Lysandre reveals what the entire point of having Alain collect the Mega Evolution energy: Lysandre used the energy to mind control Zygarde. He tells Alain it's thanks to him that Team Flare is where they're at now, causing Alain to experience an emotional breakdown as he questions what was the entire point of helping Mairin and her Chespin in the first place. Lysandre comments that it was remarkable that Alain held on to such an ideal like that, and Ash realizes that Alain was collecting the Mega Evolution energy for Mairin's sake.
Meanwhile, Serena, Clemont, Bonnie, Mairin, Clembot, and Blaziken Man are stopped by Bryony and Aliana, and both summon a Liepard and a Druddigon respectively. Sycamore's Mega Garchomp intervenes to save the gang, and Mairin tells Serena about her Chespin who is back at the Lysandre Labs. Her, Serena, and Sycamore decide to head to the Labs to take the Chespin. Clemont, Clembot, and Blaziken Man are left to deal with Bryony and Aliana. As for Bonnie, she is following Puni-chan as it battles the other 50% form, and that fight delivered pretty well. The XY rival trio and Sawyer also approach Diantha about how they can help, and she tells them to bring all the children and elders to a safe location for the time being.
Back at the top of Prism Tower, Lysandre reveals that he will force Ash to undergo the Ash Greninja transformation in order to receive the Bond Phenomena energy to further his goals (called it). He summons the two insect-like machines from the Lysandre gear and both proceed to zap Ash and his Greninja to force the transformation. Ash tries to resist as he tells Lysandre that they are good people and Pokemon in the world despite Lysandre telling him that he will make him "the chosen savior to guide the people" after the plan is completely executed.
Ash continues to resist. He tells Alain to stop looking at the past and that he cherishes the Alain he bonded with. Ash and Greninja eventually transform, but it seems like they do it out of their own will and not from force. The transformation is so strong that the shackles on Ash and Greninja. Now that Alain has gained confidence thanks to Ash, he summons Charizard and orders it to use Dragon Claw to free Ash's other Pokemon. Lysandre then begins to equip his Lysandre gear. Turns out the pieces of the gear can apparently levitate on its own. Pretty high tech!
The battle rages on between the two Zygardes. Funny enough, they both share the same cry as Palkia from the 4th generation movies. Moving on, they fire vines at each other and even ram into one another here and then. The battle reaches the climax where Z2 traps Puni-chan with a series of large vines. This puts it at perfect range for Xerosic to fire another mind control beam, this time to take over Puni-chan.
We then see more of the battle between Clemont and Clembot and Bryony and Aliana. The battle ends with Clembot ordering Heliolisk to use Flash, distracting Liepard and Druddigon to bump into each other and allowing Clemont to finish them off. During the Flash, Clembot successfully captures Bryony and Aliana. Two down, four to go!
Serena, Mairin, and Sycamore run into Team Rocket, still disguised as reporters, on the way, and after learning the latter has a helicopter and both agree on their goals, they all decide to travel to Lysandre Labs. We see the helicopter reach the base at some point, and Mable and Celosia already know they are there (both are also back at the Labs). We then see Clemont and Clembot working together to break through Team Flare's machines inside the tower.
To be honest, after they recover Mairin's Chespin, I want to see one of our heroes destroy the Lysandre Labs. If Serena ends up doing that, that would be sick, but I doubt she'd be the one to do it. That's more likely going to be Garchomp's job.
Back to the Zygarde battle, Bonnie becomes worried about Puni-chan and tries to call for it, but it is no use. Vines are about to attack Bonnie as well, but Blaziken Man saves her in the nick of time, but Bonnie is now heavily distressed knowing that Puni-chan is about to be affected by the worst. Around this point, Xerosic fires the next beam at Puni-chan... and Puni-chan becomes fully mind controlled. Yes, that's right, Team Flare now has access to both Zygardes, and now more destruction runs amok in Lumiose City. Looks like this was another prediction of mine that became true. Now I wonder if they will be the ones to trigger the 100% transformation.
What follows is next is one of my favorite parts about the episode: Lysandre's backstory.
Back at Prism Tower, Ash notices that Puni-chan has been mind-controlled. Lysandre evilly smiles, and when asked by Ash, the anime finally reveals the exact reason as to why Lysandre wanted to "reset" the world in the first place.
The anime ends up exploring more of Lysandre's backstory than the games. Team Flare apparently used to be a charity group that helped victims affected by disasters. We see Xerosic, Mable, Bryony, and Lysandre dressed in simple lab coats and helping a ravished town by bringing them supplies.
Overtime, as Lysandre and his crew brought more supplies to those in need, the people kept demanding for more, pretty much to the point they became arrogant. It was then Lysandre realizes that humans are selfish and thus need to be brought back into place by "resetting" the world.
The games only mentioned that Lysandre used to be someone who helped people in need, but once he realized about humanity's stupidity and his own limitations, that's when he became misanthropic. They never revealed that Team Flare used to be a charity organization though, nor did they really show how exactly did Lysandre realize humanity's stupidity. Major props to the anime for finally showing us more about Lysandre and Team Flare's origins!
Lysandre then summons his Gyarados (which is a shiny in this version, and it has the same cry as Dialga from the 4th generation movies) and Pyroar, and he Mega Evolves the former. Then, Alain Mega Evolves his Charizard. Lysandre vs Ash and Alain here we go! I predicted Pyroar would be the first to go down since it is the weakest between it, Mega Gyarados, Ash Greninja, and Mega Charizard X.
Ash ends up using all of his Pokemon at once to aid Ash Greninja in battle, as well as deal damage to both Pyroar and Mega Gyarados. By the end of episode, Pyroar is the first to go down (not surprised). The episode ends on a good cliffhanger as the Mega Gyarados still stands strong while we see how both Zygarde's are wrecking even more of Lumiose City).
