Here's a question.

How do you feel about religious figures in stories?

And does that feeling change depending on if the religion isn't commonly practiced anymore?

Like, does Zeus make you feel more comfortable then say the Judeo-Christian God?

This is assuming the story isn't trying to preach or convert.

Doesn't bother me. Don't care if it's trying to preach, either.
A "dead god" would be surprising to see, though.

I don't really mind them, though how comfortable I feel depends on who I currently live with, if anyone at all.

Fictitious stories don't really make me feel any different about religious figures that are featured in said stories...especially if these stories are purely meant for entertainment purposes and not an attempt to preach...

I guess it all depends on if it's handled well, and what figure we're talking about. That's really the big factor of if I feel good or bad about them.

Woah why didnt i know about this. Why does mighty have an official uekawa artwork.
Probably Sonic Channel stuff that didn't go through in the end.
Don't know why but I am unreasonably hyped to have seen this....I completely know why.

Anywho it's really nice to finally see an official piece of Uekawa Mighty art and it also looks fairly recent actually so it seems to definitely have been made for Sonic Channel, hope to see him again someday in a future game.

The other day I popped in Sonic Gems Collections because I felt like playing Knuckles Chaotix.

...Only to remember that game wasn't there.

And is only available(officially, unless something changed) on a hard-to-get-working 32x. Lovely.

I really hope it gets some sort of re-release down the line, but that ain't likely.

Ah well, I'll just keep enjoying it through less than legal means.

I joined Smashboards beause of Smash 4 Speculation. I remember lurking ever since late 2013, so i decided to join Smashboards to express my wishes and expectations (in other words, post Golden Sun comics, make wierd jokes and questions in the K.Rool thread and take ownership of the Simon Belmont thread)

Im still here because........i quite frankly have nothing better to do most of the time (other than studying and playing video games, thought that will likely change next year since i want to get a part-time job)

I mean i suppose i could speculate about future Nintendo non-Smash games (and maybe the NX) but quite franly i've been considering leaving the boards again (at least until the Next Smash game is announced), and this time for real (since it's possible that i will be busy in the future, and i don't find Smashboards that fun anymore)

Then again i wanted to leave back in December and look what happened, so im not 100% sure that i will leave again (though it's likely i'll stop posting frequently)

I never cared for competitive play honestly.

I personally mostly come here now to shill my art, then I get caught up in random discussions about anime and the like.

To me, religion IS fiction, so I'm not bothered by it in any way.

I think religion can say a lot about the human experience. Religion has been the driving force for humans for about 4000 years (Judaism and Christianity never got along with the more dominant Pagan religions of ancient times). So using it as a means to convey various aspects of human psychology and global politics can make for very interesting storytelling. Zeus, Odin, Yahweh, God, Amun-Ra, it's all the same really. It'd be fairly hypocritical of people to get upset at seeing Yahweh, God, or Jesus depicted and totally OK with seeing Ra, or Amun, when in fact, Jesus and Horus are essentially the same:

Regardless of what someone might believe, they need to understand the origins of their belief systems in order to gain full comprehension of them.

The series Vikings, I think does a fantastic job at portraying and contrasting the various faces to Christianity to the Nordic beliefs. I very much recommend it if you wanna see historical fiction do religion right. Also, as I mentioned before, Full Metal Alchemist 2003 also does an interesting job with it.

I'm all for comparing religions... African ones are some of my favorites to compare.

But this video is bull.

It gets a LOT wrong on both the Christian and Egyptian side.

One thing is the issues with languages and names. Jesus was known as "Yeshua".

Biggest issue I had is that it called Horus the sun god.

That's just blatantly Ra.

Plus its common knowledge that Jesus (if he existed) wasn't born on the 25th and that the date was chosen because it was originally a pagan holiday the church converted into a Christian one.

Plus the 9/11 stuff. Like... wow.

But Horus is Ra, the two were merged in later Dynastic times. First Ra merged with Amun, and became Amun-Ra, and later, Amun-Ra was merged with Horus.

upload_2016-7-4_12-41-50.png
In later Egyptian dynastic times, Ra was merged with the god Horus, as Ra-Horakhty ("Ra, who is Horus of the Two Horizons"). He was believed to rule in all parts of the created world: the sky, the earth, and the underworld. He was associated with the falcon or hawk.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horus
Plus, all the stuff about Horus being born of the virgin Isis, and being opposed to Set is all true.

As far as Jesus goes, he addresses that, he was born in the fall, under the Virgin in Bethlehem, all of this referring to the Virgo constellation, The House of Bread. Which occurs in the fall. His celebrated birth however, happens on the 25th of December to coincide with the Winter Solstice. And as he mentioned, there are no historical records of Jesus despite there being many historians in and around that time. We know literally everything about Alexander the Great, from birth to conquest, to death, who was born a good 300 years before Jesus, yet the savior of the world who performed astounding miracles only has the Bible as a citation, and it only tells us of his youth and sacrifice.

Anyway, it's not to get into a religious debate, but everything he cited is absolutely correct in regard to the first part. And on a more personal note, I find the idea that the Eastern Roman Empire, and Constantine would be desperate to establish a unified religion under a unique figure in order to gain control over their decaying empire and supremacy, more believable than what the church itself proposes. But those are my sentiments alone. I've been to the Vatican, and I was raised Catholic and Baptized and all that stuff, and I've been a complete Atheist for a good... 4 years now. I've always struggled making religion fit with scientific logic and reasoning as a child. But that's just me. An open mind to it all I guess. Everyone is free to believe what they want to believe (except for radical Islams, because seriously, **** that).

