The Alex Kidd localization is a another good example of great localization. Losing a Janken match gets you crushed by a silly walking weight (Western) over getting your clothes removed (Japanese). Now there are plenty of fans that preferred the weight crushing that happened in The Enchanted Castle. That's even his All-Star Move in Sega Superstars Tennis.

If SST really did get localized in Japan however, there would have been confusion since the Japanese didn't get the weight crushing scene we had. Good thing this is an exclusive change in The Enchanted Castle since losers would just disappear in Miracle World (The first Alex Kidd game).

I just noticed that from all the characters and various different main characters that were mentioned in all of SFV's story modes and character story modes, almost every relevant, notable and popular characters were all mentioned or shown except for Sagat and Akuma.

The former probably retired and the latter is 50% of the devs not wanting to mention him for the sake of being hidden and 50% of the rest of Akuma invading other games and trying to kill their main characters because of the request of one of those character's wife

If there is one track worthy of a Smash remix, it's easily this one.

Can you imagine hearing an actual chorus while fighting in a new Kirby stage? Well, that's assuming we will get a stage that isn't from Sakurai's favorite games he developed (Super Star, Kirby's Dreamland, etc).

I'm looking at this current discussion and the only thing I can think to say is:

"Death Battle was a mistake."
Sometimes I wonder if they think that over at Screwattack as they're pretty much the only videos they make now that receive any form of viral attention. I'd love for them to bring back Top 10s & Video Game Vaults in full.

I mostly just watch Death Battle for the research and tend to skip the actual fights. I'm sure they took a lot of hard work to animate, at least enough so they're not complete click-bait, but they always feel kind of cheesy/out of place. I generally agree with most fights, but even then you gotta take everything with a grain of salt.

LMAO there are still people fighting over Superman vs. Goku in their blog/forum sections.

Azure Strike Gunvolt anime announced.

The second game will have a physical version that includes the first game and it goes for $30. Published by Yacht Club.
Well that's surprising. I would have thought the latter would stay a Japanese exclusive. I should pull out my old Lumen avatar for fun.

Never played Gunvolt before, but I've heard TONS about it. Literally almost as popular as Shovel Knight. May give it a go with this sequel...
In a similar vein to Mighty #9, it's worth checking out if you like non-Mega Man classic. The biggest differences are that your gun isn't your primary weapon for destroying enemies and that dashes don't work like they do in the MM X/Zero/ZX series (no fancy wall tricks).

I feel like complaints tend to get kind of one-note with most games anymore.

Like, people will just find one or two oftentimes subjective issues and then just utterly dwell on them to the point of ignoring all others.

I mean, complaints can be good for a series. We wouldn't have gotten Breath of the Wild and how good that looks so far without complaints.

But I don't think if it was just one type of complaints dominating the others we would have gotten a game like that. Complaints about being unable to explore are fair ones, but I doubt they were the biggest ones made. There was probably some big thing everyone was dwelling on that wasn't that.

If we want game quality to improve, we can't just settle for complacent complaining. We need to have a sampler tray of issues to set out for Nintendo to taste. That way, even if one or two of our problems are really silly, they can still lift another one to their lips and go, "You know what? They actually kind of have a point."

Like, for example with Smash everyone had phases of what they hated. First it was Wii Fit Trainer, then it was Zero Suit Samus's shoes, then it was Dark Pit, then the CSS, then Cloud, then Corrin and Bayonetta. And it always went in turns, it was never the same thing at high strength at the same time.

Well, why not just have a little selection? I don't hate on added characters because I know how it feels to watch that happen to your favorites, but you could bring back the shoe and CSS issues, complain about a lack of single player campaign, maybe fuss about many of the characters clipping into their own models because that's not really any pettier than complaining about shoes and CSS organization. If it needs a competitive touch, maybe instead of using buzzwords like "slow" and "defensive" you can explain what you feel is wrong in terms a five year old can understand and hope for the best.

It's best to throw a little variety in there, you know? It keeps the people who don't care either way from being as bored and irritated and increases the chances that Nintendo will notice something and actually make a game closer to the way you'd like it to be. No game has just a single flaw.

Well, we -almost- got an Epic Yarn stage if it weren't for Woolly World being announced, and we did get two tracks from Triple Deluxe even if only one was one of the good ones.

That and Sakurai might not necessarily be in charge next time. Him not being in charge still wouldn't guarantee good song or stage selection though.

