Who knows? :3
Something tells me I should of not said anything about that... I apologize if I wronged anybody.

I just haven't been feeling good (emotion wise, I am not sick) and am not sure how I could keep myself happy today beyond the usual video watching and BP farming in Pokemon Moon...

I think my questions as of right now are basically this:
1) How much lower quality is the Switch compared to Xbox One and PS4? This may've been explained in the article and I'm just not getting it from the specs, but this detail is important for multiple reasons, including enticing third parties. So if it's still close to their quality, then it still could be fine as I wasn't expecting the Switch to surpass the PS4 or Xbox One and the promise of a dual handheld/console system is still rather enticing, but that leads to question 2, which is...
2) How easy will it be to port games? The Wii U had a decent first party library, but its third party offerings were, to be blunt, barebones at best, terrible at worst. If the Switch can still get at least a good chunk of the notable third party games and companies under its belt, then I don't mind the hit to the specs, but if they can't port it too easily then that's very disappointing and that could very well be a dealbreaker for many.

Other then that, I'm just taking the wait and see approach. This news definitely isn't promising, but I'm not going to jump ship just yet, I want to know more of the full picture first before making any decisions either way.

I'm not really bothered by the specs myself much.

And wasn't the Switch marketed as both a console/home system and mobile/handheld system? I thought the reveal trailer made it pretty clear that it was, at least.

the Switch has definitely been marketed as a handheld more than a console, just look at the reveal trailer.

I know that the Switch will possibly have the Vita third party support which from a Japanese perspective, that's massively huge and means Switch won't miss out on games like Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, Danga Rompa, SMT and the high quality stuff from Capcom, Sega, Bamco, SE and Koei Tecmo which is fine for me some that means they'll use it for the portable/mobile aspect.

Even then, Third Parties will stick around if the system sells which will matter if it sells.

I still want to know what (or if) Nintendo will do for Switch buyers who also supported the Wii U during its painful and long struggles.

Not at all. If it were marketed as a handheld, Nintendo wouldn't be AS adamant about it not being a 3DS successor. That's different than the whole "third pillar" thing they pull...if this were meant to be more of a handheld they wouldn't have said that about the 3DS.

It's blatantly their next home console...that just happens to be portable.

I understand gameplay is more important than graphics. I agree, but we really need that power. It's barely more powerful than the Wii U when docked and less powerful when undocked.

That is bad.

'Still better than the PSVita, who had the selling point to be more powerful than the 3DS, and, well, you know the rest.
And the PS2 wasn't that powerful compared to the Gamecube and it's still one of the best selling console of all time. Because it had a ****load of great games to help it.

Just my opi-opinion tough.:054:

I understand power isn't everything but if the Switch isn't powerful enough to keep third party support its doomed.

Yeah, the bolded is important, but that's a lot harder to do without third party support.

I am not defensif, I am just explaining that games matter more than power.
If a console that had less power that others console was still the big winner of the three. Why it can't happen again? I am not trying to put down your point but the Switch can still be a good console without needing to be a war machine in my opinion.
Yeah, the bolded is important, but that's a lot harder to do without third party support.
Yup, this is why I say that Nintendo need to bring their best in term of first and third party support, or less, they risk to pull off another Wii U/Gamecube.

The thing that matters to me is battery life for a handheld

If it's only going to last 4 hours, I have a problem with it

I'll probaly only take it out once every few months, (excluding holidays) ...so battery life isn't a biggie for me.

That is, if I do get it. Defo not at launch.

Power & Games are the most important thing right now. They got the look and feel right, as well as games in the short term even tho we barely seen any.

Really want:

  • Dragon Quest 11
  • Zelda BoftW
  • Smash Switch

Well the word "doomed" probably doesn't help, considering the whole "Nintendoomed since 1889" thing.

Let's look at the two generations before the Wii U. The Wii had horrible specs and was ignored by many third parties, it's one of the highest selling systems of all time. The Gamecube had excellent specs more than capable of handling ports, it's the second worst selling mainline console after the Wii U.

Nintendo's issues with third parties run well beyond specs, and Nintendo can still do things without them if they brainstorm the right idea at the right time and their marketing team is clever enough to do the job.

I for one can't wait to play watered down ports on the Switch.

Because Motion Controls were an extremely hot gimmick.
The Wii was lightning in a bottle.

I think hype works like I hear Vegemite does.