But anyway, you asked if people would be bothered if they saw religious figures depicted in fiction. Personally, I say there's no reason for them to feel offended at all. Regardless of their beliefs.

Oh yeah, as for parts 2 and 3 of that documentary. Part 2 is flimsy, and there are better 9/11 docs out there. Whether or not it's all true and stuff, well we don't and never will know, that's the thing. One thing is certain, the official statement is absolute bull. Part 3 is totally correct, but it's better explained in other documentaries. I only like Zeitgeist for part 1, I think it's the most thorough explanation for the origins of Judo-Christian beliefs.

After all, Everything is a Remix. Those beliefs gotta come from somewhere. And the idea that all Solar-deities, including Jesus, are pretty much a metaphor for the cycles of the Sun, makes a lot of sense, especially if you take into account the importance the Sun had for ancient peoples. Harvest, safety, etc... it all depended on the Sun. And ancient cultures were all avid stargazers.

And the reason I bring this up, is because if you have interest in either depicting religion in fiction, or creating fictional religions, it's a good idea to understand where all religious beliefs come from, what they depict, how they influence one an other, and the impact various beliefs have had on different people. The history of religion if you will.

If you want a good read, I might also recommend the History of Alchemy. You can read the wikipedia, it's quite interesting. But it goes on and explains how Alchemy began, and how it became modern science.

It just stuck in my mind that you mentioned this, because one of the comics I'm working on (Muse) deals very heavily with the subject of religion and "what is God" and conspiracy, and while I will be using fictional religions mostly cause it's more interesting to do that, I've pretty much have had to do all this research myself, and it's been quite interesting indeed.

It's not Uekawa art.

Aaron Webber hired a bunch of fan artists and fans in general to help him create original assets for social media posts.

One of them is a fan who is capable of perfectly recreating Uekawa's art style. The character portraits in Big's Big Fishing Adventure 3 are also original and drawn by this person.

So this doesn't really say anything about Mighty returning, it's just Aaron Webber doing cool stuff with fans, for the fans.

I still believe they should do a Sonic Anniversary Collection for Xbone/PS4/Wii U

Just have it add:
  • Sonic 1
  • Sonic 2
  • Sonic CD
  • Sonic 3 & Knuckles
  • Knuckles Chaotix
  • Sonic 3D Blast
  • Sonic Spinball
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Sonic the Fighters
  • Sonic R
And do a Modern pack with:
  • Adventure 1
  • Adventure 2
  • Unleashed in 60 FPS
  • Colors in 60 FPS
  • Generations in 60 FPS

That's extremely unrealistic for multiple reasons:

-Far too many games from too many different systems need to be run on one disc. It'd be a porting nightmare.

-The Wii U would explode trying to run Generations, and ESPECIALLY Unleashed, at 60 FPS. It was only able to run Lost World at 60 FPS because they heavily toned down the graphical fidelity and opted for a much more cartoony look, used primitive geometric shapes for most of the level design, and the levels in general were much, much smaller (this was the real reason Lost World "copied" Super Mario Galaxy with the whole planetoid thing. It wasn't because they thought it'd be an interesting mechanic, it was so they could get a game running at 60 FPS on the Wii U). Assuming this collection were possible for PS4 and Xbox One, it's not gonna be on Wii U.

-Generations already has a built in port of Sonic 1 on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

-The Taxman remakes of Sonic 1, 2, and Sonic CD exist and they want to sell those. In the case of 1 and 2, their ports are most likely never coming to consoles for multiple reasons, at least not in any official capacity.

-"A Modern Pack"? Do you mean DLC? Because Sonic Unleashed is 7.6 GB in file size on the PS Store, and that's before getting into updating textures and stuff for PS4. Unleashed also got a ton of DLC. Generations on Steam is about 7.52 GB. And a Sonic Colours ISO is 3.74 GB. The Adventure and Adventure 2 remasters on PSN, including the "DX" and "Battle" DLC, are about 2GB each too.

Also if you wanna play Generations in 60 FPS, the PC version of Generations natively runs at 60 FPS. And since you most likely don't care about the Werehog and hub worlds anyway, there is the Unleashed Project mod for Generations which ports all of the main day stages from Unleashed to Generations. Other modders have also made various "Adventure Pack" mods spun off from the Unleashed Project that port the extra and DLC day stages.

How different would things have been had Rare became a first-party developer for Nintendo and remained with them up until this day?

During the conversation we asked Mr. Miyamoto which Wii U game he thinks has been overlooked. “I think personally Star Fox is a really fun game if you sit down and play it. I think, for example, an elementary school kid who plays it without any preconceived notions, I think it would be really fun for them. I think it’s also really, really fun for siblings to play it together."

Depends on when Nintendo would buy Rare. If it was early on, like from the SNES days to the early 64 days, Nintendo could actually benefit from it. If it was around the time the big name Rare employees left, they would've suffered.

Oh my god they have a thank you page for SoS Kickstarter backers. It's in alphabetical order and because of that, my name is literally first on the list.

Also it seems like First4Figures are credited for "Support", so they are mostly likely gonna show off their 25th Anniversary statue at the event.
