's my favorite FF game (considering I've only played it, XV, and VII(and haven't even finished that one), I guess that isn't saying much, but I really did love the game.). Now I am currently making my way through FF VII, and I've had a lot of fun with it, but more for the story and characters than for the gameplay itself (not that I dislike it, I'm just more interested in the story and characters).
I don't feel like I've played enough of this series to call myself a fan, but I love the games that I've played and hope to play more of the franchise.
I also finally did something that it had bothered me that I hadn't done: Beat Gen 4 of Pokemon. I've always had fond memories of Diamond and Pearl from when I was younger (even though I had never mad it past Jublife City for quite a while), but I had never beat the game. I also had never played Platinum, so I decided to play Platinum at the start of the year. Now that I've played and beaten it, I would now say that Gen 4 is my 3rd favorite generation of Pokemon.
I also played Gen 1 for the first time, but I have less to say about it.
I also spent a decent portion of the year playing some of the Zelda games I haven't beaten yet. I started playing A Link to the Past in the middle of the year, as well as the Oracle games. I quite enjoyed playing them, and I would probably say that the Oracle games are up their for my favorite 2d Zelda games (not saying much considering I've only played a few of them, but still).
One of the best things that I did this year was get into the Kingdom Hearts series. It feels odd to say that I never got into the franchise earlier, but I'm really glad I did(especially with the changes in the Final Mix versions). I would now say that KH 1&2 are now two of my favorite games of all time. Shockingly enough, I haven't had too much trouble comprehending the story (although I haven't gotten to DDD yet, which I hear is when the story gets really confusing), which I suppose might be because of the Final Mix versions/the order I played them in/reading the Secret Reports.
As for actually new games that I played this year . . .
I played a total of 4 new games this year, as crazy as that sounds. (Not counting stuff like KH 1.5 & 2.5 and Pokken DX due to being rereleases)
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, ARMS, and Splatoon 2 were the only games that I played this year that came out this year that weren't remasters or ports (I'm counting SoV because it never came to America prior to this year).
So I guess if I had to put them in order of how much I liked them.
1. LoZ: BotW
2. FE Echoes: SoV
3. Splatoon 2
4. ARMS
Although if I had to include games that were from earlier years that I played this year, I guess I would say that KH1, KH2, and FFX would be my top 3 games I played this year, followed by BotW and SoV.
I apologize for the multiple walls of text.