It's something that requires to an extent knowing what you're getting into and is only meant to be applied lightly, but a lot of people just glob it on without knowing what's going on and then act surprised when they don't like the taste.

Or like trying a seasoning you've never had before and just dumping the whole container onto your food.

Hype is fine, just don't overdo it and make sure you actually know what you're getting hyped for. I feel like things would be a lot easier if people could actually get excited over what they've actually seen instead of having to make up or exaggerate things to get excited about. But apparently realistic things just aren't exciting to people anymore.

I want to get excited over new tentacle styles in Splatoon, or the fact that we might possibly see follower Pokemon in the next Pokemon game (although the latter isn't a guarantee and my expectations are kept in check as such). Aren't the little things worth getting excited about too??

People just have to keep in mind that things might happen or they might not. Cool if they do, it's OK if they don't.
You what mate?

Sorry, I just don't like it when people talk down on Vegemite.

Wii was lightning in a bottle. Motion controls were brand new at the time since technology wasn't as advanced then. Nothing about the Switch is, objectively, AS groundbreaking as that was.

Even then, tons of the folks who bought the Wii played Wii Sports for five minutes and then, likely, didn't use it much after that. The market that bought the Wii in that large of quantity is gone, a combination of Technology Marches On and the rise of innovation with smart devices/mobile gaming.

It's telling that Nintendo consoles have always sold worse than the previous one, with the sole exception of the Wii (entirely due to right place right time).

I for one can't wait to play watered down ports on the Switch.

Because Motion Controls were an extremely hot gimmick.
The Wii was lightning in a bottle.

But what about the PS2? Isn't the console less powerful that the XBOX and the Gamecube?
As you said, the Wii selled like bread because it has a cool gimmick at the time, same as the DS, they tried again with the Wii U. Gimmick weren't the thing this time and the game weren't there, so, it fall down.
If the Switch can gain alot of help, or if Nintendo release their best games at the launch of the console, they will have more support this time, or at the very least, more game to help the console. (The Wii U had a weak launch and after that, very few games were here because the console was launched too early)
But now, I feel like that guy who is trying too hard to get in a debate with his argument, and honestly, I don't like that all. I just try to have a "positif" opinion on a new that make most people cynical. And I don't want to sound like a arrogant person, because really, nobody want to feel like that kind of guy.

Then again, I don't like debate in general, so I may have dig my own hole on this one...:4wiifitm:
So...can we talk about how The Lion King was a good movie?... :cheep:

The PS2 was also a CD/DVD player. Or something.

Was? You mean is:040:
I saw the play with my mom as a kid and i loved it
Yes! Exactly! My bad, hahaha, haaaaaa......
I'm feeling really down right now...
But yeah, I love this film, who doesn't?
I'm certainly looking forward to the live action movie.

Just wonder why Disney all of a sudden feels the need to readapt a lot of them for these coming years.
It is like a project or something? Remaking all the Disney movie in live-action style perhaps?
I don't know to be honest.

The Wii may have been lightning in a bottle, but the Gamecube shows that the whole "If we have specs, then third parties will come and the console will sell gazillions!" narrative doesn't quite work in practice.

Nintendo is the "kiddy" company. Nintendo is the company that makes alternate data storage types, Nintendo is the company that had strict rules for games at one point in the distant past. Third parties do not "like" Nintendo. The fact that the Switch uses carts would raise enough eyebrows even if it were a powerhouse, and the fact that more third parties are even considering at all is probably because the system looks more "adult."

Wii was lightning in a bottle. Motion controls were brand new at the time since technology wasn't as advanced then. Nothing about the Switch is, objectively, AS groundbreaking as the that was.

Which is exactly why they're fusing it into their market that has a similar history but still ranks head and shoulders above their console market every single generation, by a gap of dozens of millions no matter the generation.

Nintendo's trying to drive off the downward slope by making their most successful market part of their spotlight and following the Japanese industry where it's going: out of the house.

Specs never had anything to do with Nintendo's success however, as their sales continued to drop even as the power of their specs bobbed up and down between the average.

You have to understand why the PS2 did better than the Gamecube despite being less powerful.

Yeah, it was less powerful in a graphical sense, but it also used less restrictive hardware, opting to use DVDs that stored a lot more data than the proprietary Mini-discs of the Gamecube. PS1 succeeded for similar reasons, opting to use Discs over cartridges. Even if the overall hardware was weaker, those few aspects can make a huge difference.
