Even though Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is only out for over two weeks and I doubt there's anyone who can completely finish the game. That said, the main story is slightly shorter than the original, but overall the gameplay length is on par with the original Xenoblade.

Further note, I think I would do a brief comparison between Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the first Xenoblade Chronicles. Comparing all three Xenoblade games though will be pretty complicated so that will be posted in a later date.
For a disclaimer, I will not decide which game is better since it's kind of like you are telling me to choose between my mother and my girlfriend/ or Callie and Marie/ or Pearl and Marina.... (These are just analogy btw...)

- GRAPHICS/ARTSTYLE - XC2 WINS
It's pretty obvious that XC2 owns the first game heavily when it comes to graphics, but this alone can't justify it since the two games are on different gen consoles. Therefore I would combine about graphics and artstyle, XC2 is more anime whereas XC is more realistic and even more epic to a certain extent, when it comes to this part I have hear plenty of people either intrigued on XC2 anime style while some were disappoint and even stated "This doesn't look like a Xenoblade game", and then you have more negative like "The style looks worse and worse" "XC or X looks way better". Here I say when it comes to whether anime style is good or bad is completely subjective, but as for how the character portrays or how the cutscenes go, XC2 just heavily owns on this one.

- STORY/ WORLD BUILDING (spoiler free) - UNDETERMINED on story, XC2 wins on world building
Both games are heavily story driven, that said since this part I am only around chapter 5, I can only say XC2 story so far is decent but still only a slight weak than XC. That said, I can't set a judment for story yet until I complete the game.
As for world building alone, XC2 is definitely more interesting and had lots of potential, not saying that XC was bad, but simply start out as the world begin as two titans fighting each other and then stopped doesn't sound too amusing...

- CHARACTERS/ VOICE ACTING - XC WINS
Story driven game also needs interesting cast, this one was pretty difficult to compare tbh, Rex and Shulk are both great main protagonist, that said Shulk definitely has way better VA whenever Shulk rages. Rex's VA completely falls flat whenever he rages... but I have to say Rex has more interesting personality than Shulk. Other cast though...Nia, Tora, Pyra, other rare Blades were good too... but compare to Dunban, Riki, Melia, and Sharla... XC2 support cast kind of lacks depth just by a small margin, this may due to the fact that I haven't finish XC2 story, but XC2 support characters first impressions weren't as good as the first... but I am sure to say, XC2 and XC2 have no "bad" characters (Even though Zeke is almost at that... but I think he may have some potential after chapter 5)

- MUSIC - TIE
Even though XC2 and XC music were both composed by the same composers... XC2 was led my Mitsuda, and XC2 pretty much followed the original's music formula such as ACE compose the battle themes etc. I do have to say XC2 have some tracks that somewhat feels like they were a bit mimicking the previous XC tracks but they were awesome nevertheless. Gaur Plains theme and Gormott overworld theme are both awesome, but battle theme XC2 is better than XC... yet no unique monster theme in XC2 are better than XC's "You Will Know Our Names"

- BATTLE SYSTEM - XC WINS
Both battle systems have fair and share of pros and cons, XC's was more easy pace but was also a bit dull to a certain extent. XC2 had more things going on but more slower and more complex. Sure when it comes to chain attack I have to say XC2 did better than XC's, but when it comes to arts and healings... XC is more manageable, I kind of dislike how heal potions drop in unreachable places... even though I aware there are healing arts that don't require getting potions. Also XC has vision...which is a feature that I really wish XC2 would have... but oh well...

- MAP - XC WINS
The map on XC was good, but XC2 did some things bad, unlike the first you were unable to know which place you haven't reach... and so far every time you press the map button you will still be in the main map screen rather than showing where you exactly are in.

- SIDEQUEST - XC2 WINS
Quests in XC were a lot... most were short and some were complicated... XC2 quests are easier to navigate and more manageable but also more lengthier as well. That being said, I say the Blade quests in XC2 made the quests more encouraging to complete.

- ITEMS - XC2 WINS
I know that items in XC2 are mostly from the XC, but now items now have rarity and will tell where did you get it.

- MENUS - XC WINS
Let's face it, XC2 menus were more snappier and more well designed for an MMO JRPG. You can still roam around even when clicking on the menus in XC, in XC2 however I sometimes felt annoyed when I go to the menu, it looked great but the minor lag when going to menu just kind of made it a hassle.

- CONTROLS - XC2 WINS
The controls overall on XC2 felt really good, XC on the New 3DS was ok but there were times the control can get a bit jammy at times.

- ADDITIONAL GAMEPLAY FEATURES - XC2 WINS
I just like how XC2 has the Blades, and especially the rare Blades. Despite lack of armor customization, having rare Blade some what makes up for it (I still regard lacking armor customization a huge flaw though). XC's armor customization and gem crafting were nice, but XC2 just had more things to offer such as salvaging (Which can easily give you lots of cash), and voice included Heart to Hearts.

I have said that I won't decide which Xenoblade game is the best, but I do say if you just want to get on why Xenoblade was regarded as one of the best JRPG of the last gen, go for the first XC. If you want something new, more features but also still want that story driven JRPG, or just simply like the anime style, go for XC2.

Total Drama World Tour was one of the best things I've ever seen. I was hoping the upcoming season would be something comparable, but instead we get Total Drama Daycare (and it wasn't even CN's idea).

Ridonculous Race was good though, so Daycare could defy expectations. I hope it follows the standard challenge/elimination format of all the other seasons.