This isn't Phendrana Drifts. . .
Hey, no marks against Phendrana Drifts...also a great track and one of my favourites from the game also...

Thing is TO2 is usually one of the first tracks I think of when I think of this amazing soundtrack...

Just finished watching Dragon Ball Super episode 50.
TMW Mai is still alive
:yeahboi:
There was no way they were going to kill off Future Mai that early after how much they were promoting her. When the first episode of this arc dropped I mentioned to someone on the comments section of Geekdom's episode review video that Mai's actress mentioned on her Twitter that she would play a major role, I had a feeling she wasn't referring to present/kid Mai. I wonder what that role is though.

Man, this arc has been weird so far.

At first Goku Black was portrayed as an unstoppable force, but then this week he gets bodied by Goku in just SSJ1 form.

Not even SSJ3, but 1.

Curious to see what they do from here, for all I know, the final battle might just be between Trunks and Black, since Goku is like way OP.
Judging from his bangs and the lighting from when he transformed he was SSJ2 but still, Black did however mention that with more pain the more powerful he'll become and when he was pulled back to the future he started talking about he was able to "embed" his fighting style into himself and it would make his powers even more perfect...he's actually starting to sound like Cell.

My main complaints with Smash are how dumbed down the gameplay is compared to Melee and typical fighting games is. I've pretty much stuck to playing doubles with my mate, cause 1v1 ****ing sucks. Everyone uses the same damn combos and set ups and it gets really old, really fast. Same goes with the Overpowered counters. I know why Sakurai did it, to heighten the skill floor in order to make the game more accessible to newcomers, but it's really hurt the game at a core level, and for me personally, has made it rather boring overall.

And it's not to be an elitist or anything, but the physics, speed, and mechanics of Melee and PM genuinely make those two a lot more fun to play. The only saving grace WiiU has over those games is the roster, since I actually really like a lot of the characters in WiiU, but the mechanics really make the game suffer, and if it's not boring to win, it can feel very unfair to lose.

A typical match against a regular Ness:
PK Fire, PK Fire, PK Fire, PK Fire, Run for the grab, if miss, get punished, if get, FThrow, Fair, Fair, Fair, PK Thunder, Homerun bat.

Every goddamn time.

Typical Mario, Run away and fireball spam, shield grab, Dthrow, UTilt, UTilt, UTilt, Utilt, Utilt, USmash, Jump, Uair, UpB.
Enjoy your free 70% damage.

ZSS players all use the same Paralyzer combos, Clouds all run away and charge limit and pretend they're good, Macs abuse the superarmor. Shulks and Corrins all abuse the ever living **** out of counters, often to the point where they can't even KO with one anymore.

And it's not like you CAN'T win against these people, it's not like you can't bait and punish counters. It's that it's NOT FUN to play match after match of being extra defensive in order to be wary of cheap tactics that give players an advantage. It's not FUN that there are many defensive options in order to easily earn a KO with ONE input. It's not fun to face player after player and seeing them all play the same, with the same Throw to Uair combos again and again and again. Especially when they're players that lack the fundamentals in spacing and timing. And it can be very aggravating when you actually lose to someone like this because it's a bad matchup or whatnot. It's just dumbed down the gameplay, and rewards bad players with victories, never forcing them to get any better.

The game is just inherently flawed on various levels, and the slow movement makes it even worse. For me, playing Smash WiiU online is a gamble between actually enjoying myself, or just dropping it and doing something more productive unless I'm playing doubles with my mate. With 80% of my games pretty much falling into the latter. And the more I play it, the more it's evident that it comes down to how simplified all the combos in the game are, and how many cheap and unfair moves exist, yes, even if you CAN bait them and punish them, they're still horribly unbalanced and too rewarding with little risk. This inherently kills all the fun.

And while people might argue for this, and that, the facts are simple, Sakurai has outright said that Brawl and WiiU aren't meant to be competitive, only Melee, and it shows in the mechanics. Smash WiiU really comes down more to luck than skill in contrast to other fighters and Melee. In order to fix it, you'd need to improve the movement options, raise the skill ceiling, increase the fall speed, weaken counters, and give them a more difficult input than just down B, and add give characters more combo openers than grabs, make shields recover more slowly, and make shieldgrabbing a less viable option.

