Thanks!Nice post! It was a great read!
And yeah, I don't think the Adventure games have aged that well either (especially SA1). But, from a personal standpoint...I love them, even with their flaws! Ever since I could get my hands on a copy of both SA1 and 2, I have loved them, even with their flaws. The fast action platforming that is central to Sonic, the interesting unique gameplay overall, the charm of it, it's just...fun...for the post part lol
From a personal enjoyment standpoint, these two games rank in some of my favorites of all time. But, if I had to give "reviewer" scores (cuz why not start some interesting conversation lol), I'd give the first game a 5/10, "average". It does a lot of things right, but it's bad aging reveals some key flaws. SA2 is better, and I'd give that one a 7/10, or "good". It still has critical flaws, but is a solid improvement from the 1st game
(my personal review scale is 10-9 is masterful, 8-7 is good, 6-5 is average-ish, 4-3 is bad, and 2-1 is dreadful).
I think they've aged, but not really to the point were it makes the game somewhat objectively worse. Just more of a product of its time.
In terms of rankings. I would give SA1 a 7.5/10 and SA2 an 8.5/10.
I think the Sonic levels in SA1 are bit better than SA2's, but SA2 is overall the better package.