Because on the latter case, Shulk destroys Rex with his eyes closed (and maybe he could, because visions and all that stuff. (Also I just love Adam Howden, one of my favourite voice actors ever)

I agree with most of the things you say, I do wonder what X would win. I mean, it's not gonna win any award for the story nor the characters, but for me, the combat system of X is the most fun out of the three, and also Mira while not as interesting as Mechonis and Bionis or Alrest, gave so much freedom to explore everything, and it's so huge... I think people often don't give enough credit to X, maybe because the original XC was too great.



So, the FEW DLC finally came out. Glad to have infantry lancers FINALLY, I don't know how that wasn't in the base game... I'm mostly playing Azura right now, and she's quite difficult to handle. Her attacks are quite slow, and her specials are so annoying... I mean, FEW soundtrack is really upbeat, and it's great, but when she uses her special, then the ocean's gray waves start to play, and it breaks the flow SO HARD.

Also, what happened to Rena's performance in Warriors? She sounds way off, I really liked her performance with Axezura from Heroes, but she sounds so boring and quiet in Warriors. Also, the supports doesn't help her case either, did the one with Corrin and she still sounds like she was dead inside... I mean, it might be closer to Fates Azura, because she was playing the "misterious girl" role the whole time, but she's a singer, please feel some kind of emotion.

And a question to those who bought the DLC, how do you unlock the additional costumes for Camilla/Takumi/Corrin? I thought they would be unlocked just like the characters, but it doesn't seem that way.

So after some thinking, I decided on a top 10 list for me this year.

The Big Three (1-3): So the first three kinda blend together for me, they're by far my favorite games this year but I couldn't decide on the order. Overall I went Zelda because I think I got the most playtime and enjoyment out of it and that's without the DLC. While I have some issues with it there's no denying I was pretty mindblown for the first couple of months with it and even recently I found more I had fun with. Mario is Mario, Odyssey doesn't really break the mold like Zelda and instead refines what was there and there's nothing wrong with that. But I did start to get burned out by it far before I did with Zelda, which might be due to an oversaturation of Moons. Xenoblade is the odd one here because I haven't finished it yet, probably not even halfway done, but I already have over 100 hours of playtime which is ****ing crazy. It's the most janky one here but I don't care, I'm really into the game and I can't quite explain why.

The Still Greats (4-5): Tekken got a lot of flak for not having enough content and a lackluster Story Mode. While I can agree to that, it's still Tekken. I still liked it a lot and I burned too many hours of my time into Treasure Battle with no regrets. VA11HALLA is the odd one in the list because it came out last year, it's also the only indie game here. I loved that game, it's a visual novel/bartender sim with a huge cyberpunk aesthetic and influence. That alone is enough to sell me on it, but the characters and writing are what make it really great.

The Middle Ground (6-8): Here's where things get weird for me. First off, Persona 5 was way better than expected in the gameplay department, gone are the dull RNG dungeons and in are actual dungeons with puzzles. Sadly, the writing is pretty inconsistent and each arc seems to get a little worse than last. I still loved the presentation and soundtrack to bits though. Digimon World is also a game I bought on a risk, since I've never been huge on raising games. But hell, why not? I ended up really liking the game and despite the main story being really short, there's still a boatload of sidequests to do that aren't just fetch quests. Plus developing the town and raising your Digimon to be godlike monsters is extremely satisfying. And then there's Sonic Mania, which is now my favorite classic-style 2D Sonic game (that's not saying much and I'll leave it at that). There's not a lot I can say about Mania that hasn't already been said, fun game and amazing soundtrack.

The Lower End (9-10): I went into Ultra Moon with rather low expectations and came out feeling... Alright about it? It improves on almost everything about Sun and Moon except for the story which definitely suffered from Necrozma's arc getting lazily shoehorned into vanilla SM's plot. But I think at this point we're past the 3rd version format, bring back direct sequels, Gamefreak. As for Forces, I had many problems with it but I also found myself having a lot fun with it too. I think there's a good game in there, unfortunately a lot of the jank it comes with hampers it more than not. In any case, I like to boot up the game and just blitz through stages as Sonic when I need to relax, or maybe just mess with the surprisingly competent Avatar customization.

Final notes:
- I didn't play a lot of games this year, which I feel pretty sad about seeing as how so much good stuff came out. If I had played games like FE Echoes, Nier, Tales of Berseria, Horizon or even Gravity Rush 2 this list might've been pretty different.
- I kinda struggled with putting Forces on the 10th spot, but it's only competition was Crash N-Sane Trilogy and while that is "technically" the better game, I've never been a huge fan of Crash AND I've felt more compelled to actually replay Forces and get better at it.

It sold decently apparently.

Methinks it may be a screw up on SEGA Europe/Australia's part.

They're known for doing their own thing compared to SEGA of America, usually to the dismay of fans.

The information we get on the Sonic livestreams from Aaron Webber is mostly just applicable to US fans, unless he states otherwise.

Regardless, there's already a bit of backlash. They can't take something that's been a standard reward of Sonic games for 25 years and expect us to pay for it now without any objections.

Personally I'm not too fussed about this because I'll get it as soon as it goes up regardless, and tbh I don't think Super Sonic will provide anything different because the levels are too short for him. But I worry about it on principle, they might try to pull this in a future title where Super Sonic might actually be worth something.

Ash getting a Poipole? I sure hope it will evolve into a Naganadel later into the series because of how OP that 'mon is.

As for the marriage, I'm surprised Kukui and Burnet got married this quickly. I was expecting the marriage to take place around the end of the series when they had more moments together and then the marriage would be a great kickoff around the series finale, but it seems they decided to put it at the conclusion of the Aether arc. Ah well.

Now that she will probably live with Kukui, I look forward to seeing Burnet act like a mother-figure to Ash the same way Kukui was a father-figure to him up to this point.

Interesting. Ash will probably release it in the future if he catches it but I really do hope he uses it in battle. Also Winter break coming everyone, so relieved.