To be perfectly honest, if it weren't for the mods, and prospect of a balanced game like what happened with Brawl, I would have sold my copy of Smash WiiU ages ago, because the more I play it, the more I realise how little fun I actually have with the game.

Oh yes, and lets not forget the lack of a ranking mode online to consistently match you up with players of similar skill. Among other things, like every stage in FG being Omega, and so forth...

This is the criticism I give Smash WiiU, Masahiro "Have you ever made a game?" Sakurai be damned.

If only I could get Sonic, then I'd put him there instead of Peach, and then it's more or less perfect.

Anyone here placed their submissions for the Nintendo UNIQLO T-Shirt Competition yet?

I have already and I can show mine if you guys would like:

Front side shows Miyamoto going out from a cave to see a Japanese garden (an inspiration for Zelda NES). The front side represents his philosophy on "connecting" games to nature and the real world.

On the back side, it shows Breath of the Wild Link going out of his cave to explore the Land of Hyrule. The back side represents Miyamoto's evolution to "innovation" with BotW's return to open-world gameplay.

Even if I don't win, I'm still fine with it, as I made it out of love and appreciation for Miyamoto rather than making it for the prizes.

You know, I've always wanted to ask: Just how many of us still go to Smashboards mainly for Smash?

Personally I don't. I've not cared for anything competitive for a long time now. Anything else is mostly there for me whether it be tiers, matchups, or tournaments.

This thread is literally the only thread I visit anymore.

Aside from occasional visits to the Rosalina Social.

I stopped caring about competitive Smash for now though, and I don't really care for Smash roster speculation and politics.

I don't even come here for a particular reason at this point. Mostly just to post stuff about games I'm playing (like I've been doing with the Smash RPG) and I guess people tend to post some more obscure news here that I might otherwise miss. It also serves as a good place for me to get feedback on things I make. Sometimes, anyway.

And there have been a few opportunities opened up to me that I probably wouldn't have got if I didn't visit here. I probably wouldn't even know about the Smash RPG I'm playing right now, for example.

I'm currently watching Zootopia for the second time on Blue Ray and I somewhat understand the racism subplot of the movie. And here I thought fans were exaggerating just to make it more interesting.

but now it's just a place to talk about mostly gaming...and other stuff...

it's a hangout at this point...

It's a bootleg Smash RPG from China.

I've probably had to explain this to at least three people in this thread. :p

I'm about to hit the hay now so I can't give any more info right now but if you want a download or something, either somebody else can help or I'll do it tomorrow.

I do still come here for Smash things, but I have many other reasons for coming here. I enjoy talking about other interests of mine with other people, including other video games. I've made quite a few friends and companions on here.

On a related note, I'm going to go on a hiatus from this site some amount of months from now, for multiple reasons.

I joined Smashboards during the Smash 4 hype train (more specifically during the fake Palutena leak, if anyone remembers that).

Since Smash speculation has ended, I mainly stick around to post and discuss some Nintendo and gaming news in general. I couldn't care less about tiers and the competitive scene.

I joined Smashboards beause of Smash 4 Speculation. I remember lurking ever since late 2013, so i decided to join Smashboards to express my wishes and expectations (in other words, post Golden Sun comics, make wierd jokes and questions in the K.Rool thread and take ownership of the Simon Belmont thread)

Im still here because........i quite frankly have nothing better to do most of the time (other than studying and playing video games, thought that will likely change next year since i want to get a part-time job)

I mean i suppose i could speculate about future Nintendo non-Smash games (and maybe the NX) but quite franly i've been considering leaving the boards again (at least until the Next Smash game is announced), and this time for real (since it's possible that i will be busy in the future, and i don't find Smashboards that fun anymore)

Then again i wanted to leave back in December and look what happened, so im not 100% sure that i will leave again (though it's likely i'll stop posting frequently)

I never cared for competitive play honestly.

I made my Smashboards account back in 2014 to participate in the speculation scene. Back then, I was an avid supporter of Shulk and spent much of my time in his support thread, where I had some fun (#MonadoMonday) and occasionally posted my thoughts. I also have fond memories of participating in Rate Their Chances and getting to know some cool people such as Brawler610 (currently Xeno610) and BluePikmin11.

Nowadays, I spend most of my time in this thread and in the Disco Room. I used to socialize in the Link, Shulk, and Smash 4 social threads. Overall, I've enjoyed my two years spent on Smashboards.
